I hate colds. I rarely get them. Like probably once every 5+ years.Ibuprofen seems to be working well enough.
To be honest I’m very rarely sick. I haven’t taken a day of sick in more than a decade.
Hope you get better soon.

You're lucky! This is the fourth time I've gotten sick this year. I'm doing everything I can to NOT get sick—washing my hands often, etc. - but it doesn't always work...I might jinx this now but the last day I had off work due to sickness was in November 2007.
In my teaching days, there was always an outbreak of colds around two or three weeks after term resumed (and that pattern had also held when I was at school, i.e. pre-university).You're lucky! I worked in a hospital for 30+ years and the method I found effective is serial handwashing and NEVER touch my eyes, nose or mouth with my hands unless they were washed. I never got sick at work.In my teaching days, there was always an outbreak of colds around two or three weeks after term resumed (and that pattern had also held when I was at school, i.e. pre-university).
A sudden change of temperature, (in autumn), proximity to many individuals (some of whom will, most certainly be incubating stuff), skipping (proper) meals - you are not at home, and college, as a new experience, can lead to a more unstructured life - can all leave you more susceptible to colds and sore throats.
Anyway, rest, hydration, hot drinks, and yes, Ibuprofen, should all help.
In recent years, I have noticed that I can be susceptible to colds a few days after a series of long haul flights (on the packed planes we are compelled to fly on these days).I hate colds. I rarely get them. Like probably once every 5+ years.

Fortunately I’ve not been on a flight for a few years. But I’d still wear a mask if I did.In recent years, I have noticed that I can be susceptible to colds a few days after a series of long haul flights (on the packed planes we are compelled to fly on these days).
I try to deal with this by copious usage of both Tea Tree oil, and Olbas Oil, (putting several drops of both oils on to a tissue and inhaling) and find that this - usually, but not always - works in staving off colds.
Thanks for the timely reminder.@Scepticalscribe you might be interested to know that Mary Beard’s new book will be released this month.

WHAt?!?!?! You knew about this and didn’t tell me about it??????? My vengeance shall be merciless. Thanks for the timely reminder.
Much appreciated.
Actually, it will probably come as small surprise to you to learn that I have already placed a reservation on it in my local library for when it will be published/released (and, better still, - I've just checked, as I placed that reservation a few weeks ago - it appears that I'm first in the queue).
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.WHAt?!?!?! You knew about this and didn’t tell me about it??????? My vengeance shall be merciless.

It’s like you stabbed @yaxomoxay in the back! Fancy not telling him.Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Ouch.I've been warned by a former flight attendant who says that between flights, the airlines have little time to do anything beyond a quick pass through a plane to pick up trash. To try to protect against germs left by the previous occupant of the seat, she says she always carries a travel pack of alcohol wipes to use on the tray table, arm rests, seat belt, etc.
Oh absolutely! But I highly doubt they're cleaned very often (or as often as they should be). I fly regularly already for vacations, but now even more because I'll be going to/from school several times a year, and I've ALWAYS (since the pandemic at least) made sure to wear a mask.Another area that merits similar attention - I would never have thought of it but was advised by a friend who seems to know about such things - is (are) those horrid trays (during your passage through airport security) where you deposit briefcases, belts, shoes, wallets, etc; they seem to me to be an equally rich source of potential infection.

I doubt it. They work on a 24 hour timetable.I wonder if getting a first flight in the morning would be cleaner. Do they conduct a more thorough cleaning in the plane has parked for several hours vs a quick turn around.
Ouch.
I'd rather a delay between flights, and a serious cleaning of the interior of the plane.
But yes: Profits, cheap flights....yes, I know, I know, such things come at a cost, measured not only in reduced comfort and space in aircraft.

Only if they are prepared to pay the extra!while there are planes flying overnight, there are a lot of planes sitting at airports for a few hours over night, and yes, that does allow for more cleaning time
And how long before "Bedbug-free seat" is an option along with extra legroom and quick exit...and with all those travelers bringing along their luggage, there's an increasing problem with bedbugs moving out of hotels and into mass transportation.....how long will it be before we have bedbugs for undesirable seatmates on airplanes?
