Update:

I have now asked PITAKA to send me a replacement for my MagEZ 5 Moonrise Case. Sadly it has some manufacturing defect that became visible in better light. It looked like scratches at first, but it seems to be a layer deeper. Almost looks like the color is just missing

Will see how they react to it. But considering the price, i expect good service.

Tried to catch it on Photo

You can barely see it in real life. Invisible at 30cm distance. Noticeable at 20cm, if you know what to look for.
Impossible to see on a picture without zooming in.

But what has been seen can not be unseen. And they are charging $70 for these, which is in the price region of high quality leather cases.

The MagEZ4 one does not have any such issues and no scratches after a month of usage.
This one hasn't even left the house, since i'm currently sick at home.

Ok so right now I’m currently holding my phone typing this at very comfortable 38cm.

At a comfortable 38cm I turn my phone over on the side.

Geez are you really using and looking at your phone in the case at 20cm?

When I get a case I don’t look at it at 20cm geez.

Benks MagClap Mist arrived today and it's pretty nice.

A little slippy at first but has gripped up pretty much straight away, the Armor Pro was the same so know it's not an issue.
Buttons are typically for Benks, sooo good! Easy to press and clicky and look superb.

The back looks good and feels even better. Now I had this case on an iPhone 2 or 3 years ago and the back was horrendous for fingermarks but not a thing on this one after pawing it loads. Maybe my hands aren't greasy at the mo but I'll report back if this changes. Initial signs are good though.

If the back stays clean it'll probably displace the Benks Armor Pro as my top case. Looks wise the Armor Pro is king though, shame aramid is mark magnet.

Does that back have that soft touch finish? This case kind of looks like the Torras one.

Those that have the Sheath with the condom ring. I haven’t seen 1 pic in natural or regular light. Most pics I see are exposed light and showing the case at a slopped angle and zoomed in.

Let’s see some pics in natural and regular light and not at a slopped angle without zooming in. Just natural.
If the light hits it right I can see the MagSafe indentation defect from across the room. On the worst case that I had I could also feel it while holding the phone. That’s unacceptable to me, perhaps it’s acceptable to you. It’s really up to each individual to determine what is and isn’t acceptable.

I’m just asking.

What version case were you able to see the c ring defect and what version did you feel the c ring?

I’m not 100% sure how many versions there are. If we’re assuming only two, then the worst one where I could feel the indent was the first version. This new version I recently received is not as bad as the others, but I haven’t used it as much either. I could faintly see the indent after one night on the charger, it was noticeably worse after the second night, then I took it off the phone, contacted Caudabe, and haven’t used it since.

EDIT: When the replacement case arrives I’m going to charge it with either a cable or a Qi charger to see if the MagSafe charger is exacerbating the issue. I don’t use MagSafe for anything other than charging.

I think I am going to exchange Synthesis for Sheath for the overall softer feel.

I have both and I absolutely love the softer feel of the sheath and form factor to it and the new updated buttons are great but the “condom ring” as everyone calls it here is a major disappointment. It’s hard for me to look past it.

When I swap back to the Synth it’s always refreshing to no longer see such a flaw as the back is a hard shell which prevents the “condom ring” and the fit of the Synth is just spectacular and a lot of people complain about needing a crow bar to remove imo it’s not that difficult to remove and I actually love the fact that it’s tight fitting.

If the one major flaw of the Sheath doesn’t bother you than yea you’ll love it but for me it’s really hard to look past it and to completely replace the Synth with it isn’t something I could do, I get burnt out of looking at the c ring. I go back and forth.

You won't be happy next year as the Synthesis is adding the felt lining. Incoming indentation and more weight.

Is the c ring really that bad to consider it a major flaw? I am not a MagSafe power user and only use a Popsocket PopGrip round occasionally.

I can’t see having both cases, prefer the softer feel and form factor of the Sheath, so leaning towards exchanging the Synthesis for it. The buttons aren’t terrible on the Synthesis, but they could be better and we know they are better on the Sheath.

I think cause of the nature of the Synthesis and materials you won’t get a condom ring even with felt lining.
Agreed, the hard poly back plate should prevent the indentation. It won’t prevent MagSafe scratches though.

I’m tired of seeing the MagSafe ring on all of my cases (either an indent like on the Sheath or surface scratches on everything else), so I’m going to try a Qi charger and/or cable for charging. I don’t use MagSafe for anything other than charging.

Kind of looks like the Torras but with metal buttons ;)

Think I'll dig this Torras out later today.

It’s highly subjective, but I would think for many of the case fanatics on this thread—who are likely to be detailed oriented individuals—it probably ranks as a major flaw.

The irony is that Caudabe’s tagline is “Minimalist Perfection”.

So my replacement Sheath came today. Finally, finally it’s a good case. The buttons are clicky and responsive well and that was the missing piece for me.

My top 2 are now the Caudabe Sheath and the Otterbox Core. Sheath is much slimmer but I really have enjoyed the Core for the last week or so, so will probably alternate between the 2.
