Apparently so. I just checked the website and couldn’t find a resolution match with any of the bigger iPads. I guess the mini will finally have its own optimized apps (letterboxed until then). But interestingly it still retains its 326 ppi, the highest of all the iPads, which I thought was only a byproduct of Apple wanting to just use shrunken 9.7” apps. But I guess that nice perk is here to stay.
Man oh man, I sure do love that 326ppi on an iPad.

A lot of people ordering the 256GB, can anyone give a reason to why they get the bigger instead of 64GB? I'm still contemplating whether I need the bigger for epubs, some video downloading, maybe dabbling in Limafusion. Would be nice to have bigger since I'll be rocking it for as many years as it's supported. But it's a 209$ price difference(with taxes) in Sweden.

If you're going to be using LumaFusion in any significant capacity (and especially if you're planning on keeping it a long time) I'd say 256 is probably worth it. Stuff does tend to accumulate over time, so in a few years you may become squeezed for space. If you're constantly running near full, OS updates become a pain, and the system can slow down a bit too.

I own a 256GB Mini 5. The larger capacity is helpful for me because the device is so light and so small that I take it everywhere. As an ereader, it is terrific and the high dpi screen is great for comics and magazines. It is also my digital notebook/journal/planner. I have a ton of music and video on it.

You'll already be paying a premium for the Mini form-factor, it doesn't make sense to cut corners on the capacity. But also keep in mind the cost of the Pencil 2 and smartfolio if you'll get those things.

This is one reason why I'm sticking with the Mini 5. Pencil 1 and smartcover are much cheaper and readily available. Other accessories, like the Zagg keyboard case are also a fraction of the cost for their Mini 6 counterparts.

I have the 64GB mini 5 and I am using 57.4GB... so it's tight. One thing the mini is great for is gaming since it's the easiest to hold. I kind of regret not getting 256GB (at that time I chose LTE over 256 but should have taken both...).
Personally I am not going to upgrade. The mini 5 is still a beast, I am already invested in accessories (covers, brydge keyboard, pencil) and I still need lightning cables for my airpods on the go anyway... Also I use the 11 and 12.9 much more because of the magic keyboard, so this mini will be my only mini till the battery is not good anymore...

I ordered the space grey (256, cellular) to match my space grey 2020 iPad Pro. I’m so delighted that the Mini 6 will use the same Apple Pencil 2 and can be charged with the same USB-C plug.

It is exactly the device I was hoping they would make.

I have a 64 GB Mini 5 today which is kind of okay since I only used it for ebooks and light browsing, but I am now going 256 GB with 5G. Mainly my idea is that the Mini will be my “bring with me” device since it is so small and light, for travel (since that is starting to be a thing again), doctors appointments and whatnot. The smaller size also means I can play some games on the couch, the Mini 5 just felt too slow for that. Then having storage for games and offline movies/music will be good. The new aspect ratio should make it good enough for movies on shorter flights where I don’t want to lug out my 12.9” Pro which I use exclusively as a laptop.

One year of usage of my iPad Pro 11 inch was 128 GB SSD I’ve only used 18 GB, so 64 GB on the mini will be more than enough

Much appreciated for the answers! I'll most likely put an order on the 256GB tomorrow, I've been waiting for a Mini like this since before the 5 so I have the funds for the bigger size.
Welcome fellow Swede. Yes, I am in the same boat, and really am a bit miffed they skipped the 128GB option, but my current 2018 11” Pro this mini will be replacing uses 170GB right now. I wonder how much RAM the A15 variant this thing is going to get will have. Any Geekbenches out there in the wild yet for the A15?? Apple was worryingly coy about the performance, and didn’t even mention which processor the mini was getting until a grudging quip at the very end of the keynote itself! Weird.

Ah well, this is pretty much exactly the product I had asked and hoped for, so I will not skimp on the storage here, don’t really have an option to anyway. Wonder if logitech will make a keyboard w/trackpad case for this one as well

Sure. I can keep more movies, tv, video, comics, photos and art locally on the iPad. I’m not into cloud back ups (I prefer local back ups on my Mac and external drives.) Do not use too many apps, but given the larger file sizes of the content I create, consume, and/or use for art reference, that extra storage space helps tremendously.

Well now I can answer this.

Really impressed that the iPad Mini gets the high end 5 core GPU variant of the A15, very nice. 10% faster CPU than the A14 and 55% faster graphics than the A14. So this is like a supercharged iPad Air in your pocket. Love it. No qualms at all about getting this in the max storage for my next long term iPad.

I ordered 64GB as this is a second iPad to complement my 256GB iPad Pro. But I am pretty irritated they did not make it 128GB standard like the iPhone 13 released the exact same day.
If this was going to be my only iPad for creative work, I would be hesitant about getting only 64GB and expecting it to last ~5 years.
OTOH, if you use iCloud, that greatly reduces the demands on the internal storage.

4GB of RAM. And I think it will be DDR5

Same here. Love to keep movies offline when I travel outside my country or with bad reception. Not so important anymore nowadays in the EU as we have free roaming, still nice to have some offline tv shows and movies. And my iCloud Photos are also offline on my iPad. Not a big collection, most are on my hard drive at home. Still, hate when photos first need to be downloaded before viewing them on full resolution.

My iPads normally have at least 512GB storage but this is not an option here which I don't understand. They make ads for photographers connecting the DLSR with the iPad mini 6, loading photos full res on it and also editing photos, videos, music on it but then limit storage to 256GB? Strange ads.

Plus they can produce a limited amount of Mini 6 with 512GB storage, so it wouldn't cost them that much to produce some 512GB storage Minis. Apple makes so much money with upgraded storage but don't give us an option here. Really strange. No 512GB on iPad Air 4 I understand because it is a direct Pro 11 competitor. But the Mini is not a competitor for a Pro 11.

Finally! I can't believe they didn't cheap out on it. A15, new cameras and all. Buying this instead of the iPhone 13. I'll keep my 12 and wait for the 14. First time in many years I haven't upgraded to the new iPhone.
Great choice. Same thing I'm doing. Iphone 13 just not worth it for me.

Seriously, I think there's some serious overlap between these two. To wit, a lot of people have a 12.9 Pro for heavy work and multitasking, and then they want another iPad for portability. Before the Mini 6, their main options were either the 11" Pro or the Mini 5 or regular iPad 8. Here are some of the factors that influence that decision:

- Desire to share the same Apple Pencil 2 between bigger and smaller iPads.
- Desire for portability that the 12.9 doesn't have.
- Wanting a modern all-screen design.
- Affordability.

Before the Mini 6, any choice involved major tradeoffs.

If you went for the 11" Pro as a second iPad, you got the all-screen design and got to swap your Pencil 2 between the 12.9 and the 11, but you lost out on portability and affordability.

If you went for the Mini 5, you got a small form factor, but you gave up the all-screen design and had to buy a separate Apple Pencil 1.

With the Mini 6 as a second iPad (companion to the 12.9), you get closer to having the best of both worlds, albeit with a few compromises (e.g. lacking ProMotion and FaceID).

Gotta completely agree here, but would go even further. In my case the mini 6 is a direct replacement for the 2018 11” Pro I have now, not taking the 12.9” into account. It’s a companion device for my M1 Mac mini, not another iPad, and my main portable personal computer. Also will replace the 11” Pro as a companion work machine in a finance department work setting alongside an M1 MacBook Air.

On paper, the new Mini 6 is just as capable as the 2018/20 Pro’s, if not more so, and definitely more capable than the Air 4, which you forgot to include in your comparison above. In fact, I said on here months ago that if they made the next Mini a smaller version of the Air 4 that would be perfect for my use case (heavy, large complicated spreadsheet use across multiple tabs simultaneously in the browser, as well as video editing in Luma And iMovie). Well they basically made a supercharged version of the Air 4 in a smaller package, so outdid even what I had hoped for by giving it the Centerstage front camera and the higher spec’d A15 variant, so if I didn’t get this immediately on pre-order, I’d just be blowing smoke! ?.

I don’t even know what the Air 4 is doing there now in the lineup. Its too expensive for what it is. Apple should’ve just silently upgraded it with the front camera and the A15 chip to give it parity and justify its $100 premium for the bigger screen size over the mini. That’s its only “advantage” over the Mini 6 now.

If you are into the smallest and most portable devices like I am, there isn’t even a discussion.

Now I will be commuting and traveling for work with the M1 MBA and Mini 6 in my briefcase and the 12 mini in my pocket! Just wish they would have revived the 12” MB with the M1, that would have been sweet.

This is an excellent thought. If I didn't already have an 11", I would ideally have 12.9" and a Mini 6.

I will instead have my 11" with the Mini 6, at least for now, which I think will be almost as great.

I totally agree. They surpassed my expectations. It’s almost like, you know, they made the machine that they themselves would want to use.

And remember that there were some really ugly rumours about the next Mini floating around the interwebs just a month or two ago. Stuff about an all screen design, but with a home button in the middle of the display, or about retaining the old bezels and home button.

Thank God those rumours were just smoke.

I’d still love a Mini Pro with all the pro features in a smaller package. But the Mini 6 as it is, being basically an iPad Air Mini, is better than I hoped.

The mini is a great device for musicians especially. It's more like the size of an instrument now. I imagine a lot of creative fields will find getting the 256GB as a worthwhile upgrade. Super excited to get mine.

Yeah agree.

But I think a Mini Pro would somehow defeat the purpose. I think the way the Mini 6 is now is almost perfect for it's usage. It is lightweight and small and quite thin BECAUSE it isn't a Pro device. I mean it is 8.3 inches device, weights a little over 290g. The new iPhone 13 Pro Max is 6.7 inches and weights 236g. Not that much lighter anymore as a phone!!!!
Pro features would make it thicker and heavier again. Maybe in such a tiny device this still would be ok. Still, now it really is lightweight for a tablet this size, and small too. And I don't want very small bezels because you can't use it convenient anymore because your fingers would always come in the way or block some part of the display. The way it is now to me is perfect. And I love Apple's LCD panels. Yeah, sometimes a little color shading/shifting (?) but besides that they are top quality. There is some stuff that would make it even more perfect to me, as a traveler almost full time. Face ID maybe, definitely higher storage like 512GB, an Apple Keyboard, Wifi 6E and newer 5G chip, more RAM maybe. But some of that will come with the next generation then. So atm I am so happy. But of course everyone is different. But I don't see the Mini as a pro device. Too small for that. But more storage would definitely make many people happy. As artist, musicians, travelers etc.

BTW, the 256GB variants are almost all sold out, with 4-6 weeks shipping dates. Only some 64GB storage sizes are still available for 24th.
