is this thread supposed to be representative of all the "we need pci slots in the new mac" talk?

No. That wasn't the intention at all and I'm glad it has stayed clear of that debate.
what debate?
this thread pretty much kills that debate.
3. suggestions?
4. suggestions?
I have found USB 3 to be very handy.
I (and many others here) use the Orico USB 3 cards. They rely on the built-in drivers found in OS X 10.8.2 and above.
What would be good and cheap usb3 card what works in mac pro perfectly?
That is the brand, but I use the 4 port model. This is exactly the one I purchased.
I don't think the one you found will work because it does not use the Fresco Logic controller chip which is what is needed for the OS X built-in driver.
if anyone who has recently posted on this thread has any fan monitoring software i would like to know what your expansion fan rpm is like with your expansions?
1) ATI 5870
2) Empty
3) RS-232 Comm Port
4) RockeU USB 3.0 Raid
is this on your 5.1 hex?I used to use SMC fan control to keep my PCIe bay at 1300 minimum. I actually added a 120mm fan inside the PCIe bay for more flow. I built an external fan controller for the 120 and keep it at 1100RPM unless I'm gaming, then I crank it to 1800RPM..
