I have iPadOS 17.4.1 on both my 12.9 (Gen 4) and 11 (Gen 1)

iPadOS 17.4.1 was released on the 21st. It's just that the release page indicates otherwise, and people are theorizing that it's because that's when the newer iPads are going to get announced.

I live in Canada so the price will be quite worse, and I spent the last few months saving up. The reason why I'm getting the maxed out one is because my last iPad Pro (the 12.9" 2020 model) was almost full when I gave it to my sister and that was 512GB. My iPhone 13 Pro Max (also 512GB) is also almost completely full. I don't want to worry about running out of storage and as much as I hate the disgusting storage prices, you can't upgrade the storage or RAM yourself, and I don't feel like keeping my iPad plugged into an SSD dongle 24/7, especially since it has only one Thunderbolt port
Fair enough. 2TB is a lot for an iPad, but if you think you will fill it then go for it.

Canadian prices are almost always better than the UK (and Europe more widely). The current iPad Pro pricing is infinitely better and more aligned to U.S. pricing.

The iPad Pro M2 announcement date fell on a Tuesday, and it released the following week on that Wednesday... I'm hoping that this is the process Apple go with.
That’s great know! I sure hope we hear something next week.

I expect it to be $3500 for the iPad alone! I hope I'm wrong and it's less, but I wanna be prepared for the worst case scenario

I assume that's without tax, but even so, that is £600 less than current 2tb 12.9in pricing here. Ouch. I could get a flight to Canada for that🤣 The M2 Pros were priced as the Pound tanked. It has appreciated >12% against the US Dollar since the Oct 2022 launch so I'm hoping... that helps UK pricing, but Apple are greedy so i doubt it.

The rumor is that base pricing wil start at around $1500. Which would make a maxed out Pro $3500-$4000 range, with keyboard. But, as i said, rumor. But if it is, I think that would be a disasterous pricing point for the Pros. Guarantees the Air becomes the new Pro for a lot of people. Most people don't need laptop power in an iPad. Not at the price point. Unless you really need a touch screen, a MacBook Air or even a Pro would be a better investment.

After years of going Pro (and underutilizing it), I've decided I am a Mini guy now. The Pros sat docked most of the time (too big and heavy). But I use the heck out of the Mini. I will be checking out the Mini 7 hard when it comes out (allegedly) this fall. Hopefully, it will get 512GB storage. Maybe Mx love, but I suspect it will still be an A16, which would still be OK.

Imagine if they did start the new 11" OLED iPad Pro from 1500, whilst the Mini starts from what 450, 500? That's a hard hard sell. So I think it's a bit bogus the 1500, although you never know with Apple.

I agree that the pricing seems ridiculous, just to go to OLED. But $3,500 for a VR headset, or $500 for wheels or a special monitor base are ridiculous too, and that never stopped Apple.

I see a couple of you here prefer a 12.9” for basic consumption. You don’t find it too large for couch/bed use? I’m a first time iPad buyer (going to buy the 2024 pro, I want ProMotion and OLED) and I’m having a really hard time deciding between the 11” and the 13”. I feel like I’ll like the screen size of the 13” and it’ll be nicer to use for productivity tasks, but I’m worried it’ll be too big for couch/bed use and basic consumption, which is what my iPad will mostly be used for. Any insight you folks can provide to help me decide?

Everyone varies, but I'll share my experience. I got a 12.9" for the first time with the 2021 M1 Pro because I always dreamed of making my iPad a laptop replacement. It was a mistake. It was a worse laptop than a MacBook, and the large size ruined a lot of what made me love iPads in the first place. It was too big to just casually bring around the house and enjoy browsing on. Yes, you can do it, but was it an enjoyable experience for me? No.

If I buy an iPad again (I sold my 12.9"), I'll always go for the 11" size.

Yes and that's the worry. Let's hope the new iPad Pro's aren't one of Apples mad pricing ideas.

I honestly believe they won't do that for iPad Pros, which are a more mainstream "consumer" item than VR headsets or Mac Pro wheels. Accessories and niche items have always been more price gouged than mainstream items.

I do think it will be a bit crazy on Apple’s part if they price the new M3 iPad Pro with Apple Magic Keyboard, higher than a comparably equipped (RAM/SSD) 13” M3 MacBook Air. I suppose the new iPad’s new screen might explain a higher priced M3 iPad vs. the M3 MacBook Air.

The choice of device and price paid of course is the buyer’s choice. For me I’m really going to have to weigh my options once the M3 iPad Pro’s information is released.

A newer spec'd Mini is looking good to me now.

The current M2 iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard is already more expensive than a 13in M3 MacBook Air.

Forget the keyboard. The M2 13in iPad Pro is way more expensive on its own than the M3 MBA. It's madness.

The MBA has more space within the unibody clamshell to accommodate all of the hardware.

The iPP’s have to hold it all, and the screen, into one thin tablet.

They are two different products... this is what most seem to forget.

I don't see Apple placing a compare sheet between the iPad and MBA... if anything they won't you to get both and not decide between the two lol.

If you have to decide between the two... I suggest you go with the MBA, because that's the safe choice.

Oh, I understand why it is more. I just get frustrated by how useless iPad OS is, lol.

I’ve never felt it to be useless, it is mostly seamless in delivering what I require of it.

I agree it is limited in comparison to a full OS, but I think that is the intention, to create a segregation between tablet and computer, consumption device and workhorse.

Wait a min... the iPad is not a computer? And only a consumption device?

And what makes iPadOS useless?

It is a tablet with a mobile orientated OS.

Granted the iPad Pros carry impressive power and performance capabilities and many apps take advantage of that, bringing it closer to computer than tablet, but I cannot see Apple ever unlocking iPadOS to match MacOS.
