Currently thinking salad was the wrong call for lunch.

I tried to post here a few minutes ago, but the site stalled, and refused to budge, and the post vanished into the ether.

Anyway, I can well imagine that a salad might be the wrong option for 'this time of year'; I'd recommend a homemade soup (if the catering prepares such - many small restaurants offer one superb soup), and maybe a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, or something along the lines of a Croque Monsieur.

Sounds delicious. Though I reckon my hand would taste awful, tufts of hair aside.

Sorry, this damned auto-correct (I am sorely tempted to turn it off - my first attempt at that post, stalled, hanging, and then vanished), plus my ageing, bespectacled eyes.

Anyway, obviously, that should have read "ham and cheese toasted sandwich".

It's fine. Honestly, I was craving a ham and cheese sandwich this morning, toasted and finished off in a sizzling hot pan. Though it seems while I thought I picked up ham for our own consumption, I merely glanced at the hams at the store. And, of course, no aged cheddar. I was tempted to crack into the Lancashire bombs, but I'd have been admonished for doing just that. I'll simply consume the leftovers in the middle of the night as a light snack, of course.

Well, you did devour lashings and lashings of aged white cheddar quite recently.

I always keep some hard cheese in the fridge to use for grating, or slicing, in such situations.

No, for now, the Lancashire bombs should be left well alone.

Catering? We have a kitchen with a microwave, fridge and a kettle in my office.

Is there a canteen, or restaurant?

Or, anywhere that serves decent food nearby?
Not really. Certainly not in the short amount of time I allocate to lunch.
There is a park opposite with a cafe, but I’d not describe it as decent.
A pub down the road, but pub lunches don’t really work for me if I’m working.

Also as I don’t often eat bread lunch options are limited.

Yes, but this is not the time of year to think of salads; while I love salads, from now until March, I will usually have them only with a warm (or hot) meal.

Just finished setting up my loan 4K monitor. Very nice. Will dig out my i1 Display pro and calibrate it. BenQ SW271 is a lovely display. Just needs a matching one besides it!

I hope you had something else too. I had salad on Wednesday for lunch, but also a nut butter bar that helped fill me up.

Debating whether or not I should fire up my PC laptop which has been unused for months now. I finally brought it downstairs after charging it 2 weeks ago.
Salad is pretty standard for my lunches. Most days of the year (including today).

Last day in the office for a week today. Did I forget anything is very much on my mind!

Exactly, otherwise one might feel the onset of a snack attack at around 3.30 in the afternoon.

For once, no. But, thank you for asking and I am more than a little impressed that you remembered.

Although, perhaps surprisingly, there are still several small shortbread slabs in the tin.

No, I had two squares of organic dark chocolate with hazelnuts, instead.
That sounds nice too. Just finished my hot chocolate.
Struggling to stay awake.

In fact, tomorrow, when I head out, I must add to the shortbread and the chocolate; we don't need much, but it is nice to have a few bits and pieces to hand, at this time of the year.

Head off to bed when you feel that you will fall asleep on the sofa; sofas are fine for a good nap (especially in a warm room), but you want to have an uninterrupted night's sleep in a proper bed, too.
