I finished the short 6 episode Season 1 of Frontier* on Netflix. It was ok, but was a bit clumsy, and convenient plot development, not interesting enough to keep me going.

* Warring factions vie for control of the 1700s Canadian fur trade in a ruthless game of wealth and power.

Whoops. No. I intended on making a list of cult shows but ended up listing comedy shows while thinking of Breaking Bad.

There was quite a bit of [very black] comedy in BB, clearly written with that intent (even if in the end we'd probably agree it's really a neo western crime drama fantasy ... or some such s***) :D

I'll take your word for it. I was bored each time I tried the show out. Probably fell asleep at least once. I usually like Cranston's work, particularly in Saving Private Ryan The Infiltrator.

Goes off to find caffeinated drink.

Been going back and forth with our usual TV viewing and Altered Carbon. One new one that's popped up is the super hero-centric "Black Lightning" on the CW. This is a really enjoyable show and is very well done. Not a part of the Arrowverse, as are their other comics based shows.

I’m planning on checking out Altered Carbon (and anxiously anticipating Lost in Space), but in the meantime I’m running through the entire series of Ellery Queen, the 1975 whodunit from the creators of Columbo. Extremely fun (especially when Ellery breaks the fourth wall to ask you ask you if you’ve figured it out yet), and it’s a shame this only lasted one season

I saw Altered Carbon displayed on Netflix (now on my list to watch) when I watched episode 1 of Marvel’s The Defenders. So far so good on the latter. :)

To watch this you first have to see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher for good measure. :D It’s fun to see all of them and their co-characters together in a single story.

Julius Carsar revealed.

Fascinating history of how he rose to power.
Personally I think Mary Beard belongs on CBBC.

When she first appeared years ago she was… interesting.

Now it is just a lot of pre-chewed pap fed to the TV masses.

And FFS. Tweeting Veni Vidi Vici to Trump?
Why?

BBC History jumps the shark…

Watched season 9 (the first episode) of Curb your Enthusiasm the other day, haven't laughed that hard in a while (the first few seasons were some of the best comedy) but I checked out around season 4.

Altered Carbon is decent (just on episode 2) but a bit slow so far.

The Chi (on Showtime) is the one show I will follow each week, otherwise just bouncing back and fourth from older shows I haven't seen before.

Blue Planet II on BBC America. I’m surprised I’ve gotten away from Nature Shows, that I religiously watched in the 1990s. Nature on PBS was one of my favorites.

Instead of playing games on my computer, caught several episodes of Blue Planet tonight.. It still fills me with awe, this Planet we live on, so full of life and simultaneously saddened by how cavalier and negligent we are about being in the position were we could be worthy stewards, but instead we mostly view the environment as a commodity to be consumed for profit and our benefit, not realizing it’s our home we are gorging on and degrading. And then, this pops into my head:

Hopefully we figure this out before we get the better of ourselves. :(

That was an excellent show; until you mentioned it in your post, I must admit I had completely forgotten it.

Saw the first episode of Altered Carbon last night. Visually well done, interesting concept...but the characters are rather bland. The only moment I really felt invested in the episode was that poor kid who was re-sleeved as a decrepit woman.

Started Episode 1 of McMafia, a UK based drama about RUSSIAN criminals which aired on the BBC in January, now on AMC. Stars James Norton from Grantchester, a show that aired in The States on PBS Masterpiece Mystery. So far, so good!
