I mostly get over all scary games because horror movies are more terrifying than I think. there is only one that still gives scary **** out of me. DEAD SPACE. yes... even I played, and finished few times. even though I know the spot where monsters will attack me soon, the game is unbelievably terrifying me. as we know, DEAD SPACE 2 will be released Jan. 25th, 2011. so I can't wait for getting **** out of me as well.

Actually back in 1993 Doom was pretty scary for its time. It had both vibrant colors and creepy darkness at the same time.

Nowadays the only software program that scares me is the one that does my taxes.

Okay, I consider myself a pretty tough guy, if not desensitized to horror in many games today...

... but BioShock creeped the hell out of me. I don't think I ever finished it. Something about the distant groan of the Big Daddy lurking somewhere, just waiting to freak out and charge at me with its giant ass drill for a hand. :(

When I was younger, my first freak-out moment in a game was in the original Prince of Persia. I hated that mirror image that would keep coming back to haunt you. Brr!

The first resident evil and silent hill games are really scary, but somehow they drifted towards action based as the sequels are released. Take a look at resident evil 1 and 5. They are totally different. The constant saving up of ammo and creepy manor atmosphere definitely beats the crap out of the action based resident evil 5. Sure, the guy with chainsaw running around excites you, but it is definitely different from the survival horror feeling back in the earlier series.

However, that said, the scariest game I've played is Fatal Frame III. I'm pretty sure the first 2 in the series are just as scary. That was a game I never completed, completely spooked me out, and I made it a point to try not to play it at night.

The first game that scared me was Super Mario Bros 3 for NES. Those boos that chase you and that freaking scary sun in the desert levels!!!

YES for the sun. I could never beat that level as a kid, always had to get my cousin to do it for me. :D
Good times. Good scary times.

Killing Floor on Steam is a little scary. After all it does feature naked zombies and monstrosities out of a NIN or Marilyn Manson video.

I got freaked out playing F.E.A.R a few years ago not cause of the game so much as my sister storming into my computer room at 2am dressed in red top and jeans and hair undone after a night out. lol

for me it was bioshock, damn things hopping around with weird masks on, coming out of no where haha

I'm more scared of weird scifi/technology than I am of monsters/zombies.

Probably the last game that spooked me was Half Life 2 and Episode 1 and 2.
Not really outright scared, but a lot of creepy moments and atmosphere in that game. The whole dystopia/post apocalyptic feeling.
If I had to pick a particular creature from the game... the damn slaves with the red eye beams inside the Citadel... totally harmless, but very creepy.

FEAR, Doom3, original Halo (The Flood), the spooky mansion in Vampire Masquerade (when I was playing a vampire no less- lol), all produced moments of dread. :)

The silence in one of the Delta Force: Black Hawk Down scenarios, trying to catch up with the NATO convoy through the empty streets of Mogaadishu.

About 8 hours into a session of Dungeon Siege or NeverWinter Nights, headphones on, in the dark. Tense.

It's been a very long time for me. About when I played the original Aliens vs Predator.

Yeah, that game got to me also. I think it was mostly the motion tracker speeding up and telling me I was screwed. Doom 3 and FEAR both played on my mind the first time around.

Old independent game made by a studio that published only this one game. If you have an old mac or the Basilisk emulator, you must experience it.

Amber: Journeys Beyond.

It's almost impossible to find nowadays. Pure creepiness and very original myst-like gameplay. The entire game was made in macromedia flash player.

Jottle, Amber was a great (and scary) game.

Since Steam and Source games have recently been released for Mac, I gave many of them my first go through.

I must admit, there were a number of moments when Half-Life 2 gave me a good "jumping" scare.

Other than that Silent Hill 2 definitely had some scary moments. Alone in the Dark still scares me to think about and remember.

This is great. They must have just started uploading their archives again. Macintosh garden had many games like this one, but most of the large one's weren't available for download due to bandwidth limitations. I recommend this game to everyone. It will seriously creep you out even if you're jaded. Play it in a dark room. You'll need sheepshaver to run it. And an older version of quicktime. It may work in OS 9, but let the Amber installer install quicktime. I recommend installing OS 8.5 if you can. It will run on 8.5 quicktime extensions.

Thread Revival!

I just started playing Dead Space in the last week and after 20 years of video game playing, I think I am almost immune to being scared to some degree. However I think DS does a pretty good job of creating a scary environment. It does bother me when I watch a creature rip my character's body apart multiple times.

Dead Space and Silent Hill 3 are the only two games that have ever creeped me out to the point that I did not finish them.

It's been a very long time for me. About when I played the original Aliens vs Predator. I still have nightmares with things hurdling down long dark hall ways on the walls and ceiling at me. Ok, I exaggerate, but seriously my shoulders and neck ached! I also remember being tense playing System Shock 2. I figure after you've done a couple of scary ones, you get acclimated and then you are immune. ;)

Yeah, yeah. AvP got me too, but worse was Clive Barker's Undying!

Oh my God!

I've heard that Bioshock has its own moments.

I was around eight years old and went over to a friends house to play. His mother got out the board game "Life" and we played a game. Landed here, oops, you're in debt, landed there, oops, you've got kids.... It scared the stuffin' out of me. I remember thinking "if this is what the future holds then I don't want to grow up".

Don't play "The Sims". It will give you a heart attack!
