Rewatched Firefly. It was time again after so many years. Love the series and I’m still not over the whole aired-totally-out-of-order thing. Wrapped it up with Serenity (the movie). The next thing we’ll probably see it the reboot from Disney. I’m not getting my hopes up, as it probably will be a version for kids.

Obi-Wan Kenobi. I know some people have been panning it, but worth watching for the young Princess Leia. Any 10-year old that can steal every scene from Ewan McGregor is just brilliant.
She’s really the only good thing in this show worth watching. The writers should be smacked in the face all day long for the rest of their lives if they even start thinking about writing a single line again.

Seeing Vader ignite a fire, force drag Obi Wan into it to torture him, throwing him away and using the force to blow out that fire was cool... only to see a rebel shoot, ignite the fire again and Vader jumping back like a scared little kid watching the rebels escape. Why didn’t he do the same thing he did 5 seconds ago? Oh, wait… they couldn’t have escaped then. Makes sense.

The latest episode was cringeworthy…
”You have to help me”
”No way, too dangerous, I want nothing to do with it”
”But the empire is evil”
”Yes! They killed my wife. You wanted my help, you GOT my help!”

next scene…
”No way we’re going in there, they’re going to kill us all! Never going to happen!”
”But she’s a kid”
”Ok, let’s go!”

🤮

Say it isn't so...I am starting to hate this lack of originality. Sure there are exceptions like BSG which even outshine the original but some things should be left alone.

Scares the hell out of me!

Stranger Things - It took me 4 episodes to finally agree that I like this new season. I don't want to spoil it but I will say I didn't like the direction it took off in...
Just picking up watching Stranger Things. I grew up in the 70's and 80's so it's a bit nostalgic. The pandimensional monster reminds me of one of my old algebra teachers in high school. The Russian thing was weird, but then again it fit with the times. When Reagan started poking the eye of the Russian bear, we all thought it would end in nuclear war. And frankly it is nice to see Winona Ryder back in the swing of things.

I’d like to see the story continued, but they missed that point (it’s been 20 years). The movie was a nice try, but it jumped too much back and forth for what they probably wanted to develop in the series, that is River controlling her abilities and the alliance/reaver plot. It would have worked over a few seasons, but not in a movie. In addition, killing Wash and Shepard didn’t make sense and was only done because they were hoping for sequels and Tudyk/Glass couldn’t be signed, so they gave them a quick exit.

I don’t know if we need a reboot, but if we get it, it better be on the same level or better. Doubt that will happen, so better leave it alone. The last reboot of a beloved series (The 4400) was a disaster.

For All Mankind...

I was surprised from the first episode. The premise is interesting. 'What if the first manned moon landing was from Russia'.

Oh boy, that opened a whole can o' worms... With a paranoid Dick Nixon, and the ultra-nationalism of the post McCarthy era being whipped to a frenzy, it just goes off running. Like the first landing being a 'crash landing', and the astronauts barely being able to return. Wow... The series isn't perfect, but it has been interesting enough to keep me watching. Especially considering I thought it would be yet another lukewarm overcooked documentary on that time. Interesting. YMMV...

I think my issues are no growth. Characters still getting bullied or looking awkward. Did surviving first 3 seasons mean nothing? And why keep playing a pretend game when you know it’s not pretend? Plus makes no sense for the adults who do know what’s going on not to clue in the ones that don’t. At least the parents.
I believe the growth problem is they actually grew up and are physically different looking then previous seasons, but not characteristically much different. But we've seen a bit of that character growth with trying to resolve dating conflicts.

I don't have a problem with the parents not being clued in. As a kid from the 80's we very much were out of the house the entire day playing, riding bikes, exploring without much oversight, other then I'm going outside!
And I guess the adults who did know were away in Russia.

I'm sure they will tie it together in the next half of S4.

I'm glad they separated Nancy and Jonathan. While Jonathan was as boring as it gets, Nancy really shined this season. Looking back at season 3, I think it was the right thing to do.

I always found historical "what ifs" to be interesting.

Watched it only once, but that's screaming for "The Man in the High Castle". I've really enjoyed it.

I saw a similar themed movie back in the 80s called "Fatherland." It took place in the 1960s. Hitler won the war in Europe and the US and Germany entered into a nuclear armed Cold War instead of the US and USSR. The plot was basically a French woman and a German Nazi attempted to expose the secret of the Holocaust to the world, before a US-German summit between an aged Hitler and US president Joseph P. Kennedy.

I KNOW, RIGHT!!!

What if Columbus HAD sailed around to where he thought he landed. I'm sure it would have ended there, him being eaten. Imagine the next shuttle launch after Challenger failing. Wow... (Given the statistics used during the manufacture and planning of the STS program, they 'needed' more failures)

Imagine Hitler using nuclear weapons. Wow... Then the whole 'Did someone who died potentially give birth to the next Einstein, or Genghis Kahn?' Wow... And, my favorite, if the first lander on Mars DID find life. Intelligent life to boot. 'Hi. Why did you cancel Star Trek? Your War of the Worlds was satire, right? I mean what did we ever do to you?'

Some of that genre lost me quickly, because it's easy to go 'too far', but much of it is pretty amazing.

What if 'man' DID discover faster than light travel? Wow... What if aliens DID visit Earth centuries ago, and we just haven't found their 'Gifts to the inept cavemen' care package yet (but someone did!).

Just finished the first episode of For All Mankind. I like the premise and there's a lot of Star Trek alumni that works on this series. It's a pretty good start and looking forward to seeing more.

Watched Outer Range. Enjoyed it, it's odd, had an almost Twin Peeks kinda vibe to it, with quirkiness and interesting characters, and shooting style.

There hopefully will be a season 2 as where it ended, felt like it just started.

Is it? Despite the bad press, it’s accounting for 0.3% of rooms, so it’s a tiny fraction of their hotel income. It’s still booked out the next 2 months.
I got that from this article which says they aren't booked. But it's from a couple of months ago, so maybe they're doing better now?

Thinking of starting Stranger Things, never seen the show. Will take a while to catch up.
If you grew up in the 1980s or enjoy 80s nostalgia and Steven Spielberg movies, you'll enjoy this. Aside from the modern special effects, it feels like it could have been made 35 years ago. It has a very old school vibe to it. I enjoy it a lot.

I finally got around to finish Yellowjackets season 1. The whole present time / adult plot did nothing for me and felt incredibly boring at times. The past / teenager plot felt better, but started off really slow. It got more interesting when the whole supernatural thing came into play. Overall I think it’s interesting, but way too long. Curious to see where season 2 is going and hopefully they’ll speed things up a little and focus on the relevant parts.
