Performance wise, the 8 Plus is just as good and fast as the X. They both have Apple’s A11 chip. The 2 biggest things the X has over the 8 Plus is a better quality screen (but that’s debatable due to the notch, less screen width) and a slightly better camera. Honestly I prefer the 8 Plus screen because it’s wider and there is more useable space overall. Also, most reports say the 8 Plus has better battery life and I want that better battery life!

Great points . I really do like that Apple offered the iPhone 8 this year and not just the iPhone X. The iPhone X is very much a liked device, but I still think the price point is offputting for some, where an iPhone 8 has that comfortable form factor many are used to and it has its similarities to the X.

Precisely why I own an 8+ and not a X. The width of the 8+ display is a clear advantage to my needs. Better batter life from a larger battery and more efficient LCD are also big for me.
Touch ID is quicker, and works from any position the phone is in. Face ID being more secure is simply incorrect. :apple:

You forgot that the X is smaller than the 8+, but has the dual cameras. That's an advantage for many people like me who have always thought the plus phones were just too big to carry and use one-handed (the X is also pushing it size-wise). Of course if dual camera isn't a strong desire, then the iPhone 8 is a great option for those who want a smaller phone but may not want the X.

The display certainly is debatable, and kind of comes down to personal preference. I use an iPad Pro as well as my iPhone X every day. The OLED definitely has pop... photos and videos have an amazing amount of clarity, but in low light on the dimmest setting the OLED has some color casts that shift depending on the angle. The LCD on my iPad Pro (and on my previous iPhone 6) are also excellent displays that are more consistent throughout the brightness range and have better viewing angles in low light. I like both the OLED and LCD displays. They are both excellent and easy on the eyes. However some people complain about eye strain and headaches using OLED displays.

Bingo! I came from a 6 and never had a plus phone before...so the 8 Plus is an awesome upgrade! I will let the X develop and improve for a couple more years...

What you boys are seriously missing is swiping to switch apps. You can never go back to using a home button once you get used to swiping. It's so fast!

Are you being sarcastic lol? That’s the only thing I’m missing...big deal right now. I’d much perfer a phone with a wider screen and longer battery life. Just my preference. The 8 Plus is blazing fast.

Which is faster when you wanna switch to the previous app? Double tapping the home button, waiting for the multitasking menu to load, scrolling to the right to select the previous app and tapping on it, OR swiping across the bottom of the screen to the right to instantly switch?

It’s a couple second difference...not that big of a deal honestly.

It's easier man. I really wish they brought that to the 8. I'm not entirely happy with my X. But this is one of the reasons I'm holding onto it. Now if only the battery life is as good as the 8 Plus

Actually it is a big deal and make the whole experience different.

I have had every iPhone model, and a few other options in between.

most recently
iPhone 7 plus switched to Samsung s8 plus, and picked up a note 8.
Now I am back at apple., with the iPhone X. I am not super sold on the phone.
It is far slower
- face to unlock requires a b.s swipe up
- no apple wireless charger
-to many delays
but this is a great start into the proper direction.

granted with both my droids I can pick up the phone and it unlocks with face ID instantly.
but build quality, and the extra crap sucks.

The iPhone 8/8+ is a glorified 7/7+, not worth the money. If I was in the boat to upgrade from 7-8. I would just keep my freaking 7. But the X is a huge jump for apple.

but anyway what do I know., I just try everything possible.

You know 3D Touch to switch to previous app still works on the non X models.

Yeah but it's not seamless like swiping from bottom of the screen. With 3D touch you gotta press and wait till it pops up.

I use it everyday. You don’t really need to wait. Guess it depends on expectations.

The X, right now, is the greatest iPhone ever made. It needs no time to "develop" or "improve".

Hey, if you're good with your 8 Plus that's cool, but don't make assumptions about a phone you know nothing about and have no experience with.

Just curious, if the hardware was the same but the prices were reversed, which iPhone would you have bought? The better X or the more expensive 8?

It’s a first gen product...there is always something that can be developed or improved more to make it better! Apparently the screen could be better with the amount of people complaining about eye strain or burn-in.

Considering the iPhone “plus“ series has been around for the better part of five years, has been more expensive, and I have never owned one, that should answer your question. I don’t like phones that are the size of a ping-pong paddle.

It’s not about the money, it’s about the technology and the best technology just costs more.

Nope. It’s a great phone. Eye strain? Burn in? Fake news.

I was very worried about eye strain before buying my X. Because I have sensitive eyes. I looked it up extensively. After using my X, I felt nothing. No eye strain at all. I think it only applies to small group of people.

Yeahhhh, I am sure some people said the same thing about the 6 Plus as well. I fell into that trap. There will be “improvements”, software and hardware that will be worth waiting for outside of the usual yearly advancements.

I don’t think the X is waste of money, I might still get one to compliment my 8+ and other iPhones even though I am far from impressed with OLED screens in general. But I also know this is still an early adopter device that justifies people feeling this isn’t the best iphone on the market. It is a pioneer device. That is what you are paying premium dollar for. Not the best iPhone on the market. You are paying for the future, warts and all at this point in time. I am cool with being a pioneer if I get an X but I wouldn’t consider it the best iPhone on the market. Not yet.

Ridiculous. I have owned every iPhone since 2007 and the iPhone X is not an “early adopter pioneer” device.

Take an iPhone 8. Add facial recognition. Add better camera lenses. Add better speakers. Add a sharper full screen. Boom. You have an iPhone X.

You decided to spend less money. That’s cool. No need to make up a phony narrative and put down the iPhone X to support your decision. People who own a BMW 3 Series don’t slander the 7 Series just because it’s better. They just enjoy their little 3 Series.

I was a bit concerned about it because sometimes I get screen fatigue with my desktop LCD displays at work. Look at any screen long enough and it will start to bother you if you don’t take a break, but clearly some people are more sensitive to certain frequencies than others and can have problems after only minutes. Fortunately I have had no issues. If anything I have found the iPhone X to be quite easy on the eyes.

Maybe with the 8, but the 8 Plus has slightly better speakers than the X, in my opinion. I've owned them both.

I agree. The Plus model of the iPhone actually appears to be louder anecdotally, but for those who don't know, Apple actually increased the stereo speakers on the iPhone 8 by 25% over the iPhone 7. But the stereo speakers was a brilliant feature upgraded on iPhone 7 when it was introduced, especially for phone calls and/or those who play videos/music from their phone.

The 8 Plus has better speaker, battery battery life and a wider display so depending what kind of display real-estate you want, it may be the better phone. The X only has a slightly better camera and all the same internals as the 8 Plus...stop being a Fanboy.
