People are weird. This couple on my plane today. They were maybe in their 40’s. They took selfies in the departure lounge. Selfies in the walkway to the plane. Selfies on the plane.
I mean who wants to see that? Why would you want to constantly document your life like that? I’ve never taken a selfie. Never will.
There are people who play the starring role in their own lives, and wish to document this fact.
Widely, alas.
"I am walking through the medieval market now...."
Sigh.
Aren’t we all weird though?!
No, but seriously… There are moments when I feel the urge to say (well, not out loud, but to write in a post), “Hey, this is where I am and this is what I’m doing.” So maybe I’ll post ONE SINGLE PICTURE to my Instagram story so my friends see it.
I think it is absolutely - and profoundly - embarrassing to record a video and say that out loud. Can’t say I’ve ever done that!
I think there’s some truth behind vlogs, honestly. I enjoy watching some -
some. Reason being that I can learn what the general experience is like, should I want to know that. Sometimes, especially in a travel context, that’s really nice, and occasionally useful. That’s the ONLY use I see though.
So yeah, while I think your examples are honestly kinda disgusting and pointless (the content of them, not the examples themselves—hope that comes across as intended!), there are times when that’s nice to do, and there are times when I do it myself.
On a related note, I’ve had people ask me, “did you see the thing I posted on Instagram?” Here’s the thing: I care about each and every one of my followers—because they’re mostly people I know, or who attend the same college, etc. But I just don’t have the time, or honestly the motivation, to scroll through 200 or more unread Instagram stories. That just seems like an addiction to me.
EDIT: Should also mention that I don’t take selfies either! Don’t care about people seeing
me, cause what’s the point of that.
