I think for people who like a dark UI going back to a "more balanced" UI would be a bad compromise. The people I know who use dark mode (not many) do that because they like it dark. Mountain Lion was not dark it was more colourful. I actually think that the macOS UI is in a good state right now. Apple brought back more shadows to the "flat" design. For me the bright UI with almost no dividing lines and nuanced use of shadows feels very light and clear.

I get your point. But doesn't the mere existence of a dark mode imply that the current design could be too bright and tiring for the eyes? No one asked for dark mode in Mountain Lion for example.

Also as I mentioned some UI elements became non-transparent and obstruct everything else. For example, increasing brightness will obstruct the text or movie you are watching. But it wasn't an issue in Mountain Lion.

  • Fix the annoying bug where the App Store resets the "allow in-app ratings and reviews" back to checked. I uncheck it on every device and somehow a week later it reappears as checked. It annoys me when apps ask for reviews. If I wanted to review an app, I should choose to do so on my own instead of having constant pop-ups. I will say a Hail Mary if this is the only bug fixed in macOS 13 and no other features or bugs are addressed. Yes, it is that annoying.

Yeah what's up with that?

Also would be great if Apple could post guided tours for new macOS versions. They are very helpful for those who just bought a Mac or switched from Windows.

"Check out how the drop shadow of the active window really makes it pop out of the screen, so at a glance you can instantly find the active window."

If only these sorts of features still existed!

? No need to get angry. I just felt that your statement was inconsistent with your actions, because you always try to give a reality check to the wishes people express here, even though that's not really the point.
not really angry (just mildly annoyed). and i am always consisitent (or, consistently difficult).

i have my own wish list for apple, and have pitched things on the beta feedback form, in the apple store, and twice when i had apple support help me out. and one thing i asked for for YEARS made it to the iphone. so... who knows?

Overhauled Music app, so it is less like an awkward internet browser. Better search functions, so that after browsing the Store I don't have to click "back" fifty times to be able to search my own library.

I love the more muted, subtle color scheme of Mountain Lion compared with the bright, saturated Playskool look of Monterey. Just my personal preference.

Ability to sign into multiple iCloud accounts. I have one for work and one for personal use. Would be nice to use Messages with both accounts so I can respond to messages on my computer instead of needing to use my work phone.
You can already sign into multiple iCloud account, albeit not for messages. If you go to System Preferences -> Internet accounts, you can sign into additional iCloud accounts as secondary accounts, which support Contacts, Calendar, Mail, Reminders, and Notes.

Real features. Haven't seen them for many years already.
Yup agreed, all the new **** is stuff I just turn off. Everything else are what I call marketing features. Eye candy which catch people's attention, but don't really do much. Like do people really use Siri to do stuff?? Seems like a waste of time or just entertainment. ?‍♂️

The ability to completely remove Safari and do a reinstall.

No Where can I find a way of re installing safari when it gets corrupt and unusable. The only way is to reinstall Macos

And this is unacceptable in the corporate I GOTTA GET TO WORK times.

And Safari SUCKS and has been corrupted on me many times. Thru Hackers. Who knows.

Currently I have a Webkit domain 300 error that happens sometimes and often on 12.3 production.

Absolutely nothing. Please do a “snow leopard” release and just fix/optimize everything ???
Maybe we could see something like this when they can finally get rid of supporting Intel code and have a AS Mx only version.

What’s wrong with dragging them to trash?

Well, it doesn’t do anything.
Same with cmd + delete.
I’m pretty sure there used to be a message saying something along the lines of “can’t delete system apps” but now it just doesn’t do anything.

It's now two weeks since Monterey 12.3 came out and no beta for the supposedly next version have been released. Maybe Apple have shifted focus to macOS 13?

Two things:
...
Photos need to add robust editing tools. If Apple can eventually get to the level of Photoshop, that would be nice but add some features that the pixel already has, such as removing the background or removing a defect in the photo, etc.
...
While Apple's Aperture app wasn't the greatest in terms of features, it was still an image editing app and I miss some of its features that were never incorporated into Photos. Because of this I returned to GIMP as my photo editor (personally, I'm not a professional photographer and don't require the full feature set of Photoshop, so GIMP satisfies my requirements and is also available under Linux).

I, too, have pitched what I believed were simple improvements (not just bug fixes) on the beta feedback, but I've never had any acknowledgement or seen any adoption -- so I'm impressed that you have!

I'm also getting a little annoyed with Apple's canned Feedback Assistant replies that ask for a full description (check), sysdiagnose (check), latest beta builds (check), screenshot (check), and screen recording (check) on my iPad (not employed) and Mac (check). Through the five betas and one RC for 12.3, I sent Apple a number of Universal Control bug reports that already included everything that they then later ask for in their canned replies -- and the canned replies sometimes coming over 2 months after my bug report. [If it is actually taking over 2 months for Apple to get to these bug reports, then either they released very buggy alpha software that should never have been called beta nor released as beta, or they really need to up their staff handling bug reports -- I mean, why release 12.3 when you have not yet addressed a bug report made under Beta 1?]

I just want font rendering to be fixed on non-Retina displays. I know it'll never happen because that's not Apple's focus, but I'd like to even get something as simple as proper sub pixel antialiasing back. Not to mention that some letters are currently rendered with a weird white dot on top. The capital letters B and P in the menubar for example.

For real new features I'd like the folder colour to change together with whatever accent colour you choose instead of staying blue. I also wouldn't mind a real live wallpaper to be added similar to Wallpaper Engine. Would be a little bit more resource intensive but really nice to look at :)

I’d like to see more bug fixes than new bugs ?

In all honesty I will probably avoid the next macOS for as long as humanly possible. No telling what they’ll break next.

I would like to see fixed UI of notifications.

The "close" button is too small. All other options also require an additional click.

It makes sense to make "close" button bigger and most popular options available right away. Like it has always been.

It was also possible to swipe them away with two fingers up until Big Sur. It was very convenient.

I'm not sure who thought having to go back so many times was a good idea but they should be fired or moved to where they are not making any decisions. It seems to me that they always try to fix what they do not need to fix and leave what is broken unfixed.

this could be said (and has been said) during the release of every OS, ever. every OS has bugs, other specific issues for some; changes some people think is better, that others think makes things worse.

there's no perfect moment, where everything 'just works' and every single user is happy.

Yes I’m aware. My point is that each new release seemingly now has more bugs than it has fixes. The quality of their software is headed down the toilet. There’s little doubt about it except maybe in the eyes of their most ardent fans for whom Apple can do no wrong.
