Currently watching the first series of Gavin & Stacey.

I'd had given this 2 or 3 shots before, but didn't like it and decided to give it another chance and I'm totally getting a kick out of it now.

SHERLOCK!!

It's back on air! Woohoo!

NBC's Dracula returns tonight. I hope it'll be a good episode.

Also need to catch up on Arrow and maybe The Following (hate the Followers, but enjoy Kevin and James performances.)

It's sitting there on my DVR waiting to be seen.

Downton Abbey- 2 Hr season premier was tonight and still in the grove! :D

I like last week's Dracula episode. Hopefully, this Friday's episode will be better. With another three episodes left they need to pick up the pace a bit.

I'm lukewarm on the Dracula series. My wife and I almost threw in the towel halfway through the series. We'll see what develops.

Is there any excuse for Star Trek Next Generation to look like crap on broadcast TV, specifically BBC America?? Hasn't this series been remastered?

The DVD series was a scam, it sucked, someone copied it over from VHS, no where near what DVD standards should be. I assume Blue Ray means "remastered". And Holy Crap, they want $85 for just one Season on BluRay?? You can buy the complete series on Amazon for $179, (they want $425 retail). Wow... I could see myself springing for the complete set if it is truly remastered. :(:)

Edit: The complete compilation on Amazon is for the DVD set. The Blu Ray versions season by season are still being released. :-\

It isn't any better on Netflix either, sadly. :(

I just checked ebay, there are piles and piles of complete DVD sets going for about $100 or should I say being attempted to be sold. If anyone out there is thinking about it, you be much better served going with the blu-ray version (I assume remastered) and spending the extra $80. This is a case where you get what you pay for.

Update:
The complete STNG series I saw advertised on Amazon for $178 is the DVD version. Do not buy this for a large wide screen TV. You'll be disappointed in picture quality. The complete BluRay series has not been released as a compilation. The first 4 seasons have been released in BluRay for about $50 each. :-\

Where to find Hulu plus good deal ?

I've got it on my Roku and I believe it's also on Apple TV. I'm not signed up to it though but do have streamable Netfliks and I also have Amazon Prime which offers movies, not to mention my local cable company, but Amazon movies are about $1 less expensive then cable.

Did anyone watch Hostages? The season/series finale was a couple days ago, and while it wrapped everything up, frankly I'm glad it's over. The acting was so-so, and the story lost a lot of steam after the first couple episodes.

I also caught the premiere of Intelligence on CBS last night. I'm not entirely sure if I like it, but its interesting. I'll give it another week or two and see if I like it better.

Any thoughts on Banshee? I've got it queued, but I'm hesitant to start it since I heard it being compared to True Blood, which I personally don't enjoy.

I've seen none of these. Just curious what turns you off about TB? I don't care for it because it deviates too much from the books in many ways, theme and plot-wise, including being much more gay-centric*. Not that "gay" equates to bad, it's just that the producer has seen fit to introduce much more of this type of material (in your face) than ever appeared in the books which I love.

* I figure someone will take offense at this comment, but none is intended.

I don't have any specific faults with True Blood, but I just couldn't get into it. But in general, it seems like every show now is trying to push the boundaries of sex and/or violence and how far they can go and how crazy they can be, and it seems overdone, and often uninspired. I've heard that the TB novels are fantastic however.

I also watched the first episode of Sherlock season 3. It hasn't aired in the US yet, so I'll avoid any spoilers. The show's extremely long hiatus unfairly raised my expectations, so I was slightly letdown by the storyline, but overall, it still delivered. :)

Overall as a series the Southern Vampire Mystery books featuring Sookie Stackhouse are a pleasure to read, but near the end, the author's interest in the story seemed to flag resulting in very short books, that stuggled to be significant, although the series ended well.

Sherlock is excellent, sometimes the stories are innovative twists on the original, such as The Hound of the Baskervilles episode, however they can seem all over the place and might not appeal to everyone. They have exaggerated Sherlock's personality in an annoying fashion. Basil's Sherlock had more empathy for the human race than Benedict's does. I admit to nodding off in the middle of them now and then. ;)

Ah, great, I hope that you enjoy it. I keep forgetting that 'Downton Abbey' is broadcast several months later in the US.

At the moment, I am working abroad, and have managed to miss a little over half of each series since Series One (which, by a lucky freak of timing, I was able to catch in its entirety, as I was home at the time).

Kind colleagues have dropped the complete DVD of the first three series' of Downton into my room. However, while I did catch the last three episodes of Downton (Series Four) - I had cunningly arranged a period of leave to include three Sundays - I missed the first five episodes. So, in a way, I envy you....

Great advice, and thank you for it. I always loved TNG - clever, idealistic, intelligent TV, which told a terrific tale over seven years without either patronising its audience or taking itself too seriously. A terrific TV series. And yes, I blush to admit that I would be in the market for a very good edition of the series....

K'Ehleyr was great; a wonderful addition to the series, and Worf's true equal and match in every way. I would have loved to have seen more of her - a clever Klingon diplomat, with intelligence, wit, self-deprecation, courage, character and chutzpah; a real loss to the Klingon world, in my view.....

Mind you, I loved all of the episodes where internal Klingon politics played out; terrific and compelling stories.

DVR/Tivo is the answer! :):)

Is there anyone out there with the BluRay STNG set who can confirm it is wonderful? :p This Wikia Link says it has been remastered:

Star Trek: The Next Generation was remastered from the original camera negatives for release on Blu-ray, beginning in 2012 with a "sampler disc" of three episodes. Complete season sets were later released - beginning with the first season in July 2012 - at a planned schedule of two season releases per year through 2015.

Klingon cultural intrigue is outstanding. I just watched the episode where Worf and his brother deal with their father's legacy of being a traitor... :)

I really tried to get into Hostages, but failed. I watched the first 6-7 episodes and lost interest. I thought Banshee was great though, I really enjoyed the story!

Did anyone catch Helix Friday night on SciFi Channel? It just started on Jan 10th. I let it slip by but I see it's available On Demand and online. I plan on watching it tonight.

I watched the premier of Helix last night, 90 min. It's about a contagion outbreak in a private research lab located in the Article. A CDC team is called in to contain. However things are not as they first appear to be and the real agenda of the perpetrators is unknown, but hinted at. Good enough to keep watching at this point. However from what I've seen, seems more suited to a movie or mini series, vs an ongoing show.

I'm home on a sick day today, so I just started watching season 2 of The Sopranos.

The Blacklist

I'm anxiously awaiting Game of Thrones season 4. Saw the trailer today and it looks epic!
We've started watching the Blacklist here in the last week or two and have caught up to episode 10. Its a solid entry in the crime thriller genre and gets better and better as the season progresses.

We also tried House of Cards recently but it didn't really appeal to me. Maybe i just wasn't in the mood though.

Any other takes on The Blacklist or House of Cards?
