$1,500US in 2022 is about $1,100US in 2007. The OG iPhone was $600 for the 8GB, IIRC.

The 2022 iPhone 14 Pro Max is ridiculously more capable than the OG iPhone. It would easily be worth $1,100 in 2007.

So to answer the OP question: There is no limit on how much I'll pay, as long as the value matches my expectations.

$1,500 for a super-computer that shoots broadcast-quality video, 5G, OLED display, 512GB of storage, etc, etc, etc, is a bargain.

As others have said: This isn't a phone. It's a super-computer that happens to also have a phone app, haha!!

I enjoy the ecosystem and even when the upgrades are marginal some years. I still manage to find something I really like and want with each upgrade.

Plus, being on the iPhone upgrade program, I'm not paying anywhere near the full retail price. I pay $58 a month ($696 a year) until the next phone comes out, and then I turn in my phone and get the new one lol.

most people aren't paying anywhere close to full price. here in the US, the carrier trade-in deals almost make it stupid NOT to trade in. get a brand new phone for $0? (or a couple hundred if you have an older one) why not?
But this is limited, if I could upgrade when I wanted I would do you but often times you get the credits over three years and you have to keep the phone that long

It's also worth noting that here in the states, we very rarely deal with the full sticker price. For example. Tomorrow morning I'm buying a 14 Pro Max 128GB (I don't take photos hardly at all and I'm using 73GB on my current phone). I'm getting it because I really want the new screen and dynamic island interface, and up until the event yesterday, I'd planned on getting a 14 Plus because I'm not crazy about the steel frame and prefer aluminum.

Buying that outright it would be $1100. That's a lot for me to spend. I could do it, but I'd have to be really careful with my budget for a few months to make up the hit. But that's not how we do here.

First, I'm trading in my 13 Pro Max. Verizon will give me $800 for that. So now we're down to just $300.

But even that I'm paying tomorrow. Instead, Verizon will finance that at 0% over 36 months, so what I'm really agreeing to is my Verizon bill going up by $8.30 a month. But even THAT isn't really the what I'm paying, because I'm already leasing my 13 Pro Max at $30.56 a month.

So upgrading to the 14 Pro Max tomorrow will actually SAVE me $22.26 a month because I'm going with less storage this go around and trade in value for iPhones to the carriers are so high that your TCO is damn near zero. They're almost giving you a phone just to charge you for the service.

I always wonder if these people who keep buying have 200.000$ per year jobs. Must be rich people, because anyone who is paying gas, electricity, food, rent or whatever surely can’t see this been right.

When will you stop?

Some people seem ok with paying 1.500€ for the 14 Pro Max. So, when will you stop?
It depends where ones spending priorities are. I could have a $600+ car payment + insurance, or I could have new Apple products each year with money left over to vacation.

I've owned every flagship iPhone except for the 13 Pro. I don't actually have a number for how much is too much. It's certainly more than the 14 Pro pricing.

I bought my iPhone 12 Pro for $1500, have had it for 24 months now, and I'll sell it for $850 CAD. A 256GB 14 Pro will cost me around $1600 CAD. So over the 24 months, the iPhone 12 Pro cost me $27/mth. That's totally reasonable for a device I use hours per day.

If we had iUP here, I'd probably just do that. It'd be $70/mth including AppleCare and I'd never need to worry about selling used phones.

I think I could reach out to few of those producers to create a tv show that covers for those ones who can't posssibly stop help themself from getting every other new gadgets and electronics every year. Like Hoarders reality show : )

It strikes me seeing people accepting buying a phone (Apple or any other company) for more than 1000€. Now with the new models a Pro 128GB is 1500€, which is absolutely insane. Maybe in 4 years the Pro Max base 256GB will be 2000€, yet still (some) people will buy it.

Doesnt matter if you pay it in 24/36 months. It is just TOO much.

It probably won’t stop. People will make their own decisions

Canada limited it to 24 month plans and we see similar rebates.

A bunch of friends got iPhone 12 Pro's (admittedly old) this week for $0 if they resigned a two-year commitment.

An IPhone 13 Pro cost Apple approx $570.00
To manufacture.
The sell price was between $999-1399.
The 14 is now an Antique.
More to come.
If they build it you will follow…..

Ive been buying since the first one. I've never paid full price I either trade in or sell my current device. It would have to go over $2k USD after my trade in, I guess before I'd really start questioning if yearly it is still worth it.

I'll continue with my current cycle - pay off the iPhone over 36 months with my carrier at 0% interest and upgrade/update only if the new model appeals to me. BUT if it goes over a couple of grand NZD, I am out.

I will have the battery replaced in my current iPhone and hand that down to either my wife or one of my kids.
We'll sell their old iPhone and make a couple of hundred dollars.
Personally, there's not a lot about the current iPhone that appeals enough to make me want to upgrade this year...so I will have a year off paying for a phone and simply have my mobile connection bill for a year.

The phones are powerful enough now that you can upgrade every 2-3 years and spread the payment over the longer period.
At 600-800 I would have bought new every year. At over 1000 I’m still on my 12 pro max, and will probably continue to be until next year.

Still haven’t answered my question. What would happen if that pocket computer rises it price to 2500$ or more? Will you still pay it? At some point you would stop because it is too much. When?
I don't think I'll stop at $2500, or even $3000.

Fortunately, with every iteration, they have increased the utility and value of these devices. The iPhone today is many times more useful than 5/10 yrs ago, and has displaced many other tools in my life. If this trend continues, the ceiling will keep moving up.

For example, my DSLR stopped working recently, and instead of buying a Nikon Z6II, I'm delaying it in favour of using iPhone 14 Pro. That's instantly a $4000 savings to me, at least temporarily. My craving for a photographic tool will be satisfied for at least another 6-12 months.

You don’t understand the question. When will YOU stop?

You like spending your money on apple gadgets? That’s ok. When will YOU stop if prices keep getting bigger?

THATS my question to people like you.

The issue is you didn't simply ask a question but did a lot of editorializing and assumed things about people. No one can really answer the question for sure anyway, as it's based on hypotheticals and no one can predict what their finances and priorities will be like in the future, nor what the future iPhones will be like.

Yes, too many people take the capabilities of iPhones for granted. Photographers spend WAY more on just a camera body and a few lenses than people would on a single iPhone that can do a whole lot more than just take pictures and video. I mean some lenses alone are $2000+ USD. Granted an iPhone is never going to be on the level of a dedicated camera body + lenses, but it's not meant to be. But the iPhone is worth every penny, as clearly indicated by the continued hundreds of millions of sales worldwide.

If people think a new iPhone is too expensive for them, then all they have to do is buy used ones after they're a year or so old and save a lot of money.

If it involves selling my organs, then I will stop.

The comparisons to years prior using inflation is fine but thats assuming wages are also keeping up and employers are also adjusting their pay.

That’s definitely not the case for many jobs/careers.

I haven't paid for a phone in over 10 years. I had the iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone XR, iPhone 12, and I'll probably get the iPhone 14.

The carriers here in the states let us return our 2-year old used iPhones and they give us brand new iPhones for free. The only caveat is that you're locked into your carrier for 2-3 years. Doesn't matter to me. I've been on the same carrier (AT&T) since 2008.

As long as the carriers keep offering these deals, I'll keep upgrading.

If I had to pay full price to get a new phone, I wouldn't do it. I'd still have a 5-7 year old phone.
But you are paying for the phone.......in the inflated service costs. Surely you get that

The monthly prices are the same regardless of whether you get the free phones or not. I'm sure it's baked into the prices, but you pay the same whether or not you opt to get a free phone.

I have 7 lines (4 phones and 3 watches) and pay $220 total with taxes. Unlimited talk and data. With free HBO+.
That's a lot. In a different country I pay $26 with taxes for 3 line (2 phones, 1 watch) with unlimited data, 100 min included talk time, and 500 megabit optical internet connection at home.
