If it's not released for a while, do you think getting the 2012 Mini would be a massive mistake now, even if it was fully speced? I want to get it as soon as possible as my PC has self combusted and need one for my degree, so not really prepared to wait for months more.

If you get a 2012 version now, get a refurb. It doesn't make sense to pay the full price of a new one for something that's more than a year old. I got my 2011 server as a refurb just a couple months before the 2012 models came out. It's just like getting a new one except it comes in a plain brown box.

That's good advice but it also depends from where you buy it. I bought a new Dual Core Mini from Amazon and because I don't pay tax I came out slightly ahead if I had bought a refurb from Apple.

OK, the new Mac Pro is out. I, for one, am entirely ready for the "invisible" update to the Mac Mini!

Gonna be checking their website soon. It really would be a Christmas miracle if there was a refresh to the mini.

T2, PCIe SSD and Haswell at a minimum. Same form factor is just fine with me. And of course at least 5000 graphics. Preferably the IRIS if possible.

I would sell my 512GB Vector SSD based mini so fast heads would spin!

I am a dreamer, I know :)

US store is back up. New Mac Pro is available, but as expected no Mac Mini refresh.

Looks like hope for 2013 refreshed mac mini is getting smaller.

Let's hope it does not get re-design. Current mac mini already has a great design with sufficient ports (no more thunderbolt please) and some upgrade-ability present. All others Mac design except Mac Pro seems to have sealed design that does not allow customer upgrades.

I wonder, would people also wait this impatiently for exemple a new Dell release?

It's funny how Apple always sells it's new products as insanely good and 10x faster as the previous models and all you want, is once again, to buy the new one. Not because you really need it, just because it's the latest available...

And 300-400 days later, it starts all over again!! Lol

The waiting game :)

There was a bit of noise about the M3800 release, but there is far more noise for Lenovo's W540 release. Not quite at Apple levels, but then again we are 'special'

In Australia for example they put the prices up. They normally wait for updating the product before adjusting prices especially if an update is coming soon.

congrats

Congrats to the guy who forsaw the new mini wouldn't come in 2013!

Who foresaw that? Was fairly obvious that it most likely wouldn't come after the price rise, but it was possible though unlikely that they would decide to still update it this year after that.

Personally, I realized (around early Nov. 2013) that a new Mac mini wouldn't be announced in 2013 while everybody were trying to understand how an Iris Pro graphics can be combined with a mobile Haswell processor in the existing outer case...there isn't any available answer. Besides, many other questions don't have answers (higher RAM, optional dGPU, amended TB2 etc), too!

That means a Mac mini case redesign is required along with an internal re-arrangement...

Now, it depends on how fast APPLE wants to move in order to build a "really" new Mac mini. My guess is somewhere between Apr.-Jun.2014 (the faster scenario).

Let's wait and see!

Merry Christmas Everybody and a Happy New Year! :);)

The answer is that the Haswell CPU + Iris Pro iGPU has a TDP, which is only 2 W higher than the TDP of the Ivy Bridge counterpart. And that includes the integrated voltage regulators of the Haswell processor!

The Mac mini uses the same components as the rMBP, so i do not see a problem with Iris Pro and TB2.

Yes, I know....but your answer is a reason without an "easy" solution...

Late 2012 Mac mini vs. Late 2013 13'' rMBP doesn't use the same components!

APPLE has to redesign / re-arrange the existing Mac mini to build a compatible machine...

well I think I have a post in oct saying something like the mac mini 2012 quad does not have an equal and apple won't upgrade it. but I am 56 and my memory is not so good..

They really don't have any competition for small form factor desk top.

the zotac is the closest and it has only 1 hdd with out a tb connection. looks ugly

lastly the 2012 mac mini is amazon's no 1 seller for headless desktops.

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-...s/electronics/565098/ref=zg_bs_nav_e_2_541966

and if you read the list the mac mini out sells the imac on amazons website.

for every 1 guy like us that want better gear there are 100 that do not care.

And apple is looking at the bottom line. they feel that build a new mac mini will not mean much increase in income since it already sells well.

Most people simple just don't care how beastly a mini can be.

I agree with that. If you blink on a Mini on Amazon's website, they are gone. They usually last about 10-15 mins at most.

yeah us mac mini followers are a victim of its success.

It is the grade B plugger taken for granted by many but it sells. I could see the wait for a new mini to be the longest one that has ever happened. What is that 500 days. I will look for it.

appears to be that the march 2009 was a 574 day wait. I see that as a possible number for the new 2014 mini.

this cpu works has been out since may

My hope is that you're right on the timeframe, however my suspicion is that we'll be waiting until July.

And what requires the new space?
Blade SSD. Bye bye 2.5"x2.

Looks promising and i'd consider a second mini with those parts and it should scream if Apple drops PCIe Flash storage.

I'm still in the same spot I was a month ago. I need to get a new PC mine is 7 yrs old windows XP. Do I get another windows PC or do I get a Mac Mini. I can't wait till Mar or Jul next yr.

I'd be new to Mac so I'm worried about transition from windows to Mac but I've had an iphone for 2 yrs. I want the Mac Mini with SSD, I only need for internet, email, photos and watching videos (youtube) will the current Mac Mini last me 4 yrs if I upgrade ram to 8 or 16 myself?

If all you do is internet, email an watch YouTube videos, a four year old Mac mini would last you the next 4 years. Your 4 year old PC would as well, as long As you don't load it up with a bunch of malware.
