this! currently waiting for season 6 to air and for season 5 to be added to Netflix!

Oh and The 100.

Such a hilarious show. I started a week trial of Hulu Plus just to watch the fifth season. I struggled through all of the advertisements but I seriously couldn't wait.

Starting on Dexter, season 5. Took. A short break from Dexter after season 4 to finish the final season of The Mentalist. Also I'm a few episodes into Cosmos A Spacetime Odyssey , and about half way through Trigun.

Netflix: Making a Murderer.

I remember Steven Avery's original conviction (my family used to regularly sail up to Manitowoc, WI). As well as his release from prison after being exonerated. And then the shock and horror of his conviction for a particularly gruesome murder just a couple of years later. At the time I put it down to the psychosis of a man who'd spent the better part of two decades in the living hell that is Wisconsin's penal system for a crime he didn't commit. It never occurred to me at the time there was much doubt about the murder conviction.

The series strikes a chord with me. Living in Wisconsin the facial physiognomy and accents; the clothes; expressions and habits are all too familiar to me. So too is the plodding; relentless methodicalism of the criminal justice system. Cops (and specifically County Sheriff's Office ones) here are not "corrupt" in the sense of taking bribes or stealing evidence. And they are, in their way, professional in the way in which they follow procedure. But there is a narrowness of mind; an inability to question their internal assumptions; that is sometimes alarming.

Its also a reminder of what an utter "self-licking ice-cream cone" the criminal justice system is in Wisconsin. Pray to God you never fall foul of it. Its bad enough if you are guilty.

Its worse still if you are innocent.

The whole thing is really a mess. The Brendan Dassey stuff is just heartbreaking. I don't know the whole story, but that kid had no idea what he was doing and it cost him everything.

Dexter Seasons 1 & 2 is some of the finest thriller television in my personal viewing history. :)
I finished season 1, I need to put season 2 on my list.

Also, finished Sons of Anarchy season 1. For some reason, I'm not as much a fan of the bad guy shows like this or The Sopranos. Does Sons get any better? At least with Dexter, he does the wrong thing for the right reason, so he's almost a flawed hero.

Right now, binging on El Internado Laguna Negra.

SOA season 1 was OK, but season 2 is better in my opinion. Jax is kind of the opposite of Dexter, by that I mean he tries to do the right thing but ends up doing the wrong thing because of circumstances out of his control. He wants to go legit but there's always something that foils the plan. It's more about loyalty to the club and it's members. I liked it.

I liked Dexter, but after season 4 it kind of "jumped the shark" in my opinion.

It gets a bit slow in the middle, but the final season is really good. Stick with it!

I would not go so far to call Dexter a flawed hero. Just one little flaw, he liked killing people. :) At least he was able to focus on the right people. I was able to watch Sopranos, but Breaking Bad was too negative for me. Yes, it's a subjective judgement. :D

I only watched one season of The Sopranos. I keep thinking when the urge to binge-watch some TV hits me during some summer weekend, I'll resume with The Sopranos but I don't know. The show didn't hold me the way most of The Wire did. On Breaking Bad, I'm not sure I want to watch it.

Right now (well, tomorrow morning) I'm awaiting episode 2 of the final season of Downton Abbey. I buy the seasons from iTunes. PBS doles out the first bunch of episodes weekly lduring January of a season in the USA, but then they finally let you have all the rest around early February. THAT's when I'll briefly be a binge-watcher again. I'm not devastated that the show is ending, but I will miss the run-up to a new season when I'd re-watch a lot of the previous episodes during the early winter. Next November I'd better come up with some good books to read instead, or else a list of movies to watch as a distraction from the gloom of short days.

A sibling suggested Mozart in the Jungle, so I'll soon start watching the first season of that, but just now and then as a coffee break in mid-morning. Now the light is starting to come back in my studio so I'll be in there selecting and cutting fabric most of the time for awhile now. Binge-cutting, to be followed by binge-sewing. TV via the net tends to take a back seat for me this time of year, but I like to follow the ideas these forums offer for books, movies and TV anyway, so thanks again to all of you!

We are behind on Downton Abbey having seen just the first episode. I record it on TiVo. Will probably catch up today.

I'm not sure if I prefer binged to paced watching. I can binge it and it's over or I can pace myself and spread out the enjoyment. Typically, when we watch a show on Netflix, we watch 2 or 3 episodes at a time.

Just finished season one of The Flash last night, which was surprisingly pretty good. That was probably the fastest (no pun intended) I've binged on a season.

Trying to figure out what to take on next, or if I should catch up on season2 of The Flash and wait for season 3 of The 100.
