Most likely the the regular 12 5.4”. But I’ll have to look at battery life. If it’s not satisfactory I’ll go with the Max. The pros are just not for me. Although I could afford it, I just can’t see how it is 1.6x as good as the regular one (camera for me really isn’t that big of a deal).
I like to keep my phones until they don’t get updates anymore. I want something that is overkill in terms of battery life so when it eventually degrades, it’s still satisfactory. Currently have a 6s and even with a battery replacement a year and a half ago, it has absolute crap battery life. I can literally see the % drop when doing anything...

Funny how you consider a phone that only lacks the telephoto lens and has a LCD vs the OLED that many can't really see a difference between the two, as 'gimped'.

Bit more than that, I am not going to tell you look up compare on apples site.

If they use PWM, I'm not buying any of them. I like the 5.4-inch size, though.

The one without the PWM torture device, which as they are all going OLED it looks like none of them shamefully. Let’s hope that Apple follows companies like OnePlus and offer a PWM free mode on their displays as I would like to be able to upgrade to a new iPhone going forward and since micro led is a good few years away at least I doubt my 11 can hold on that long, the screen already has a couple of deep scratches which are annoying me.

PWM in and of itself isn't the issue. It's the refresh frequency that causes some folk eye strain etc. A higher frequency PWM controlled OLED should be much more suitable.

6.7" Pro Max.

I Wont do it. I’m at a stop point, I am just annoyed having to carry a phone in my pocket that takes up room and is relatively heavy. (No, I’m not complaining), it’s strictly an observation that annoys me. I want a smaller phone, and my needs have gravitated to the point where I can resort to my iPad/Mac if I need any other content for viewing a larger display.M

It’s unusual for me, because I’ve always opted for the largest smart phone, but I don’t ‘hip holster Carry’ like I used to, and now I realize when you add a case, it adds that much more bulk in your pocket. I’m willing to make the sacrifice for a smaller/more compact iPhone.

Which phone do you currently have?

My first iOS device was an iPod touch 4th gen (3.5"), then the iPhone 5s, then the 6s, then the 8 Plus, so i always upgraded the sizes of each. I got used to the size and weight of the 8 Plus. The 11 Pro Max for example is the same physical size as the 8 Plus, just all-screen. And the 12 Pro Max is only a tiny little bit larger than the 11 Pro Max, that's why i want that 6.7" one. But it can't get much larger than that, that's for sure.

But it's nice that Apple will also do the 5.4", something for everyone.

12 Pro Max. I'm a large screen convert after owning the XS Max. I think if I stop using my phone as much over the years, maybe Apple Glass is the next big thing, I would shift down to a smaller screen. But right now I love it too much, it's not an issue to put in my pocket so I'll stick with it for the next 2 years. The real question is do I go 128gb or 256gb?

Well, there’s two phones, the Max and 8 Plus. [The Plus being my primary work phone.] So the next logical decision for me would be the 5.4 inch iPhone in a smaller footprint. However, I will retain my iPhone 8 Plus as my work phone, but my personal phone I want to be in a smaller form Simply for the ease of caring. I’ve reached the point, where convenience trumps the technological advancements.

I picked the 12 Pro but only because it depends on the hardware between the models and it's all rumors at this time. I plan to keep the phone for at least 3 years so the hardware will play a big role in making a decision.

I am well aware of the differences and other than the display differences, which would include HDR, contrast ratio, and brightness, along with the telephoto lens, there is no other appreciable difference unless you think stainless steel and 2 more meters of water resistance is a big deal.

I'm leaning towards the 12 Pro. Hopefully with the slimmer bezels it won't be too much larger than my current iPhone X.

No question I’m going for 5.4.
I always used to get the best one. From the 3GS I had every iPhone just about but man I’m over big phones so much I bought the old SE and IPhone 7 regular last year to tie me over until the 12. Can’t wait. I wish it had all the goods but Apple wants it in the big phones my loss is their gain

disclaimer: aslong as the battery is solid and better than what I’ve got otherwise why upgrade? Slightly less blurry photos? Lol

I had no idea how much I felt this way until I sold my 11 and got the SE2. It is so refreshing to have a smaller, lightweight phone. I was worried about the screen size because, at 52, my darn eyes are already pathetic, not to mention I've used a larger screen since the 6S. Surprisingly, it hasn't been an issue at all.

I'm gonna get the 5.4 as long as it's not much heavier than the SE2 because I like that I could go back to more screen in a small package. That and I'm gonna give my granddaughter a phone for her birthday at the end of the year anyway - the SE2 will be great for to pass on to her.

Problem is if they were going to fix the PWM stuff either by increasing the frequency or by implementing some kind of DC Dimming mode like OnePlus etc they’d have done it by now, they have had 3 generations of OLED phone now and they know this is a problem for some people.

My only upgrade path now is if they create an iPhone SE in a few years time in an iPhone 11 body with the latest A whatever processor at the time and an LCD screen.

It is a shame that all the manufacturers have jumped on the OLED bandwagon so hard that only the ultra budget devices now are the only devices with LCD’s. Apple were the last real holdout and even they’ve finally bowed to pressure from the competition and reviewers who criticised the LCD of the 11 & XR.

All I am hoping for is for a toggle in iOS accessibility settings that will automatically implement the higher brightness and Adjust white point hack that people are having to do to make the OLED iPhones less torturous for them. At the moment having to manually enable it and mess around with the brightness seems backwards compared to a nice LCD iPhone.

Interestingly enough, the sizes people would buy are distributed equally (at the moment) between the 5,4” iPhone 12 and the 6,1 and 6,7” iPhone Pro models. Almost nobody wants the 6,1” iPhone.
This is MacRumors, though. In the real world, between 6.1" 12 Max (they really should have just called this Plus) and 6.1" 12 Pro, the less expensive device is likely to be a better seller.

I’m afraid that’s the only way, or at least the most commonly used, to dim an OLED screen... but yeah I’m afraid of headaches as well.
Yep. This is my big concern with the 5.4" iPhone 12. Hence, I got the SE 2 now. Will probably try the iPhone 12 and if it doesn't give me migraines, I'll make that my DD. If it does, then I'm going back to the SE 2.

Biggest screen all the way. I honestly wouldn't mind even if they just made the bezels smaller.

Yea with text size increased, I was amazed I could read it much better without it being so big that I could barely fit anything. Just am disappointed with less fitting vertically, especially with a banner email notification. If I press it, the delete choice is off the bottom, so I need to scroll to tap it. Maybe there is a way to reorder the choices or exclude some?
