Funny that you dug up this thread! I'm currently playing some Uninvited on a Mac Plus. It was a spooky game for its time!

If this is it, wow. :)

Dead Space and Silent Hill 3 are the only two games that have ever creeped me out to the point that I did not finish them.

Dead Space has very high production values especially when your character is being ripped to pieces. Did you ever play Doom3? It reminds me of DS.

Yeah, yeah. AvP got me too, but worse was Clive Barker's Undying!

Oh my God!

I've heard that Bioshock has its own moments.

Bioshock has tremendous atmosphere and superb Art Deco design. However it was so oppressive living this nightmare under the sea, I did not finish it.

It really comes down to the age you are exposed to these games. As we get older, we actually can tell reality from fiction, therefore the monster-zombie-boss isn't that scary now or anymore. Don't get me wrong, there are scare tactics developers use to scare the shiz out of us, but they aren't intensified as when we were younger.

I remember pissing my pants trying to fight the Overlord when I was 5 years old playing Duke Nukem 3D. Shake it BABY:D

I call it becoming immunized. I'm not really scared anymore, but some games can still make me jump and make me tense. That is the best I get to being scared. :)

I've only recently started playing through Dead Space--it is horrifying and I'm not used to the camera view which makes it even more unnerving. The very first game to ever horrify me was either "Blood" or "Alone in the Dark" way back when (still great games today)...

Alone in the dark - was around 7 years old and it terrified me:

Start... Couple of minutes pass and you didn't block the window - scary music and a zombie crashes in through the window. Repeat, then a minute later a zombie creeps in from a floorboard...

Last week when playing L4D with head phones on. Those witches freak me out. I cant stand hearing something crying and in pain. Makes me shudder.

Definitely Bioshock! You just know something scary is going to happen, but you're still surprised and scared when it happens. And it runs pretty good under OS X.

Most recently on the Mac it has to be Amnesia (or the earlier Penumbra games). It's definitely a lot more scary when you can't pump any offending gribblies full of lead :)

Also, at the time of writing, it's an 50% sale on Steam so you can pick it up for just £6.49. Bargain :D

Anything in first person mode makes me jumpy, I have to play in third person or I won't play at all.

The most recent game to scare me was Banjo Tooie lol

The original Silent Hill. Not when you get stabbed by the dead kids in the beginning, not after you find the "Keys to Eclipse" and the town transforms, or even when the bloody locker is banging very loudly and you open it to find nothing.

No I jumped a mile in the air when one of the harmless apparitions appeared and squeaked and slid across the floor and through a wall.

For those of you using 5.1 on your pc/Mac gaming setups, what do you usually go with speakerwise? Positioning, what soundcard?

Doom 3 here as well. That one part where you approach a skeletal staircase and all of a sudden a monster appears underneath it and makes a noise. Almost needed to change my shorts.

Also, when you see the very first zombie in RE1. Creeeepy.

Amnesia is a very successful horror game. You have no machine guns, bazookas, or tanks for help - only your wits.

I will be buying the game after I tried out the demo... at night... by myself... with headphones... in the dark. :)

I'd have to go with Alien vs. Predator as well, I remember being the first person at school with a 32mb video card. That game flew!!! About six of us crammed around the 15 inch monitor and nearly cried as the aliens burst through the elevators.

I'm not sure which one was the last one. But you only need to play one these 3 games to have the living crap scared out of you (and they all end in 2s).

Resident Evil 2
Fatal Frame 2
Silent Hill 2

Amnesia, all the way. That game's messed up. Check out the demo on Steam.

But only if you play in the dark with headphones...
