To keep it? Nothing... I didn't buy the new iPad for what some online think might eventually happen, I bought it because I wanted it.
? this is the right answer.

That said, if lots of people had ordered an M1 Pro 5 days before WWDC, with the intention of sending it back or cancelling if nothing revolutionary is announced, that would've been a great way to send a message to Cupertino about what people want from the iPad...

I agree with others. You shouldn’t have bought the new iPad if you didn’t like what it already does today.

It would have been more efficient to wait until WWDC to see what was announced before making the purchase.

I almost bought into the hype because of the M1 announcement. Then I tempered myself a bit as I realized that there’s so much performance left on the table and my 2020 iPad is already great at everything I currently use it for today. Even if Apple makes some unexpected announcements at WWDC, I’m to the point that I would rather suffer (?) with my current iPad for at least another year and watch how it all plays out for M1 iPad owners and for owners of older models. Then maybe get a 2022 model that will likely get a spec bump.

I'd like to argue that it's not so much Apple but the developers. What I need is for developers to add desktop-like features to their mobile apps. Apple, in my opinion, has given them most of what developers need by providing the hardware but now it's up to the software engineers to take advantage of it all.
Apple has an iron grip on what developers can do.

Many of the functions that would be part of the base services in an operating system require developers to write code to support that functionality. Multi-window support is a good example. That is Apple passing-the-buck in a sense to the developers. So for those things, yes, that's on the developers.

...but there are many features that are limited or lacking under iOS. There are times that innovative developers create workarounds to get past those limits that were unintended by Apple. Apple then dings them for "unauthorized" use of a particular function.

It's all on Apple.

What message would that be though?

I don’t think there’s any universal consensus for what would be considered revolutionary.

I don’t expect anything revolutionary.. I think we’ll see improvements across the board and Pro apps to take advantage of the M1..

I’d like to see a MUCH better file management system. I’d like for this to replace my Laptop and so far it’s doing a very good job at that, just not a great job. I’ve bumped into a few file management issues that have caused me some headaches. Also, I had an issue where I tried to export my keychain passwords (easily done on a Laptop) and no dice on the iPad…

Overall I am happy with it as is and anything they announce will just add to my experience and enjoyment of it.. But it really needs a better file management system so I hope they improve on it.

Someone asked in a different thread “Why didn’t Apple just wait until WWDC to announce the new iPad?”

Why? Because they knew they’d sell a boatload of them on hope.

And if they announce something great, they’ll sell even more.

Apple is a business, like no other. They care about its customers, but they care about its shareholders even more.

I have a 2018 12.9 iPP, but this is what I’d like to see in iPad OS 15

- multiple window support
- x, -, + options to close, minimize, and full view apps. (This would be quicker than finger gestures with a mouse/even your actual finger)
- updated control center on top right (does it really need to blur the rest of the screen? I mean, this was the same reasoning with Siri taking up the whole screen)
- in a nut shell, I want some kind of Samsung Dex ”like” change. I’m not asking for exactly that, just something in that direction.

I would consider upgrading if they did this. But I’d wanna see how it runs on my 2018 iPP. Buuuuuut.....if they released a 15” iPP with 240hertz screen then I’d be all over that.

I think @LogicalApex came up with a good point. Being that announcing the new iPad before WWDC will contribute in getting it in the hands of developers much earlier in order to develop for the M1 chip.

Funny. It's the return window. It's like in hours or something isn't it, for the first orders?

The original post is rather biased, maybe even disingenuous, and I can’t imagine there are that many who are planning on returning their iPad Pros based on what news is announced at WWDC.

solve the rewrite issue. that would be nice. kernel task averaging about 100gb a week and I am doing nothing warranting that; I read, research, and write- no games, no editing.

Apple doesn’t randomly decide to put extra ram in anything - especially the iPad. So it makes one pause when for the first time they tell us what it has AND give two levels that are both on the high side.

historically this move means something is coming - I 100% get the “waiting till wWDW and see if there are Any insights to the logic.

I keep my hardware a long time when compared to most. I need it to last 3-5 years, and if it does it with fewer glitches than I have now

Yup, better to get them ready sooner than later. Should be a memorable WWDC.

pro apps that can utilize the 16GB ram
I don’t think we will be seeing Mac apps coming to iPad Pro this year. There has to be more iPads with m1 chips before that happen. Maybe next year or a few years time but I don’t think the iPad market is mature enough for Mac apps to arrive in iPad just yet.

What’s ironic about the whole thing is that I had made up my mind all along that it was time to replace my 10.5 “ iPad Pro from 2017, and went with the 12.9” 512 GB WiFi, and until I joined the forums a month or so ago in early May, hadn’t even heard of WWDC. It was only after I had joined that I learned about WWDC, since it was mentioned by so many, and was the “big, upcoming, event”.

I have no intention of returning mine at all, and it’s a huge update from the 10.5”, 2017 model.

Of course I will be interested in what is revealed at WWDC anyway.

Alright, who is getting all packed up?

A few things I got I was looking for. Still does not seem like enough change in how I would use it, so I am looking to return the 1 TB in a day or so for a 256 GB.

Still keeping mine unless I see a great deal on Best Buy open-box for the same exact model/config (12.9 1TB 5G). :p

I'm actually looking forward to trying the new multitasking in iPadOS 15 beta on this.

Downloading the beta at this very moment.. seeing how well it performs on the M1. Granted, it’s beta.. but wanna check out the new multitasking features.

But tbh, only thing I’m excited for is the new features in Safari.

I think having the App Library on dock should fix my main gripe with multitasking.

Yep, looking forward to Safari tab groups and extensions as well. I'll need to use it on my dummy iCloud account though. Maybe run the beta on both the iPad 7th gen and M1 Pro so I can test Continuity without messing up my main account.
