How much bigger is the pro max vs the XS max? I currently use that now

I’m getting tired of always carrying a huge phone, so I’m going from an 11 Pro Max to the smaller 12 Pro. As much as I’d like to have the BEST iPhone camera, I know that the 12 Pro camera is still BETTER than what I have now.
Thinking of doing the same... Wish the Pro Max was at least coming out while I am in my 14-day return window so I could make the decision having them side by side (without waiting until 11/13 and risking the phones not being available until January)

Thanks, but I wish I could see a side by side comparison, not sure if i want it so big or just go with the normal 12 Pro

I think it's a very bad idea that they decided to give the max additional features. I predict a lot of max models being sold and not very many normal pro models.

Other than the optical zoom being 5x range instead of 4x range, I dont see what else it offers other than size/battery.

I'm getting the 12 Pro. I went from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone X. I only got the 7 Plus because of the dual camera system. I hated the larger size and was so happy the X had the dual cameras still. I've had my X 3 years and its finally time to upgrade and since I love taking photos and don't always have my DSLR with me, I'm going with the 12 Pro in Gold. The Max will most likely be too big for me like the 7 Plus.

I'm a little confused. There are 3 lenses. Ultra-wide (0.5), normal (1.0) and telephoto (2.0). But it seems now they are saying the zoom begins at 0.5 instead of the 1.0, which would then make the telephoto 4x...HOWEVER, the telephoto on the 12 Pro is the same focal length at 4x than it is on the 11 Pro 2x...same lens right? So ONLY the telephoto lens has really gained any focal length...from 2.0 to 2.5?

Man I'm conflicted on getting the Pro or Pro Max, I currently use the XS Max and i've gotten use to the 6.5 screen, but 6.7 seems like a big mother, not sure what to do....

I don't exactly like being a Returner, but I am probably going to order the Pro on Friday. When it comes I will compare it to my Pro Max. If I miss the bigger screen, or if the Pro isn't that much easier to use and hold, then I'll return it and order a Pro Max when that's available because I really would like the best camera system. If I love the 6.1" I'll keep it and send in my Pro Max, ending my iUP.

Put four quarters on top of your xs max. See if the increase snaps your arm off or not. Then you’ll have your answer about how much the weight increase will impact you.

Bigger issue is the weight in my pockets. Four quarters isn’t horrible but it’s four quarters too many.

I think i'll end up going for the Max

Comparing it next to the Pro it looks significantly smaller than the XS Max that I currently use.. Plus the battery life on the Max seems better.

Man they are really killing me I almost was tempted to deal with the large size for the camera improvements, but then I saw that they made it even bigger.

I'm honestly considering dropping pro all together for this year but I am going to keep thinking about my use cases and decide Just before pre orders. Right now I am leaning toward Blue 12 Pro 256.

I would of loved it if they had kept the same size of the XS max but it is what it is. I don't want to sacrifice a better camera just to get a smaller phone

Had the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Loved it. Then lost it and got the iPhone 11. Learned to live with it, love it now.

Seems like I'll be pre-ordering the blue 12 Pro on Friday. I don't want the extra heft and as someone else mentioned, the other features on the Pro Max sound nice on paper but I doubt I'd see a difference.

Same here, but I'm upgrading from an 8 Plus to the 12 Pro. My biggest factor in wanting to upgrade is I got tired of the large 8 Plus size (reason 1) and wanting better pictures when I don't have my DSLR with me (reason 2). Obviously I want the best pics as possible, but getting the 12 Pro Max defeats the purpose of upgrading. The pictures on the 12 Pro will be much much better than on my current 8 Plus.

Anyone with a XS or 11/11 Pro wanting the new cameras on the 12 Pro Max but not wanting the large Pro Max size can just wait until the 2021 iPhone as early rumors already say that the 12 Pro Max cameras are coming to the rest of the lineup. I would wait, but I cannot stay a year longer with my 8 Plus.

I currently have the iPhone 11 Pro Max. It’s a great phone but It often sticks out of my pocket and I feel like every iteration of the max gets heavier. When I found out the Max version of the 12 was bigger and heavier I decided this time around that I am opting for the 12 Pro. I’ve always admired the XR and 11 size because I feel like it hits the sweet spot in the hand. The technical difference between the Pro and Pro Max are negligible and honestly since I’m a photographer and always carry some form of camera I don’t really use the iPhone camera that much so the minor spec differences don’t really matter to me. So I’m downsizing to the 12 Pro.

I hate to wait, but I’m going Pro Max. I would notice the decrease in size to the Pro and would regret it. I sometimes do want a little more headroom when taking certain screenshots so the 12 Pro Max would solve that. Plus, I want the better camera with the better image stabilization.

I’ll mark my calendar for November 6th and enjoy the first wave pre-order frenzy this Friday.

I'm getting a Max to replace my XS Max. I was contemplating trading it in last year and broke the screen 3 weeks before the new ones were released. So I'll very happily pick up a new one this year. Going off what I'm currently using, I'll stay with the 256GB option and will get the blue no matter how long the wait. I've had a broken screen for over a year. Waiting a little longer won't kill me.
