Oof. Rough couple of days abroad. My partner came down with pretty bad food poisoning late last night, after we both ate at a small restaurant in Lisbon. We ordered similar things (though his had chicken in it and mine didn't, so that's a possible culprit), though I am fine thankfully. A bit of a language barrier at the emergency room this morning (since his symptoms weren't going away and we were worried about dehydration), but they were all really helpful and it gave me a chance to use my (admittedly limited and Brazilian) Portuguese. He's feeling better now--but it's always scary when a loved one gets suddenly acutely ill and you're in a foreign country.
That must have been an upsetting experience.

Falling ill is one thing - and always unsettling - but for it to happen while abroad must make matters even more challenging.

Good luck.

I remember getting food poisoning in Budapest years ago from a ham salad sandwich. I realised I was ill on a tram and at my stop I was suddenly sick in the aisle in front of a load of horrified people. I just ran back to my hotel and spent 2 days thinking I was dying! In that situation you just want to be home in familiar surroundings.

Well, (over two decades ago), it was Warsaw for me, after a lunch of (what seemed at the time to have been delicious) steak tartare.

I remember beginning to feel rather unwell en route back to my hotel, and things went downhill from there.

Gosh, yes. Completely agree.

The news of the tragic, premature loss of a close relative.
Condolences. I know that doesn't help much.

FWIW I think when somebody dies before their time, we all think about what their life would have been like had they survived. I think that counterfactual thinking makes the pain more acute, but I think that is what separates the quality of our awareness from less sentient animals.

Sounds better than my day in the office.
I had an early quick lunch as I had a meeting at 1. 12:45 meeting was cancelled.
Well, we had our lunch (plus a bottle of wine) - a long, lingering lunch - in the award winning restaurant where I dined last week with old friends.

Then, we proceeded for to head for a coffee in, (or, rather, at the tables outside), the French bakery.

A very pleasant afternoon.

More shopping to do for the supplies required for our annual crayfish party this Saturday. Guests include Finns, Irish and myself. One fellow always brings his homemade dill aquavit which is enjoyed by all. Looks like the weather may cooperate so we can eat outside.

Saw my brother (Decent Brother) for a lengthy cup of coffee; well, two cups of coffee and a good chat, in the French bakery (which also has a very small, but very good, café).

Very pleasant.

Treated myself to some French bread and paid a visit to the cheesemonger.

I am a little irked to have discovered that one of the cheeses that I had bought and paid for earlier today (the Camembert) was not included in my purchases, while I was also charged for two other cheeses that I had not bought.

Clearly, a case of a genuine mix-up, amid much confusion, (the cheesemonger's, which was almost empty when I entered, filled up completely within minutes) but this is something that I shall have to attend to, tomorrow.

Does anyone have any ideas or inspiration for a home office revamp for a small room? I just got a major housing construction project done and would like to just change up the office. I need a new desk, probably new chair, and I would like to Mount the TV, but I really don't know anything about any of that. For example, when you mount a TV, where do things like the blu ray player and apple TV go. I only have one Homepod Speaker so I probably need to either get rid of it for the upgrade ones (Mine is the original home pod and then Apple discontinued it) or get a soundbar. I guess the problem I have is my creativity is lacking and I wish I knew more about this entire process than I did.
