From my current iPhone7, I would look first at a 5.4” iPhone12. Depending on price, my fallback would be an iPhoneSE2. My petite wife is hanging onto her original iPhoneSE as the absolutely perfect form-factor for her hands. She was quite disappointed the SE2 was larger.

I want the smallest phone possible (I have an iPad as my big screen iOS device), but also the best camera, so only choice is 6.1" Pro. It is too big for me, but... Actually, my only reason to upgrade from my iPhone 7 is the camera.

I don’t really want to make a decision just yet until Apple actually reveals what’s coming with the new camera module. If I don’t see a significant difference then will just stick to my 11 Pro rather than upgrading to 6.1” device.

But camera is one of my main reasons for upgrading as well.

If (big if here) I get it, it'll be the Pro Max. Whatever is the biggest. I don't care about pretty much anything the iPhone will do differently. I'm now hooked on two days worth of moderate use battery life.

I will not be getting this device on release date, that I can say for sure. I've had my fun with a 5G device and it was absurdly terrible. So I'll be taking a wait and see approach.

Probably go Pro Max again.

Really tempting to scale down to the Pro this year.

Had the 6s Plus and now an 8 Plus. If I needed to upgrade, then it would be the iPhone 12, 5.4" model.
Don't need a phablet as it won't fit in any of my pants' pockets and it's also the least expensive.

If the 5.4" has the 120hz display then it is a no-brainer. Otherwise, I'd go with the smallest screen that has a 120hz refresh rate.

But still so many for the 5.4!

I currently have the iPhone XS 5.8 and welcome a more compact and lighter iPhone. Looking at the amazing specs of the 12 5.4 and the differences between Pro and non-Pro now, I just don't care about the Pros anymore, I can wait a few years for features rather than pay an extra AUD$700 for a Pro and it will be too big anyway. I would have bought the 11 or XR if they weren't so big.

120Hz is superficial to me but I'm looking forward to the camera night mode. The 12 5.4 is my instant buy.

Edit: clarifying

A 120hz screen would sway me towards the iPhone 12 Pro, otherwise I'm going for the non pro models. As for the non pro models, I'm going for whatever has the best battery life. If it's close like this year's models (11 Pro vs 11 Pro Max), then I'll go with the smaller 5.4" iPhone 12.

So I know the 5.4" iPhone 12 is comparable to an iPhone 8. I wonder how big the 6.1" iPhone 12 models will be? Are the screen bezels shrinking compared to the 11 Pro's?

I think I’ll hold off on upgrading this year. I’m not a fan of the size/feature combo. I would love to get a 5.4-5.8” PRO phone. I don’t want a phablet to get all of the greatest features. Hopefully, enough people buy the 5.4” so that Apple rethinks their Pro sizes. I’m pretty sure that’s why Apple is making the Pro 6.1”. Seems like they’re basing it off of the XR and 11 sales (both 6.1” phones) because they were the highest selling iPhones in their respective release years. People weren’t buying them because of the screen size. They were buying them because of the price point. If the 5.4” is the entry level, we’ll see the same thing this year. If the 5.4” model does end up being a Pro model, it still won’t sell as well as whatever the lowest priced model this year.

I’m using someone else’s iPhone 11 now and I like the size so I’d probably do the 12Max. My phone is a 6s and I’m holding on to it as long as it works and gets updates. I could see myself using the larger phone instead of an iPad. My iPad died a week ago and the 11 has filled in nicely.

I REALLY want the 5.4” model - I’m more excited for this line of phones than any in a while...but I’ll get the 6.1” Pro because I’m a sheep and will want the “Pro” features.

iAteMyApple ;) I believe this is my first post on macrumors. I just voted for the 5.4" iPhone 12. Smaller is better when it comes to this. ? Can't wait to order it.
