In a coffee shop.
We're having our 46th Wedding anniversary today :)
Wonderful; congratulations, and do enjoy.

My father died one month before his 45th wedding anniversary, and - at the time of his death, and under his instructions - we were planning how and where to celebrate the anniversary.

My mother refused to cancel the reservation we had at an excellent (award-winning, starred) restaurant, and, instead, simply took us all - treated us - there to a stunning dinner to celebrate his life instead.

Think I’ve caught a cold (not surprising). Though glad it happened AFTER the choir concert instead of before. Lots of water and ibuprofen in store.
Commiserations.

I'm currently nursing a cold, as well, - one of those chesty and nasal things.

Floods, landslides, and blocked (and, in some cases, destroyed) roads have cost lives, and - of professional relevance to me - served to delay the election in some of the regions of the country where I am currently observing an election.

We will have to see how we can best proceed.

Swiss chocolate; just had coffee with a Swiss army officer (an official but very agreeable meeting - we've had several with him and his colleagues since our arrival, basically, briefing one another) who furnished us with some of the Swiss chocolate that the Swiss authorities supply to the Army (and are not available, nor for sale, to the general public).

He said that he has to keep the chocolate supplies under lock and key in his living quarters..

Sorry to hear about your father, but I bet he had a marriage full of love.
My wife and I are not restaurant people, but we'll enjoy our own homemade veggies ;-)

It sounds as though the situation there is as bad as it is here in our Southern states (in our case, due to Hurricane Helene). I've seen headlines about deaths in the areas around where you are, too. Water -- floodwaters in particular -- can be so damaging to property and can indeed take lives.

This sort of thing definitely does disrupt elections, too, and right now in the US, the various electoral boards in the affected counties and states are trying to figure out how to handle it. Early voting, both in person and by mail (actual election isn't until November 5th) has already been begun and ballots had been mailed out to absentee voters as well; now most of the mail service in those areas has been halted temporarily, but some ballots may already have been lost and destroyed in the flooding.

Hope you quickly recover from that cold -- that can be so uncomfortable and downright annoying in so many ways, especially when one has things that need to be done and can't just quietly hole up in a quiet room with a good book for a day or three....

Okay, this literally had me laughing for quite a long time. Since I don't have a car up here, I just looked this up for fun, but the result was quite hilarious. It would be cheaper to fly - yes, you read that right, to take an airplane - to the nearest Apple Store, than it would be to get an Uber/Lyft.

I seriously should do that sometime, fly to the Apple Store. That would be interesting!

He did.

They were friends, actually best friends, and partners, - and my father used to introduce my mother as his partner - as well as husband and wife.

Laughter and love and friendship and fondness marked their relationship, along with affection and approbation.
My wife and I are not restaurant people, but we'll enjoy our own homemade veggies ;-)
Do enjoy and I hope you have a wonderful time.

Hope today is the worst of it. Tested negative for COVID but I have a fever.

I actually NEED to get better quick cause we’re putting on a massive performance next weekend with all 17 large ensembles, and we have many rehearsals next week.

I’m still not 100% from three weeks ago. To put it into context that’s the longest I think I’ve ever been sick in my life.
I’m 95% there, but it’s still lingering. I’ve not been off work or anything. I was on holiday for the worst couple of days anyway.

Mrs AFB is slightly worse than me, but on a similar trajectory.

The awful weather isn’t making it any better though. Cold wet and miserable all day.

Sadly it’s a 7 day week this week. Off to Paris on Friday for a couple of days. No site seeing though. I’ll be working long hours at the Paris photography show.

At least I’m off the following week!

The poor thing.

Wince.

Agreed.

Apart from the long days, summer appeared to be some sort of fantasy, cold and miserable, and, from what I read (for I have been mercifully abroad for over a month) this awful weather is what has passed for normal for the past few months.

My sympathies.

I am not looking forward to my return - not at all.

Well, enjoy what you can of Paris - it is a terrific city, one I love.

And the food is amazing, even in the most basic of bistros, or cafés.
At least I’m off the following week!
Enjoy.

I’ve decided to sell the grand piano my daughter used. Does anyone know what the middle peddle is for? It is in perfect condition, perfect I say. Not a blemish on it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ve been to Paris before, but not for decades. I’m unlikely to see much other than the exhibition hall and the hotel.
I did consider tagging a day on at the end for some time in the City, but decided to head home instead. I’ve already had two short breaks this year as well as several work trips.
Not really wanting to spend any more time apart from Mrs AFB

Here watching MOTD2 whilst trying out to think about work in the morning.

Fair enough.

I hope you enjoy your trip in any case; it is one of the world's great cities.

How many days - how long - will you be staying in Paris?

What brand/model is it? Yamaha? Steinway? Mason and Hamlin? Good grand pianos can fetch a LOT - I mean a LOT of money. I happen to just have a Yamaha upright back home, so nothing particularly fancy. University has mostly Steinway model Ms and a few Yamaha C7s, and of course Model Ds on the stages.

The middle one is the sostenuto pedal. Notes played before pressing it will sustain, subsequent notes will not.

I would agree! I think the food in Europe is a million times better than in America.

Though I will say, although Paris is a lovely city indeed, as a tourist I much prefer Copenhagen. But that’s just me.

Not long. Fly out Friday morning. Straight from the airport to the show.

Then all day Saturday at the show.
Sunday at the show until I leave to catch my flight.
The show is 9 am to 7 pm hence not going to see much of the City.

Sounds as though you will be pretty busy and whatever time you have while there will be accounted for.

Still, you may be able to fit in a visit to a decent restaurant or two, or bistro, or local cafe.
