Not sure what you're talking about... iMessages has always had end to end encryption.

Yes, if you had "iCloud Backup" turned on and had "Messages in iCloud" turned on, then a copy of your "Message in iCloud" key was backed up along with your messages - which was absolutely necessary in order to decrypt those messages to restore them back onto your devices.

However, with Advanced Data Protection turned on, your entire iCloud backup is now encrypted with a key that stays on device.
If, like a lot -if not most - of people you enabled iCloud , the messages wouldn’t be encrypted up till very recently (two months ago)

Same here with the unlimited texts but isnt the green bubble SMS? Which means it’s much slower than iMessage. How does that work in a group chat with iphone and android users? Surely if conversation is flowing quickly the iphone users messages are instant and the androids have to wait a few seconds for each message to send. Seems a bit weird to me.

WhatsApp just doesnt have that problem.
As far as I can tell the only disadvantage of group text with Android is you cant remove anyone from the chat and it isn’t encrypted

  1. Several reasons. The biggest and most important is that I have one place where I can message everyone on my Mac. Can't do that with Android users.
  2. I travel to Italy every summer. At this point I could use a dual eSIM/eSIM & physical SIM on my iPhone 13 and it shouldn't be too cumbersome, but it's still easier to have one messaging app tied to my number.
  3. I like being able to see the status of when people were last active.
  4. Phone calls by and large have been no problem internationally.
  5. I get far more spam messages via Messages versus WhatsApp.
  1. True.
  2. You can do it by disabling the data on your main line and enabling the data on eSIM. This should make iMessage use the data on your eSIM but keep your main # on your AppleID
  3. SMH. Very personal and complete opposite here. My activity info is disabled on WA
  4. Nope. Not even close. Facetime calls do not drop, cause skips or lost data/comnnmection for me ONCE. Whatsapp calls are sluggish, the quality changes rapidly and it uses a lot more battery.
  5. Messages. Not iMessage. You cannot compare SMS spam to iMessage spam. Whatsapp gets tons of spam, less than SMS, but tons.

Been trying it since yesterday, I know it's a beta but my god.. the amount of bugs this thing has are too many for a public beta (even with limited features).

Oh that's buggy. Window resizes don't persist, zoomed text doesn't persist. Even those by themselves are enough to delete it and go back to the previous version. Yes, I have submitted bug reports.

Here in the Netherlands, everybody uses Whatsapp. iMessage is not an option because of incompatibility with Android. Basically, you don't choose a messaging app, it is just the app everybody else in your circle uses. Now with privacy and security, the Signal app tries to take over, but it is hard to transfer to another messaging app if it doesn't come with compelling advantages.

Everyone in the UK uses WhatsApp
Yep, no weird creepy apple marketing forced green bubble complex in the UK.

If someones using iMessage in the UK, its probably with someone over 70 😂

Most people don't give a sh*t what phone you use here as it isn't a sign of wealth, anyone can buy an iPhone because of monthly payments, network contracts, second hand stores and many will just buy older models.

The US users have this weird complex that Apple has played into, remember all that AirPods broke boy crap on social media a few years back? Apple marketing at it again.

Glad to know it's native now... 🤣

First of All it’s a beta. Then 2nd, report the bug to Meta. On my Mac it’s only taking 70-80MB of memory. It’s much snappier than Electron garbage app. Chats load instantly, takes less memory & integration with macOS is much better, including working with Contacts app on Mac. I really hope this app also ships on the iPad

So no update to this beta since Jan release huh. Seems to work ok. Some minor bugs when viewing media etc otherwise works quite well.

I got a couple of updates during this month, remember to click on check for updates just in case.

I'm not using test flight version either

I checked for updates and have not had an update since the original article was posted. I'm on Version 23.5 (457012833).

I guess I maybe on the TestFlight version. Where can I get the non TestFlight version.
