Finishing up "Call My Agent" (original French Dix pour cent) on Netflix. As is my custom, I watch in French and follow along with the subtitles. It's better that way.
This show has some similarities with shows ranging from Entourage, to Curb Your Enthusiasm and Extras in that its a show-business story, with well-known personalities playing slightly fictionalised versions of themselves. Except this time the actors are all French. Everyone from Juliette Binoche to Gerard Lanvin. Not all the names will be familiar to Brits and Americans.
Good acting, and fascinating to see the way in which the French movie business is subtly, but importantly, different from the US and UK scene. And French women, from the very young to the not-so-young, seem to have a style and charm that is uniquely appealing.
My only "complaint" with the series is that the translation of the title doesn't really work. The English "Call My Agent!" doesn't really do justice to the depth and breadth of the show. Dix Pour Cent ("Ten Per Cent") is much more subtle, and intriguing.
Watch it if: You love France. You love French cinema. Miss it if: You can't be bothered to watch subtitles.
I'll give it a try. I really liked Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood per your recommendations. In German to boot!
