Thank you. One friend is an Arsenal supporter, the other a Leeds supporter. I think I’ll be consoling them both!
Well, yes.

However, given that as recently as last August no serious commentator had predicted Arsenal finishing in the top four (which was the main goal this season), I think the fact that we - to be quite candid - over-performed to finish the season in second place is more a cause for celebration than depression.

Celebration as much as commiseration would seem to me to be in order.

I would have been delighted - and astonished had we won the Premier League.

However, we lacked the strength in depth, and - above all - we sorely missed Saliba; had Saliba not been injured, I think that we might have had a serious stab at maintaining some degree of momentum and challenging for the title until the end. As it was, once he was injured, our performances drastically deteriorated, especially in defence.

In any case, I hope you have a terrific time, and do try to enjoy it.

I can assure you that I wasn’t laughing, as I can assure you that the feline was very proud of herself.
I can well imagine that.

Let us hope that the incorrigible feline does not attempt to replicate this behaviour some other morning.

Carefully closed - actually, firmly shut - doors to what a friend once referred to as "The House Of A Thousand Pleasures" (that was pub talk, but - in the circumstances, - was considered witty and clever) would seem to me to offer a possible solution should this scenario be repeated in the future.

As is mine, truth to tell.

Now, once upon a distant time......

Nevertheless, I well recall my awed gasp of amazed (and avaricous) delight when the late Mr Jobs unveiled the original MBA, drawing it slowly out from an A4 envelope.
I’d be amazed if it turns out Cooks glasses were the product, he’s been wearing them for months and no one noticed.

What's on my mind? Summertime, and the livin' is easy..... Sitting out on my deck with a cold beer enjoying our 92° day! Right now this is actually tolerable because there is a pleasant breeze that flirts with us every now and then, and the humidity is not at the seriously uncomfortable level it will reach later on the summer.

Watched an Osprey circling the lake a few times with a smaller bird chasing him, but didn't have a camera out here with me and these guys move incredibly fast, so instead I just watched as he circled once again, then dove, talons extended and, BAM! came up with his prize, with which he happily flew off to enjoy in peace somewhere else.

I'm sure I will. We will mostly be ribbing the Leeds supporter! Looks like the weather will be brilliant as well. I've got my camera batteries on charge in preparation.

Okay, Leeds, yes, well.....that is something entirely different and perfectly understandable.

Yes, the weather is gorgeous.

Excellent; good to know that the camera will be accompanying you.

Hope you have a brilliant time.

I'm in a very weird spot right now. I ended up applying for the teaching job, and I'm going in for an interview next week. But here's the problem, and possibly a reason why they won't hire me—because I can't be a long-term employee, because I'm going 1500 miles away to college in September.

But why I'm in such a weird position now is because I literally have NOTHING GOING ON (except for gigs, which mostly happen in the evenings). So I thought, why not apply for a job? But then it'll be like less than a month actually on the job after training and whatever. So I have like three months of summer vacation (from now until September), but is three months long enough to work this teaching job? Probably not. If they're looking for long-term employees, I'm definitely not their guy. If they want someone just till August, I'm all good with that.

So even if I do get hired (which obviously I'm not sure about yet), I might have to just decline the job offer, because it'll be such a short amount of time. I really don't want this to become a whole big thing, and potentially an HR problem for them, because they'll be dealing with a guy who's just working for like a month.

And I know for a fact that some people are going to ask, "well, why did you apply for a job in the first place?" Because I want to keep myself occupied for these three months only, that's mainly the reason.

I know, as is typically the case, that I'm probably not making any sort of sense, but I just want something else to do in the meantime before the fall.

Just apply for a temporary job. In fact apply for lots! Interview experience is always beneficial for someone young like you. As is writing covering letters etc.

Just back from a quick dash into the farmers' market, nice and early.

Treated myself to eggs (organic, free range - I had phoned the stall holder to keep some for me), chives, parsley, onions, carrots, spinach, salad greens, aubergines, several heads of new season's garlic, and cherry tomatoes - all organic.)

Olives were purchased in the olive stall, as were semi-sundried tomatoes, and wild garlic pesto, while I also purchased buffalo milk cheddar, Gorgonzola, mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano.

And I collected the bread which awaited me in the French bakery.

Now, for coffee and the Financial Times.

As I had left my phone at home when I headed into the farmers' market this morning, I missed several calls from the cheesemonger.

He wished to avail of my driveway (to leave his car) for a few hours while his son (who is goalie) participated in a two-day (what glorious weather) five-a-side football (soccer, to those reading from Across The Pond) competition held in a nearby park.

So, have just had a lovely coffee with the cheesemonger and his wife, and they have headed back to watch the third match in the earlier rounds of the football competition; (the son's team drew - against the favourites, - in the first game and thrashed their opponents 6-0 in the second).

The finals are scheduled tomorrow, and, assuming their son's team qualify, - and given their results, so far, they seem to have a good chance of doing so, - I can expect to play host to an Audi in my driveway, tomorrow, as well.

Are you watching? I think there is another game on this afternoon.
Yes, there is indeed another game on this afternoon.

However, the five-a-side competition will resume tomorrow; we shall see - I might take a look - the games are only twenty minutes long, and today, each team played three games to determine which of the teams would advance to tomorrow's finals.

Watching Womens Champions League Final Barcelona - Wolfsburg 0-2 in half.
One Swede in Barca, Fridolina Rolfö, but unfortunately Wolfsburg are in charge with the always sharp Alexandra Popp.
One half left….
Barca reduced 2 minutes in, yay. 1-2
4 min in 2-2. Wow.

Our Swede could make the decisive goal 3-2 to Barca.
Wonderful, we need her in a good and hungry shape.

...and perhaps a little box of cheese in return for the free parking
Bless him, he rarely asks for anything.

He is more than welcome to use of the driveway.

Actually, the cheesemonger has been an absolutely brilliant friend to me - a classic "foul weather" friend, especially in the difficult times following the deaths of each of my parents.

Besides, each Christmas, he drops in an enormous box of cheese - and sundry other goodies - to me.

Why do people go out and buy computers just to buy them? Especially computers that only partially work. I don't get it, it's like you're going to use it once and then it'll just be sitting on a shelf until you sell it off again. And for the ones that are only partially working, then you have to spend extra money, and do extra work to fix it. I don't know, I guess some people just love having stuff to fix, but why not just have something that works?

We clearly move in different circles. I’ve never met anyone who has done that.

Here thinking about my trip tomorrow. Getting some gardening in first though as I don’t have to leave until 2.

You know, not everyone has the same interests, the same hobbies, the same hopes, the same income, the same abilities, the same way of looking at the world.

So what if people buy computers for the sake of buying them, or, if they work only partially?

Why expend so much energy (and emotion) on something that is, firstly, none of your business, or no concern of yours, - think more and judge less - and secondly, and more importantly, does not cause you any harm - which would indeed serve to make it a cause for concern?

Accept that people are different and that their motivations for doing things are also different.

Very different circles, agreed.

Enjoy your trip; I'd imagine that you must be looking forward to it.

Will you spend the entire time in one place?
