I thought the first episode was good too!

I also watched the first episode of Sherlock on Netflix today. I'm hooked!:D

Which Sherlock Holmes? Asked my wife who watches a lot of Netflx and she said she has not seen it. Would like to give it a go... Thanks!

Anyone planning on catching Dracula on NBC, Oct 25? I do, but lots of vampire content in our entertainment channels, so I'll keep my expectations minimized. :)

Yep, my wife wants us to watch it. I'm always skeptical of new network shows, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

I had not even heard about it yet, I'll definitely check it out.

It stars the Tudies (my nickname) actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers. :)

Thanks! So far my favorite Sherlock is Basil Rathbone and Nicholas Rowe (Young Sherlock Holmes).

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will change you forever. Absolutely stellar show.

I currently am watching "The Wire" before I start "Boardwalk Empire"

Also, after 8 seasons, I still watch HIMYM, but it has become garbage.

Haha, yeah HIMYM has gotten pretty bad, but I've watched 8 seasons so I can't stop now!

Dracula

Too early for me to call. I'm not a Rhys Meyers fan, but I'll hold off on the opinion of his interpretation until I see more of the show.

Right now, Van Helsing is my favorite character.

Caught the first episode of Dracula (NBC) today. Not bad, not bad. Will continue watching. For those you have yet to watch, they have changed some relationships from the original story, and moved the setting to turn of the century N.E. U.S.A England and Meyers/Dracula poses as a U.S. Industrialist. I don't think this is a significant spoiler the way it is presented, but Van Helsing is working with ole Drac to fight a secret society.

Caught the first episode of Sherlock on Netflix. Interesting story and outstanding atmosphere for Sherlock in a modern setting. :D There is only 5 or 6 episodes to be viewed. Was this the deal where there are only 3 episodes per season? But if the show started in 2010, this would only take it up to 2011?

and Dracula episode 2

I like when Jonathan actually gets to do the bloody vampire stuff. And I appreciate that he is far more gruesome/predatory when he actually feeds.

As far as the show overall, I much prefer when Drac is doing what Drac does best, being a bloody monster (the opening moments of episode 2 were great). As for the rest of the show, I've got that deja vu from the first season of Arrow: a lot of uninteresting soap opera characters/tweaks until the title character does what he's meant to do.

I'll stick with it. The flashbacks are enough of a draw and I'm liking Rhys Meyers when he gets vampiric. Van Helsing remains a hoot.

and I watched the pilot episode of The Following. James Purefoy plays such great cads, although his serial killer is a bit more realistic than I usually watch.

I might catch up with the rest before season two starts in a couple of months. It is compelling enough despite the massive flaws (there's no way the F.B.I. and law enforcement are that stupid...)

...must be on Vlad Tepes kick

as I just watched the Da Vinci's Demons episode with their fun, whacked twist on Vlad - I do not believe he's dead.

If he was a recurring character, I'd definitely tune in, Paul Rhys was so much fun. His performance and look were ace (I'd love his red leather coat myself...), he was having such a good time and stole every scene he was in.

As for the show: it feels a lot like a comic book superhero story to me in how Leonardo "sees" solutions, how he is guided etc. This is not a bad thing.

What annoyed me and will probably keep me away is the forced use of Mature elements, just like many mature readers comics.

a pet peeve: when period characters say the f word, especially when it is specifically written to noticed rather than natural (hello Zoroaster.) The nudity also seems forced (free willies indeed :D.) I have usually no problems with nudity from all my Italian genre film adventures especially when it fits the story, but it felt so fake here.

Ah, this is a Starz series. Explains it all.

/rant off.

I guess we'll see this across the pond in the new year.

Yes, I believe that it - 'it' being Season Four of 'Downton Abbey' - is scheduled to be broadcast this coming January Stateside (on PBS). For my part, I have missed much of it, (as I am working abroad) but caught the last three episodes, as I was home briefly.

Season Four has just finished on ITV, (indeed, it finished on last Sunday night, November 10, so that is it for Season Four, apart from the 'Christmas Special' which is scheduled to be broadcast on - not surprisingly - Christmas Day itself, and which, given what happened last year on Christmas Day, cannot by definition be expected to feature bland, seasonal goodwill as a storyline), and the good news (announced on ITV and the BBC) is that a fifth season has just been commissioned.

I've given up on Sleepy Hollow.

Am sticking with Dracula and Arrow.

I abandoned Sleepy Hollow too. Based on a preview, I'm hoping that Dracula lightens up after he gets his daylight cure... so far the environment has been 100% dark and dreary.
