I finally got around to finish Yellowjackets season 1. The whole present time / adult plot did nothing for me and felt incredibly boring at times. The past / teenager plot felt better, but started off really slow. It got more interesting when the whole supernatural thing came into play. Overall I think it’s interesting, but way too long. Curious to see where season 2 is going and hopefully they’ll speed things up a little and focus on the relevant parts.

Overall I loved Yellowjackets.

But yeah... it felt like it dragged on in some parts.

A possible explanation is that they wrote the original story for one season. But when they got picked up for another season... they had to slow it down to stretch the story over two seasons. (or more!)

I've seen that happen a lot.

And then there's the opposite. Sometimes a series doesn't get picked up for another season... and they have to rush to cram everything into only one season. Or they end it unfinished or unsatisfying.

I'm interested in season two of Yellowjackets. But I'm also worried that it might be boring since they now have to fill 8 more hours to continue telling the same story.

I like what White Lotus is doing. Season one was a 6-episode package that was all wrapped up at the end. But season two will be at another resort altogether. With all new characters. That should be cool.

I'm also curious about season two of Squid Game. Though I heard someone say that the writer had 12 years to write the first season... but only 12 months to write the second season.

So I'm prepared for the possibility of a sophomore slump.

:p

***SPOILERS*** Been watching Obi Wan as a lifelong fan. Very disappointed. The acting from Mcgregor is good, as well as little Leia. The third sister not so much. Seems very out of place. And no way Vader wouldn’t have erased her early with her errors. Also, for me, it really throws off the classic storyline of when Vader/Obi Wan meet up on the Death Star after thirty years and “now, I am the master “. As well as Leia “years ago you served my father in the clone wars“ as opposed to the new storyline “years ago you rescued me from kidnappers, used the force to save me and we escaped Vader and the empire together “. I think they could’ve gone many ways instead of changing the known and loved history. Was hoping for better with this one, but maybe in the last episode it will polish up a little more.

Ok, so I’m into the second episode of season 1 of Stranger Things, good acting I have to say. Good writing, well paced story too. I’ll keep watching it.

Tokyo Vice - was good. Great characters, and setting.

Another series which felt like it just got started, hope there is a season 2.

Loved Tokyo Vice... I hope it gets a second season as it left it open and somewhat on a cliff hanger!!!

Currently working our way through Quantum Leap. One of the wife's favorite TV shows. I didn't realize how many folks were in the series before they made it "big"...

Say it isn't so...I am starting to hate this lack of originality. Sure there are exceptions like BSG which even outshine the original but some things should be left alone.
Yeah, I think with Firefly it's too late for a continuation, too soon for a re-imagination. With BSG the original was so outdated in style that the remake still felt like something totally new. Similar to the Netflix "Lost in Space" remake - not brilliant but not bad and something of a reminder of the early, more serious, days of the original before it turned into campy nonsense.

We're still in an era where Firefly and Buffy (and, of course, Joss Whedon's contributions to the Marvel films) have had a huge influence on the style of film and TV - not to mention several series with more obvious echoes of Firefly, like Killjoys, Dark Matter and - to a certain extent - The Expanse. We could do with some different ideas.... Whedon-esque bathos is fun, but if some is good that doesn't necessarily mean that more is better.

...but, yes - new ideas please! I guess we've seen that with Severance and For All Mankind.

Winona Ryder's performance in Stranger Things is simply stunning. The acting all round is fantastic.

Not really binging because Disney+ only releases 1 episode/week, but I'll see that as nostalgia on how I waited every week for a new episode of ST TNG and ST DS9 in the nineties.

The Orville New Horizons, the spiritual successor to ST TNG.

TOS and TNG were loved for their standalone adventures, where they actually explored. Though in the end, TNG got bogged down in diplomacy and alpha quadrant politics stories. And not everyone is down with the long story arcs of the new Star Treks. However, Strange New Worlds could be the spiritual successor to TOS and TNG - the captains are different, but its the starship Enterprise exploring again. Lower Decks is also standalone, though not everyone likes ST as cartoon (though I personally love it).

Deep Space Nine was always my favorite, but SNW and Lower Decks are creeping up on my favorite STs list.

Love the show. Have you seen the first 2 seasons?

Yes, loved it.
Even when others said that the first season had too much childish humor in it, those people have never seen the IT departments where I work. Childish and dark humor are the only things preventing ITers from going on a killing spree within the companies that they work.

From what I've heard the name change to "The Orville - New Horizon" could be to set-up a complete universe with different series so that they can produce a "New Horizon - [insert space station name]" or "New Horizon - [insert another starship]" series in the future.

Haven't seen SNW and Lower Decks yet.
Loved TNG, my favorite was DS9, VOY was between decent and good, liked TOS (was too much before my time) and ENT.
I really don't like STD, after the first season my saying became "If I have to choose, I'd rather get an STD than watch STD".

Isn't there also another cartoon about some inter dimensional federation starship prototype or is that Lower Decks?

I had avoided Paramount + due to it's poor content. It seems now to be stepping up, with the Bullock/Tatum/Pitt "Lost City" movie (not great) and the Offer, which is excellent. Based on a book by the producer of the Godfather it details all of the complexities of creating the move, which included Mafia issues. In some ways the movie production paralleled the movie itself. Binged the 10 part series in a couple of days.

I never thought of that, interesting. I now some thought the show was cancelled after it lost its platform, luckily finding a new one. I thought it was gone so am so glad it came back.

Lower Decks is Great. I wasn't expecting much considering how bad the rest of current Star Trek is, but LD really impressed me. The writing is great, with well done interesting characters, those 2 things alone put it well above STD.
Haven't seen Strange New Worlds yet, kinda getting a mix impression about it. I've put it on my back burner, we'll get when I get to it.

Really loving the new Iron Chef series on Netflix. Super happy Alton Brown got to host it, as it's obvious from all the interviews he's done that he loves the franchise and was feeling unloved at Food Network. And Kristin Kish as the co-host has been terrific.

Lower Decks is a glorious love letter to Star Trek and I adore it.

I've only seen the first 3 episodes of Strange New Worlds, and it's so good it made me angry - like, you mean, we could have been having Star Trek streaming shows this good all along and Paramount chose not to!?

Waiting, with bated* breath, for the next episode of Dark Winds.
Just finished, after several years, the whole (3-episode) series of Archangel. It was seriously prescient, given the rise of a certain Russian leader.
The new Midwich Cuckoos is also worth watching, even if it is the umpteenth remake of the book.

Tried Becoming Elizabeth, it just got too unreal. Bring back The Spanish Princess.
Tried Harry Wild. It just got too silly. I'm surprised that Jane Seymour got herself signed up for it.

* and that's the proper way to spell it, not 'baited', which always sounded creepy to me...

Star Trek: Prodigy, produced for Nikolodeon, so it skews a bit younger. Though its actually pretty good. And Kate Mulgrew reprises Janeway.

Don't forget, SNW wouldn't be without Discovery. Some people seem upset that Discovery puts women and LGBT face forward, instead of just being background characters. My only real complaint about it is that Burnham does seem like a Mary Sue a lot. But Discovery's crew demogrphics will look a lot more realistic in the distant future than any of the other Treks.

This is true Discovery did intro Captain Pike and crew, might be one of the few things redeemable in that show.

I have no problem with STD trying to put women and LGBT into primary roles, but it's ineffective my view, it's just bad writing and delievery. It doesn't matter if it's part of Star Trek it's just bad entertainment. Also a great example of this is Lower Decks, women, demographics, and well done!

Yep, I'm not saying you specifically are doing it. But if you look ay a lot of other ST discussions, there is a lot of misogyny going on when it comes to Discovery.

I think the bigger issue with Discovery is, like Picard, if you get into serialized format, if you don't like the story arc, then the whole season will seem bad to you. Episodic allows one the luxury of dismissing a single episode you don't like, then loving the next one. A new topic every week. SNW and Lower Decks are the better received shows and its no coicidence they are episodic. Epseically SNW, which is ST at its roots - the USS Enterprise exploring the galaxy. Plus, Pike is so damn likable. Picard you would be afraid of. But Pike is a dude - a guy lower rankers can joke with, he doesn't have a stick up his butt.
