That’s funny as you also claimed to have kept an iPhone 6 for three years missing the 6S and 7. You need to start writing your tall stories down so you can remember what you’ve said.

I have a wife and 3 children with iPhones. My 2 sons had 6S’s and my daughter owns a 7 currently.

I am many things. A liar, as you imply, is not one of them.
[doublepost=1518270348][/doublepost]
The 8 Plus has better speaker, battery battery life and a wider display so depending what kind of display real-estate you want, it may be the better phone. The X only has a slightly better camera and all the same internals as the 8 Plus...stop being a Fanboy.

I do not consider the Plus as something different than the Standard version of the series it represents other than it is gigantic and more like a tablet than a phone.

All friends and co-workers in my social circles that had a Plus got rid of them due to their unusual and uncomfortable form factors. The Plus is likely to be discontinued.

Likely to be discontinued in your circle you mean?! I know a lot of people who own and love their plus phones. In fact they passed on the X for being too small.

No, I think discontinued period.

The extra width isn't necessary and just makes the device needlessly huge. The X has more screen real estate than the Plus and laid out properly where people need it the most- in height, not width.

Now that the X is an established, runaway success it makes the Plus obsolete. Forehead, chin, too wide to fit in a pocket, too short to effectively scroll through content, it's a dinosaur.

Screen real estate definitely is not more on the X, we’ve been through this discussion on the forum in multiple threads. The look is a personal preference. The 8 & the 8 Plus has sold way too many to call it off from the market. It simply doesn’t make any business sense. Apple has to cater for various price range. So they’ll definitely stay around for a few years.

Also, don’t think the X is a runaway success just because you and a few others you know, have one. There’s a reason why the 8 and 8 Plus outsold the X & also other cheaper models are still being sold officially by Apple. If any company knows what makes the numbers, that’s Apple.

The screen of the X is larger than the screen of the 8 Plus. When we X people are browsing on our phones we have extra vertical height and can see more content with less scrolling. When we X people want more horizontal real estate we turn the phone into landscape at which point the X is exceptionally wider than the Plus is long.

The X is a runaway success because at its lofty $1,200 pricepoint it has been Apple's best selling iPhone every week since it was launched. Cheaper models are just fine, Apple should take care of the little people too, I have no qualms with that. All I'm saying is that the Plus is going away pretty quickly. There is no need for a bigger X as it has more screen real estate than the Plus already. There is no need for a smaller X because it fits in a pocket already. Apple will keep the SE, keep the 8, keep the X. Nothing more. That's the line.

The Plus is a dinosaur.

And yet that’s exactly why Apple is going to be releasing a Plus sized X later this year...your argument is invalid. The X is a first gen product...period! It is not perfect and needs improvements. The 8 Plus has been refined for 4 years now and to some people is the better phone. I’d much rather have an iPhone with a wider screen (aka more screen real-estate) and much bettery battery life than an edge to edge screen that content gets cut out from due to the notch.

No you can't. The screen itself is skinnier, and shows less because you can fit more in the width of the 8 plus than the X. I've owned both and that is the biggest complaint I have is the screen size. I have to scroll more on the X than I did on the 8 plus.

And the iPhone 8 has been outselling the X. http://appleinsider.com/articles/18...-apples-holiday-quarter-consumer-survey-finds

that “we X people” did make me chuckle as well.

you know you’re the ray of light. Since you’ve mentioned that I just read his posts all over again.

Thanks for providing the link I couldn’t be bothered to search to post within my post.

After reading through his comments, I wonder if @boltjames really is married with 2 kids who are old enough to have 6S devices. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I could choose the X or the 8+, I chose the 8+ and my reasons is me you can choose the X and it's your choose.
for me and it my personal opinion you can agree or not.
I didn't like the X for few reasons,
price
features that i dont use or like
notch is absolutely no no for me
size
not all the APPs are running yet with the X

I will consider it open mined next version

I stuck chose to go with the 8 Plus and give the X another year based on what I've read. That being said, I don't feel I'm in a position to make an objective call on it without having at least tried the X.

When we X people.....

Apple should take care of the little people too, I have no qualms with that.
I actually agree with you that the size of the Plus is too big for a lot of people, but it has a healthy market. The iPhone 8 is currently outselling the X as reports are confirming so it’s the X market that is for the minority at present.

It’s your comments that I quoted above that don’t do you any favours. I’ve never encountered anybody quite like you where condescending, belittling comments amongst constant boasting seems appropriate to you? This is why everybody here thinks your account is a parody and everything you claim is fantasy. If I hadn’t encountered you before in the BMW community a few years ago I would think you are trying to wind people up.

The X has a bigger screen than the Plus. That is a fact. It’s longer, so less scrolling as it shows more vertical content.

The X has been the best selling iPhone each week since it’s launch. That is a fact per Apple press releases.

I was very good at geometry and reading comprehension in school, you aren’t going to win an argument as binary as this.

All iPhone owners are not the same. The days of subsidized $0 iPhones are now over and we each pay full price.

Just like you travel with first class flyers, share roads with BMW drivers, and shake hands with Rolex wearers, there are those who can afford these luxuries and those who can’t.

That’s not a bad thing. That’s a good thing. It’s capitalism at its finest. I understand why this is shocking to some, why they can’t understand the cultural sea-change. Few years ago we were all the same, rich guy, poor guy, all with brand new $0 iPhone 5’s paid for by our carriers. Those days are over. Now it’s first class and coach. Same aircraft, very different passengers.

share roads with BMW drivers,
I had to laugh at this. BMWs don’t have the same status in Europe than they do in the US as they are among the most common cars on the road. They just give you a license for other drivers not to give way to you as they assume you’re a cocky salesman. That’s why I got rid of mine.

The rest of your post is delusional elitist tosh in the politest possible way.

As the title states, looking for opinions on why 8+ is a better device than the X.
I don’t know about better as a device but maybe a better option over the X? Price, no learning curve coming from any other previous iPhone, more case options... that’s about all I can think of.

I wish our carriers used to give iPhones out free or heavily subsidised. That must have been an American thing. They’ve always cost full price here even on contract. The handset cost has always been covered.

Time to put him on the ignore list?

I honestly don't know if you are joking or delusional. Trying to have any sort of debate with you is like trying to catch air with a net.

Not joking, not delusional either. I am stating three facts which you can either discuss or not, doesn't matter to me.

Fact 1. iPhone X is the best-selling iPhone every week since its launch. Source: Apple press release.

Fact 2. iPhone X screen is larger than the Plus screen. Source: Geometry.

Fact 3. iPhone has multiple pricepoints to address low/middle/high income customers. Source: Consumerism.

You struggle with concepts outside of your small UK market in the same way I never understood why Buick is considered a prestigious brand in Shanghai. BMW's have a ton of status in America even if they are used as taxi's in Germany, doesn't matter here.

There is nothing delusional about economics in a capitalistic society. First Class, Business Class, Economy Class. Has existed in the airline industry for 70 years. It's now come to iPhone. SE, 7, 8, X. Choose your level of luxury, pick the price you are comfortable with, and if by choice you must walk past the First Class passengers to get to your seat in the back of the plane, hide your feelings and don't judge others by what they can afford. In a capitalistic society, this is not an unexpected consequence.

As I said debating with you is pointless, generally when you quote someone you are making reference to what they have written, I haven't argued against any of the points you present above.

I would debate that most X's are bought by relatively low income earners on a contract as they believe it is a status symbol. Ironically you also seem to buy into this, this leads me to believe you are not the baller you are making your self out to be.

Please don't try to lecture me on consumerism or any other aspect of business as judging by what you have written previously on the subject in other threads you are utterly clueless and fail to grasp very basic principles on the subjects.

Your country’s market doesn’t really mean anything to me either on the surface of things. The funny thing being both the UK and US markets have an impact on each other regardless of that.

Plenty of people own iPhone X’s and BMWs on finance deals that they can’t really afford. Status is a very shallow term. As for assuming people’s income based on what iPhone they have? Well, that’s even more stupid and unreliable. Plenty of users here could afford an X but snubbed it. Never assume based on your own false status symbols.

So when I argue the points you have presented you tell me you agree with them all. Okay.

And then you bring a new facet to the argument about people buying on credit. What?

And then you personally attack me, calling me 'clueless' and a liar. You owe me an apology.

How someone decides to pay for an item is immaterial to the discussion. Does the iPhone X produce more sales than the iPhone 8? Yes. Do people pay a lot more for their iPhone's than they do the family pet because the iPhone is more important to them? Yes.

As for arguing the tenets of status symbology, there is no argument. Some embrace status symbols and enjoy the trappings of their wealth, some eschew status symbols as shallow, and some can't afford status symbols so they don't understand them at all. What cannot be denied is that when one person in the room has a used $29 iPhone 5 bought on Craigslist and the other walks in with this brand new $1,200 iPhone X bought from an Apple Store, people make assumptions about the success of one individual over another. I didn't create these perceptions. I don't make these rules. But they do exist.

In my opinion the iPhone 8+ is not necessarily “better” than the X and visa versa. “Better” is personal preference. The X has a few more features but does that equal better? Not IMO, a feature is great but if you don’t use it then it’s useless to the user.
