Takes this FWIW, just an old man chiming in! 🤣

Just be careful, you don't want to be her dad and your new shared experiences are what you should build on.

But then again as Mr @Apple fanboy said, "When I was dating last century things were very different" so who knows!

Good luck. 🙂
Good point! I appreciate the input!

This is an extremely piano nerd thing to talk about, but this circled chord (Bm/A—there’s an F sharp in the key signature) spread across the keyboard sounds SO cool. Was just working on this accompaniment (Desenclos Aria et Rondo) and found this passage especially interesting. I don’t really know why—I think it has to do with how it moves in general. Worth listening to a recording of it if you want to get an idea of how it sounds.

Tea is on my mind. And cereal. I miss them both. Especially at breakfast. I’m not really wanting black coffee to start my day. It’s not even good coffee.

But a decent mug of tea? I’d pay good money for one of those. Have to wait for Monday though.
Take your own tea. 🙂 Most hotel rooms can provide a kettle to boil some water.

And yes, French coffee — especially with UHT milk — can be variable.

What kind of cereal?

What's on my mind is that I'm 21 years old as of Tuesday.
Birthday greetings.
Is this my last milestone birthday?
No.

And while many men I have met deeply regret the passing of their very youthful day, I have yet to meet a woman who thinks this.

There are as many milestones as you set out in the path of the journey of your life.

For my part, while I enjoyed my 21st birthday, (I invited some close friends to a dinner in a small, but quite lovely, late Georgian building that hosted a hotel and well regarded restaurant), I am one of those who never quite got the hang of being young.

In any case, while my twenties were okay (and far better than the awful years of adolescence), I far preferred my thirties, forties, and fifties.
I guess I still have 25 when my brain is fully developed and I can rent a car. 🤔
I would argue that it gets a lot better once you reach 25; but then, I suspect that I may have been born an old soul.

Tea is on my mind.
Tea, I can agree with, but only good tea.
And cereal.
Travels to countries where cereal simply didn't feature has meant that I haven't consumed cereal for years.

Fair enough.

A cold plate, and/or eggs and bread (plus juice and coffee) usually suffices for me.
I’m not really wanting black coffee to start my day.
Each to their own, but I will readily concede that black coffee is not for everyone.
It’s not even good coffee.
That is a crime.

Especially in France.

Fair enough.

I feel similarly about good coffee.

Agreed.

I sure hope so. So far, my twenties have been pretty terrible, at least in terms of my mental and physical health.
I don't doubt that, but I will offer - as a possible corrective, a suggestion that you think to add some proportion, some perspective - to all of this.

Yes, you have challenges, but you have also enjoyed considerable advantages.

In fact, not everyone has enjoyed your advantages.

Clearly, you come from a reasonably affluent, loving, stable, and pretty supportive family background - in terms of your personal and professional development.

Moreover, at university - while attending a specialist course - you are studying a subject that you love and, equally clearly, are passionate about and, obviously, have an aptitude for.

These are not minor matters.

Happy birthday last Tuesday !!! You'll have a bunch more milestone birthdays , but they just sorta happen , you can't plan them . Two of mine were when I hit 30 and realized I could never wear the t-shirt saying ' Never trust anyone over 30' and 50 ; when my friends threw me a celebration where the invitations said ' Help Someoldguy celebrate half a century of mediocrity' . Anyway , here's hoping all your milestones are good ones!

Just back from an enjoyable night out. Had a nice meal with good company. Some of the crowd were off to see a band, but quite frankly I’m too old to want to be anywhere else but bed having been on my feet all day.
Only had 1.5 beers as I’m trying to pace myself. Tomorrow night though we are supposed to be going out for a bit.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Whenever we travel I always take a little baggy of Extra Strong English Breakfast tea bags.
Almost boil the water*, steep for 2~3 mins, enjoy. I tend to go for the 2 mins, as I can't wait any longer...

* I got this from watching the head taster at Twinings. Don't boil the water. Just get it to about 95C. He should know what he is talking about

I searched for summary of CSI (tv show from 2000) and got full one. Does any body take a moment and appreciate that there are people on the other end that put effort to provide this information, design the site, and pay for the servers?

I think internet users take it for granted and think "its on the internet" without thinking there is actually another human on the other end that spent time, effort, and money to make it available for you.

I think we all should be appreciative and thank the "community" by giving back, either by providing information ourselves or money donations.

I am especially appreciate of people who spend their time answering people's questions online, they gain nothing out of it except socializing and helping others.

I’m no longer after tea or porridge. Just a drip with strong pain killers. My neck and feet are killing me.

Too old for 12 hours on my feet with no break. I need an early night but off out for dinner.
You don't get a chair? Were you able to take turns with your colleagues at the stand?

So although it was the opposite of what I needed we went out for a lovely meal this evening.
Afterwards we headed up town to take in a jazz band. We got to the set late but I have to be honest I thoroughly enjoyed the couple of songs we heard.

We tried another place but the queues were long.

It’s 1:25 AM. Alarm goes off at 6:30 AM.
Last day tomorrow. Then we get to pack up and I fly home Monday.

What's on my mind?
  1. A video on Youtube reminded me of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum, the list of prohibited books by the Catholic church, maintained up until 1966. Interestingly, Erasmus Darwin (Charles Darwin's grandfather) was on the list, but not Charlie himself.
  2. Bathurst 1000 road race. 161 laps around a 6 km loop on Mt Panorama. Rain expected later this afternoon. The best race in the world. Ford vs Ferrari should have been filmed there.

I seem to recall reading that it was as late as 1979 that the Vatican (very quietly) arrived at the conclusion that it was no longer deemed heretical to concur with Galileo's defence of Copernicus's revolutionary thesis re what body actually orbited what - in other words, where the centre of the solar system actually lay (whether the planets revolved around our Earth, or, whether they orbited the local star, our Sun, instead), in our solar system.

Back home. The flight home was packed. I find people’s attitude on flights appalling. I really dislike travelling these days.
I watched a show on my phone I downloaded to drown out the noise.

Usually I travel with my Bose QC35’s, but space was at a premium so it was just the AirPod Pro’s.
