Apple has officially released iOS 17.4.1 for iPhone users today. The update comes two weeks after Apple released iOS 17.4 with major changes in the European Union.

Apple released 17.4.1

Well one thing down that has to be before the release of the new iPads.

So the special version of iPadOS 17.4 is still not ready? The new iPad Pros are truly being held back by their own software. This wait is just painful at this point, especially since I haven't had an iPad in almost seven months
Yeah, the iPadOS transition really did not go the way I had hoped. Sure, there have been some decent iPad-only features but often it feels iPadOS is left behind.

I Love my iPad Pro but iPads being held back by the software, that's been the case for years.

Haha. It's only right he is getting flak. His timing predictions recently are all over the point and not clear at all. I know that may be what his sources are telling him, but he really needs to take a step back and think what he says publicly. The stuff he said about accessories and something big being released a few weeks ago was massively off the mark (no pun intended).

All iPad Pros have and are being held back by their software. FTFY.

It’s the smugness of that “not true”… without adding any context to it.

We all know his prediction is centered around this “variant of iPadOS 17.4”… which I’m skeptical about, but I just don’t see a point in denying a claim when it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Apple to announce it on the 26th (then release it sometime in April).

Unless he has a specific date in mind, which he clearly doesn’t… what was the purpose of the tweet? To feed his own ego.

100%, this is why I don’t like him one bit.

This whole conversation about the "special iPadOS release" is a total red herring. Apple knows exactly when they're going to release the iPads even if we don't (and Gurman doesn't). It's not like their press team is nervously standing up to peek over their cubicle wall to see if the software team is all done before pressing "GO" on the launch.

Where I’m at right now waiting for the new iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard. ;) I was hoping to take the new iPad Pro with ugraded SSD and RAM on my next road trip. But as things are going it does not look like Apple’s undisclosed release schedule and my trip schedule are going to align. Note that on the trip I wanted to gift my M1 iPad Pro to my daughter who I will see on my roadtrip.

Ordering while I’m on the road is also iffy as I would have it delivered to my local Apple Store. But I’m concerned I’ll outlay the money and the local Apple Store will ship it back to Apple and I’ll be waiting for a refund.

So where does that leave me? I’ll wait until the new iPad Pro is at my local Apple Store and see if an upgrade is worth it to me. I’ll also give the MacBook Air a look while I’m there.

Anyone pulling back on a instant must buy decision due to the slow-mo release date?

I also have a road trip the first week of April and I'm still in the bargaining phase where I'm thinking I can buy it and get it shipped to an Apple Store near where I'm going to be. But I was really hoping I'd get mine in time for departure.

Not planning to pull back on my decision though - fact is, I need one.

I'm going back and forth on whether i need to spend >£1.2k on an iPad more and more as Apple drags out this announcement.

It's very much a casual browsing device for me and my 2018 12.9in iPad Pro is fine, battery aside. The other option is to buy a cheaper iPad Air, but no promotion is a bit issue to me.

Well even after checking on the alternative buy of an upgraded MacBook Air the pickup date at my local Apple Store is probably not going to be in time for my trip. Nor will the hold time limitation at the Apple Store work for my homecoming. Not the end of the world as my M1 iPad Pro still works. But I’m just afraid delivery dates, especially on the new iPad Pro will really stretch out due to demand.

I have a 9.7" iPad Pro with an A9X and 2GB of RAM; I'm dying over here.

Like most, I just want an announcement. Gimme an announement 26th, and ship on Cinco de Mayo! Just announce it so we can look at specs, features, etc, then make an informed decision.

(Yes, I know, Apple likes to ship soon after announcing, so as to get the "impulse buy" shopper.)

Yup. So incredibly pompous.

Basicslly yes, his ego is rather large and they ALWAYS make up excuses when they are wrong, like how they c,aimed thr new redesigned f,st sided Apple Watch Series 7 was internally delayed that him and Koh who claimed that design was real, and then when it didn’t happen they said oh they delayed it, here we are in 2024 and still no new Apple Watch design bar the Ultra model. So they were both Koh and Gurman proved to be utterly wrong yet they made up an excuse for it.

It seems all iPad Pro models are still available for next day pickup and quick delivery here in the UK. Not sure if we should see that change soon?
