I totally agree with many people in this thread: 12" bezel-less would be perfect. The 10.5 is too small and the 12.9 is too big.
I don't know what to do really.
I would get both but then, when you travel- wich one do you bring ...

I waited for the release to see if the rumors were true that they were going IP67 or 68 on this iteration. I was thrilled at the idea of the 10.5" to compete with the Windows products. But when I actually looked at it in person, it really didn't look THAT different than the 9.7. Not enough to justify the price difference. I got the 12.9 strictly based on larger working surface. And that purchase I'm having a bit of a time adjusting too LOL.

I'm still debating the ASK keyboard, for some reason i still like the keyboard on my iMac and MacBook Pro (2011) maybe it's just a learning curve with the ASK and something i should just take the plunge with and get "use to it" with IOS 11 coming up it's going to make the iPad Pro more productive anyway, i'm just not sure if i would use the ASK enough, at the moment i multitask on my iPad, split screen, picture in picture and so on and it is great for that.

Also does anyone know how long Apple keep reserved stock for? i plan on reserving a new iPad Pro in a couple of months for in store pick up but i was just wondering if i try and reserve the night before i go to my nearest Apple store (which is miles away hence why i'm waiting until i go on a birthday shopping trip with friends to pick one up) will it be available for pick up any time the next day or do they give you a time slot?

I got the 12.9 and was surprised that they are sold out in the stores near me. I thought everybody would go for the 10.5. The 12.9 seems very big and sometimes I think too big, but then as soon as I use Split View or use the apple pencil for drawing or photo editing etc. then I am glad I went for the larger size. However, I can't see me taking it outside of the house on holiday with me, so for that situation I think a 10.5 is the better option. Tempted to additionally get a 10.5 but when you've worked on the 12.9 for a while then the 10.5 seems a lot smaller to me.

Keyboard preferences are highly subjective. The 12.9 ASK is my absolute favorite keyboard. period. It knocked the Surface TypeCover out of that top spot. But then again, I've been using mechanical keyboards for 40+ years and prefer keys with less resistance which allow me to type faster with less fatigue.

If you are unsure about the ASK then wait. Wait until iOS 11 drops and see how jarring it is to have splitwindow going and having 1/3 of the screen taken up by the onscreen keyboard. You'll do a burn-out out of your driveway as you head to the nearest store that has the ASK in stock. LOL :)

LOL :) I didn't buy the ASK with my first gen 12.9" iPad Pro and I've been wondering about it for a while. iOS 11 is going to make the iPad Pro much more productive I can see that already from what Apple announced at WWDC.

On my current iPad Pro I'm using the back cover and Smart Cover from Apple which I find to be very durable, since I've had then on my iPad Pro since it arrived in late November 2015 and they haven't torn, broke or even got many marks on them, can the same be said for the ASK keyboards?

Different people will have different experiences, but I've been using the ASK practically daily since March 2016. It hasn't torn, broke, nor any marks on it. It is in as good a shape as the SC that I have for it (but don't use as often).

I am absolutely in love with my 10.5" iPP. The thought of changing to the 12.9" has crossed my mind (and still mildly playing on it) as I would find it easier to use the Apple Pencil and take notes in landscape mode. But portability would suffer.

10.5 has the advantage of being productive and portable. 12.9, although highly productive, is just not portable. Personally, I'd like both.

On a side note, does anyone know of a similar product to the Apple Smart Keyboard, but one that doesn't have the bump when closed?

I have gone back and forth weighing the 12.9 and 10.5 that my head is now spinning. Damn you, Apple. :)

No doubting the ASK will add weight. Ever think of the Magic keyboard? Since you have gone so long without the ASK that one might work out for situations that you would want a keyboard for typing.

I love mine, I just keep my Pro propped up in landscape with a Smart Cover.

I do have one with my iMac, I've just never used it with my iPad. I might try out the ASK in the Apple Store when I go and if I like it I will see if they have them in stock and get one when I pick up my second gen iPad Pro.

Been comparing sizes in store just to be sure before I buy. The 12.9" is definitely way too big for me. The extra screen real estate is nice, but it's tiring to hold and I just don't need something that large. The 9.7" is definitely seeming outdated-ly small. I'm so glad Apple increased the size to 10.5" and the reduced bezels make it look much more modern. I really think 10.5" is the sweet spot. More screen real estate in a 9.7" body, while still being light and portable. Definitely the perfect balance between productivity and portability imo.

Sounds like 10.5 is the right size for you.

12.9 I think should be used with the Smart Keyboard personally or any Keyboard I guess. Don't think I would like to use my Smart Cover all the time but I didn't with my 9.7..was annoying not having a keyboard.

I am on the same boat.

Waiting for 2018 to either jump into a larger 12-12.5" screen bezel-less or move to 10.5".

So far I think I have been right to avoid de 12.9" (size/weight) and not commit to iPad Pro 9.7" (no ASK)... but I'm ready to jump into a iOS only workflow if the "goldilocks" iPad finally materializes !

Weird thing is I;m using my Apple Pencil daily now to nav on my 12.9 while I barely got much use out of it on my 9.7. Just seems better to nav than just use my finger given the extra screen. Doesn't put as much strain on things.

Just give us a 11.7, with the new design, and i'll get it.
Even with the new design, there is still room for shortening the chin and forehead.

When I hear the word "Pro", I think of a device that will allow me to be productive and complete the tasks necessary of whatever that may be. And I think the 9.7 inch display isn't necessarily a Pro device based on the display size, where as a 10.5/12.9 template seems more appropriate for multitasking and editing.

I used both new iPPs: the 10.5" is much more portable, but I think you would have trouble doing true multitasking on it. The 12.9" is a joy to use. I'm really interested in getting the device to use with the pencil, for note-taking and annotating PDFs. Hard to justify though when you could also "take notes" on a regular laptop :p

I decided on the 12.9 and it was a pretty easy choice. The 12.9 will give me the bigger landscape I’m looking for and portability will still be excellent. I’m 6’4” and the 12.9 is not small in my hands at all. Actually it’s the perfect size for me. This debate will always come up just like the 7 and 7 Plus. To each their own but in the end, if you are bigger than the average person, 12.9 is not too big IMO.

Aside from regardless how tall somebody is or how Large the iPad is, eventually you adapt to it. Most who initially graduate to a larger display, at first it's awkward or cumbersome to adjust to a larger display, but overtime you realize you could never go back to anything smaller than a 12.9 iPad Pro. It also depends on how mobile somebody is and what they want for their convenience.

Size wise it does make sense to me. I went for the 12.9 and a big reason was to sell my macbook to replace that. I don’t think a screen size of 10.5 can replace one’s macbook but I guess everybody is different. Size wise it can take a while to get used to it but for watching youtube/videos and general browsing it’s the best option. Certainly when I have the smart keyboard and the smart cover for when I just want to watch things.

If I am traveling, I prefer something small like 10.5 is fine but when I am at home I will go for big screen 12.9 will be good option.

I suppose no one is really interested in my opinion as a non technical user but here goes. I am retired and use my ipad about 5-6 hours a day mostly consumption but some photo editing,YAY Affinity Photo for iPad. I just like to keep up with the current technology and I keep my grandchildren fairly current with my gifting of my ipad I am replacing. With that said, I chose to order the 12.9" size after the announcement 6/5, rather than the 10.5". My hubby had made me a small laptop stand for my 9.7' ipp that worked well so I didnt hesitate ordering the large size thinking that it would be larger text for my aging eyes. After receiving my 12.9", I am disappointed tho that the text, in Safari, my main use, still seems small on that large screen. I enlarged the text in Settings but that makes no difference anywhere I can tell. Not enough disappointment to return it but sure may consider downgrading size when I replace. Which will be, most likely, as soon as the next ipad refresh, my 17 y.o. Grandaughter is fascinated with my new 12.9"
