Indeed.

I am lucky enough to not live in a disaster-prone area, but I have friends in the affected areas.
Same. We moan a lot over here. But we don’t have earthquakes, hurricanes or tornadoes over here. We do get some flooding, but that’s usually localised and although not far from here, we haven’t been affected.

I just checked the current wind in Tampa.

“It is currently breezy at 9 mph. Tonight expect winds around 72.5 mph.“

I recommend getting your walk in early.

The only comments sections I open are those regarding film or album reviews. I know that the comments from news articles will either mirror my views or be opposed. Whereas the comments following music or film articles often are funny, insightful or offer a personal story.
Sure, but sometimes for example music videos can have outrageous comments and I don't mean "this band sux". One of my favourite songs from the terrific Welsh band Manic Street Preachers is a case in point. The song is "If you tolerate this, your children will be next". It's about the Spanish Civil War but some comments are really "rabbit like" IYKYK*. All I like to do is post my appreciation of the song and see who has seen a particular artist live. Sigh.

*Reference to a line in the song about rabbits.

There is a theory that the fruit Eve picked from the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden was actually a pomegranate. The whole apple idea is a translation misinterpretation.

There are a couple of other areas of mistranslation/misinterpretation that are interesting.

Leviticus, where the list of things you shouldn't eat is, Jerome (later St Jerome) translated a word as 'cherogrillus', which stayed in the Latin Vulgate and later English Douay-Rheims translation for 1500 years. KJV translated it as 'coney' and Webster used 'rabbit'. All along, it really meant rock hyrax, which if anybody had bothered to ask a Rabbi, they would have found out. I believe this has now been fixed in the latest versions of the Jerusalem Bible.

Revelations aka The Apocalypse, regarding the Number of the Beast. This has long been rendered as '666'. However, recent close examination of a particular text showed that there was a spot of fly poop on the page. Removing it changed the number to '616'.

Not taking any chances with either 666 or 616. ;)

I am not an expert but this is obviously a reminder that the wisdom lies between the lines and words and numbers taken at a face value are meaningless.

It is understandable that most people are inclined to have a more structural approach and will say something like: Don't give that non-structural "Think And Grow Rich" BS, give me an actual step by step guide to get rich.

I thought it was 999.🤨

I'll just call it 7.5 ± 1.5 to cover all the bases.🤓 So the Number of the Beast is 7.5 ± 1.5 7.5 ± 1.5 7.5 ± 1.5.

Getting ready for a massive performance with all 17 large ensembles next weekend! Rehearsals start tomorrow, but since we have to have the music 100% together, tight, and memorized BEFORE Saturday, I've already started to learn it. Pretty difficult actually, but a fun challenge!
Music's coming together! First rehearsal with the symphony orchestra tonight, which went well. Several things to tighten up though, but for a first run-through with everyone, I thought it went well. Keep in mind, this is DIFFERENT music from what we performed on our concert last week. So we've had less than a week to learn and memorize it. So I'm honestly pleased, and so were the orchestra and choir conductors.

Tried another interesting audio experiment tonight. Brought a recording into Audacity, used 3 different pitch-shifting methods, plus the pitch-shifter in Cubase, and compared them. Results are very interesting. Audacity (free software) has the best pitch shifter, if you use the high-quality preset. Cubase on the other hand, at least in the Elements version, has the worst one.

This is how I laid things out (exported the first three tracks from Audacity as .wav files).

You and I are pretty close geographically (I’m farther north and on the other side of the lake from you, but probably only a 4 hour drive), so I think it’s strange that you saw it and I didn’t. That was also the case last time.

I mean, I have friends here who sent me pictures of it so clearly it was here, but I didn’t see it. May have just looked at the wrong time.

I’ve been disappointed by Kp index of 6-7 in SE Michigan, just never saw it strongly. When I saw the 8’s was hoping for the best

Then they settled down, as the corona center moved south.

So, a 20-25 minute real window of true colors, action, visibility.

I hear (read?) you.

And I must admit that I am rather partial to the Manic Street Preachers.

People are weird. This couple on my plane today. They were maybe in their 40’s. They took selfies in the departure lounge. Selfies in the walkway to the plane. Selfies on the plane.

I mean who wants to see that? Why would you want to constantly document your life like that? I’ve never taken a selfie. Never will.
There are people who play the starring role in their own lives, and wish to document this fact.

Widely, alas.

"I am walking through the medieval market now...."

Sigh.

Aren’t we all weird though?!

No, but seriously… There are moments when I feel the urge to say (well, not out loud, but to write in a post), “Hey, this is where I am and this is what I’m doing.” So maybe I’ll post ONE SINGLE PICTURE to my Instagram story so my friends see it.

I think it is absolutely - and profoundly - embarrassing to record a video and say that out loud. Can’t say I’ve ever done that!

I think there’s some truth behind vlogs, honestly. I enjoy watching some - some. Reason being that I can learn what the general experience is like, should I want to know that. Sometimes, especially in a travel context, that’s really nice, and occasionally useful. That’s the ONLY use I see though.

So yeah, while I think your examples are honestly kinda disgusting and pointless (the content of them, not the examples themselves—hope that comes across as intended!), there are times when that’s nice to do, and there are times when I do it myself.

On a related note, I’ve had people ask me, “did you see the thing I posted on Instagram?” Here’s the thing: I care about each and every one of my followers—because they’re mostly people I know, or who attend the same college, etc. But I just don’t have the time, or honestly the motivation, to scroll through 200 or more unread Instagram stories. That just seems like an addiction to me.

EDIT: Should also mention that I don’t take selfies either! Don’t care about people seeing me, cause what’s the point of that.
