There is no need to make mouse support selective to drive sales.

They better not do that - that would be f****** infuriating...

I'm already teetering on the edge as a customer as it is given no new SE or "smaller" flagship and the whole keyboard disaster on MacBooks.

Love my 9.7" iPP, but not compelled in the slightest by anything newer or larger, mainly due to cost.

The 11" Pro pricing I find to be essentially offensive, especially the level of upcharge they still maintain for popping a silly Cellular radio in there.

None of them ever will.

Apple’s a very stubborn and close minded company. What makes perfect sense to us doesn’t to them.

If Apple had any common sense, any iPad that supports iOS13 would get the feature, because there should be no reason why they shouldn't

This is Apple we're talking about.....

They'll restrict it to 4GB + RAM iPads and the apologists will tell us that there is no way the 2GB RAM iPads would have met Apple's 'high standards' for smooth mouse movement...

Cellular is only $150 extra isn’t it? How cheap should it be? I think a cellular iPad is a totally different body design, with antennas built in to it. And a internal, and external SIM card capability. it is NOT anything remotely related to just popping anything in.

A laptop that has a M.2 slot can have cellular capabilities just popped in. And those little cellular M.2 cards lost $250-$400. But you can just “pop them in”

But not an iPad..

Also, the 1ST gen iPad Pro 12.9” is more compelling than your 9.7” Pro because it has double ram available with 4GB soldered on.

So, a 3rd gen iPad Pro or even a 2nd gen is definitely more compelling for sure!

Your either using the power, or your not. And in that case, your 9.7” Pro will work just fine.

But, there are plenty of things that you cannot do on your iPad that a newer iPad would allow you to do.

I can list several things that a 512GB 11” iPad can’t do, and a 1TB 11” iPad can do. So, to say something is not compelling or useless must mean you just do not need or use the power.

I believe in longevity, and iPads last a while, if your 9.7” is suiting your needs. Then that’s great. But, it could be useless to someone else.

Only*** an extra $150?
An "extra" $150 is a lot to me.

You asked about "fair"?
I'd say $69 or so

2GB isn't holding me back or even of note to me at the moment.

I think a reason Apple shy's away from talking about things like RAM is that it's just a spec whore concern to even be worried about it on iPads for all but the most demanding users & usages.

The entire concept of a sealed tablet appliance is to *not* be worried about internals like RAM and let Apple design the product for what they feel it needs to do the job it's designed for.

Anyways - we won't make any headway debating this as I just fundamentally disagree with you on this stuff. It's all good - Cheers

I think Apple will add mouse support at the same time they add a row of physical F-keys (and the apparently popular at MacRumors—ESC key).

Not sure why your replying to my post or your point?

Mouse support wouldn’t affect pencil sales is all that I am saying. People do not draw with mice. The Apple Pencil is primarily for drawing, or I’d own one too. I’m not an artist so I do not own a pencil. But I’d love a mouse.

Early reports indicated this was really intended to be more of an accessibility feature. If they limit something like that to Pro models only, that’d be kind of terrible.

If they release it as an accessibility feature, as has been rumored, I'd find it hard to believe they would restrict the functionality to the Pro models.

If it is an accessibility feature, it will not be limited. I agree 100%.

But if it is a pro developer feature, then it might be limited.

Yes, I agree. According to the rumors it should be accessibility, but we'll see as they could even re-evaluate and change last minute, before WWDC.

With vector drawing programs, a mouse is actually quite useful, for example using the curve tool in Adobe Illustrator

I never supported or suggested the opposite opinion so perhaps you were replying to the wrong post?

There are people who draw with a mouse though.

Mouse support would affect apple pencil sales. Keep dreaming
Not really sure, very few poeple use the pencil as a ponting device, and very few would use the mouse for drawing.... they kinda overlap a bit, but not that much.

iOS 13 Full Bluetooth and USB-C mouse support. But don’t expect it be perfect. I just can’t wait until Logitech updates it App and I can use my Gmouse.

This is my current work around.

My guess is that about two thirds of the pencil customers get it for writing not for drawing.

I hope Apple does add mouse support as an option. But for me, I haven't owned a mouse in 19/20 years. None of my 3 kids have ever used a mouse. The closest to a “mouse” in our home is the trackpad on our MacBooks. We’re so used to the touch interface that using a mouse seems old school. But having the option to use or not use would please everyone.

I’m curious what were you using 20 years ago if not a mouse?
Rollerball/trackball or something?

Trackpads at that time were unbelievably awful

If Apple provides mouse support as an accessibility option, it will be available to all iPads. But if they are going to add mouse support as a feature, I highly doubt they'd make it available to only the 2018 iPad Pros... rather, I think they'd produce a special "Apple Mouse" that will work only on the 2019 iPad Pros.

This would be similar to what they did with the Apple Pencil... and is similar to how Citrix and Jump Desktop can use the Citrix X1 bluetooth mouse (and Swiftpoint GT) only. (specialized bluetooth mouse support)

I just got an 11" iPad Pro. If mouse support is coming, I'm inclined to return it for the 12.9" and use it as my MBP replacement. Would instantly turn the iPad Pro into a productivity powerhouse.

Agree. Mouse support would be a huge improvement when using a keyboard. If they added the ability to have read/write access to external storage and the rumored enhancements to multitasking/multiple instances of a program it would allow me to use the iPad for most of what I do outside of work.
