My wife and I just finished the 4th season of Downton Abbey and are eagerly awaiting new season 5 in January. My only complaint is there are only 9 episodes in a season.

The whole family is enjoying 24:Live Another Day.

+1 on Downton Abbey. Great show. I know I've said this before, but it reminds me of an early 1900s aristocratic version of Dynasty. Very elegant, elaborate settings, costumes, etc., but goes very well in depth with how the caste system was in the UK back at that time.

Besides, you can't go wrong when you have Dame Maggie Smith DBE (the headmistress from Sister act and Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter) in the matriarchal role.

If your wife likes that, she may also like Call the Midwife. Another good show, shortly after or nearing the end of the WW2 era.

Outside of that, and the weekly Australian Rules Football matches we get, I'm not watching anything that isn't on PBS; PBS Kids in particular. I tell all of you right now: you have not lived until you have had your son or daughter pull you out of bed, asking if you could watch an episode of Curious George or Super Why before pulling you outside to play. :p

What's on TV?

I'm also eagerly awaiting the fifth series. However, there are eight episodes in a season not nine, or did you count the Christmas Specials? If so, then yes, nine. Plus, there are only a few number of episodes in each season because each episode is an hour long. Sometimes even a bit more than an hour.

I really dislike short seasons of anything, not that the show is bad, just the short season.

Last night watched 2 episodes of House of Cards and I am not yet sold on it, but may watch another.

Also watched the first episode of Crossbones on NBC with John Malkovich. It was ok, but did not grab me.

It took me about 4-5 episodes to really get into House of Cards, and then I was hooked. I actually couldn't understand where it was going at first, but then it quickly comes together.

Thanks for the info, I'm still undecided and I also pulled the plug on Fargo. I'll comment briefly in that thread. And Crossbones? If a show does not grab me fast, how worthy can it be?

Right now I'm looking at watching The Leftovers, some rapture type subject matter and a new Halle Berry show called Extant where a astronaut comes home from a solo space mission! PREGNANT!!

I'm not sure of the dates for either of these, June or July.

Anyone here saw the Hannibal series with Mad Mikkelsen?

Indeed, I found myself completely infatuated with it. I even went through the cinematic incarnations for comparison. Maybe I'll get around to reading the novels… but, anyway, Bryan Fuller is a genius.

I started watching re-runs of The Cosby Show. What a fun time that was. I have the box set thing, it was a bit expensive on amazon, but Oh my Lord, my husband and I love it.

Here's the link, incase anyone else is interested :)

Oh, yes. Agree with you completely….

I absolutely love Downton Abbey, and make a point of watching it whenever I am home if it is being broadcast at that time. Indeed, when I am home, brothers and others know better than to dare to telephone me…..

Downton is a wonderful mix of very high production values, a terrific cast, solid scripts by someone who understands that system (Julian Fellowes) and is more than a little in thrall to the memory of it, and the narrative twists of an excellent soap opera.

Quite simply, irresistible, at its best…..

That is a great show. I have the individual seasons (a few of them) but that box set is a little expensive. It is a fun show, though. I'm glad my kids watch it.

That looks like a great box set.. A little out of price range, but maybe if it were cheaper... Oh well :) Maybe someone who is rich would buy it (for me)

Over the weekend, I started to watch Eureka. The pilot was a little bit weak, and I'm having difficulty continuing.
I liked it a lot until the first "timeline is completely changed" event. After that, it was okay, and then the ending left me cold. The crossovers with Warehouse 13 were sometimes fun, and sometimes strange. Usually I liked it when they added new characters, but I never liked the founder.

Having watched a few more episodes of season one, I feel rather disappointed... I'm not getting into it at all, and believe me, I'm trying. Amazon had a special sale on the complete series a few weeks ago, so naturally i bought one. (It was only $70.) But now what? Haha, I'll give it a few more episodes before I stop.

Any place but here or there....
Penny Dreadful is actually surprising me (Josh Harnett's gunslinger had a great episode this week), although I'm pretty much done with Eva Green's Linda Blair/Andy Serkis impersonation. I can't see how much longer they can run with the possession angle, I understand what it means to the core mythology and all, but it's already well past overkill.

Looking forward to the season finale this Sunday.

Seasons are becomingly way to short although I signed out of Penny Dreadful after brief exposure to it.

I can understand about Penny Dreadful. There are characters that bore and/or annoy me and I often look at the clock when those characters are on, but there are moments that made me want to stick it out.

Show-length: it depends on the show. For some shows, the number of episodes is perfect for others I'd like a longer season.

The Last Ship (TNT network)- Ok story with a real strong recruiting/showcase the Navy vibe, about a world wide pandemic, a U.S.Navy ship that has been on a mission in the Arctic with a doctor on board looking for a cure. I'll watch another. Some decent action...

I watched the premier episode on-demand, but think the second episode is tonight, maybe...
