I have an Apple silicone case and I have yet to see any ring with MagSafe. However, I never let my battery get even close to low, so fast charging is never engaged, which is what I think makes the phone get hot and leave a mark.
Nope i charge from 50% up, still does it on apples case and ob's too, not the sheath for some reason.

I certainly don't think it's a gimmick. It's Apple's first generation product that will lead to at least 1 portless phone option in 2021. I've had one since it's release and have not yet experienced any overheating. I use mostly to charge overnight, so it's connected for at least 8 hours daily. No marks on any case yet either. I'm not doubting that some are having issues, but mine is working as intended.
it's not overheating it just gets hot, you dont have apples or ob's cases then.

Really happy with the Rugged Shield. Good tight fit, excellent in hand traction and even stays in place on fabric when I put it on my thigh to do something else. No fingerprints at all, full camera surround but still lays solidly flat on its back... no wobble. Slamboy certified. Have yet to have a single corner pop out incident.

You can get these for a little over $8.00 on eBay or a little more on Amazon.

Who makes them? Looks good. MagSafe compatible?

These are MagPul copies and they have been fantastic on past phones. I still need to order one for the 12PM  It's been in my Amazon cart forever.

It's far from a gimmick, especially when it comes to car mounts.

How long has it been available?

And I never knew holding and securing your phone was a useless feature.

I don't have MagSafe so cannot answer on that. Doesn't have the ring insert you see in other cases, fwiw.

It's a Chinese Magpul take-off that a number of sellers will call their own, but it's just the Rugged Shield. Cheaper on eBay than Amazon, but Amazon returns are easier and I got an included screen protector with it from there.

It's really excellent on my Mini. I have one for the 12 I need to return that looks good but I don't have that model to try. The fit is more solid than the Magpul was on the 6/7/8 because of the flat vs rounded edge, and that's saying a lot. I think I could sling this thing down my driveway with no worries for my Mini.

I'm done hunting around for cases.

After all the faffing around, saying I'm coming away from Apple's leather cases, and leather cases in general. I am back to an Apple leather case, in black; classic look.

I really struggle to be happy with how a case fits and feels unless it's one of Apple's.
The wax layer seems to have worn off a lot quicker on my black leather case compared to when I had a Baltic blue one

I'm still waiting for my impact case from Casetify. I do need military grade drop protection and with pleasant aesthetics.

I agree with this. Been rocking my apple silicone since I got it and been very content. Although I might try a Spigen thin fit now that other colors are out.

I think I might be joining the same boat as you. I’m currently back in a Sheath because someone mentioned the case itself leaves an imprint on the phone, so I got concerned, but I’m really missing the premium feel the Apple leather case has. I have a Cyrill Color Brick arriving soon, so I’m going to give that a chance. From everything I’ve read, most agree that the case might be perfect except for one flaw: it’s a fingerprint/smudge magnet. If I can’t deal with that, I’m going to exclusively use the Apple leather case going forward.
