Caldigit USB3/eSata card. Currently, drivers disabled for USB since I was getting occasional panics, do not know if it is from the drivers or the card.
ORICO PFU3-4P 4 (which gives me USB3 with builtin mountain lion drivers).

From top to bottom:

1) Apple RAID card (2010 model)
2) Sonnet Tempo SATA Pro 6Gb 4-Port PCIe Card
3) Magma PCI-e 16x HBA
4) ATI 5870 GPU (stock Apple unit)

When I read that KB page and the accompanying graphic, it seems that Slot 1 is on the bottom. Am I reading that correctly?

Slot (4) |_____|
Slot (3) |_____|
Slot (2) |_____|
Slot (1) |_____|

And that only Slots 1 & 2 are x16 whereas Slots 3 & 4 are x4 ?

^^^^Yes you are. and you are correct on the number of lanes for 2008 (3,1) and above. The only difference being on 3,1 machines slots 3 & 4 are PCIe version 1.0 and slots 1 & 2 are PCIe version 2.0. On 4,1 and above all slots are PCIe version 2.0.

I tried to replace my Orico USB 3 card with a one port USB 3 card that did not require additional power but, even though it is based on a Fresco Logic FL1000 card, it didn't work. I guess OS X only likes the FL1100.

No problems with eSATA Hydra Super-S LCM RAID and and a Orico 6518US3 USB Docking Station on CalDigit

is this thread supposed to be representative of all the "we need pci slots in the new mac" talk?

(air,air,air,5770)
I didn't read any mystery or conspiracy into the original post, but I can see how it could offend someone sensitive to the subject of PCIe slots, and whom also has an axe to grind. Apple is giving you a slotless Mac Pro soon, so stop hating and start celebrating! :p
I thought it would be fun to see what you guys have in your PCI-e slots...

4 - empty, but slot is used for passing mini-SAS cables out the back
3 - FASTA-6GU3 2x eSATA 2x USB3 card
2 - Areca 1880ix-12
1 - 5870 or GTX 285 (probably replaced soon with a 570 or K6000)
