Andromeda (2000 - 2005)

A_77544.jpg

A very good sci-fi series that was filmed in Canada (I'm surprised I never saw it when it was airing).

If you enjoyed Farscape, you should enjoy this show (nothing beats Farscape though :) ).

If you have a Roku, it is on the free Roku channel in the TV section.

Note - Most reviews state that season one and most of two are excellent but that the show goes downhill from there. I would concur that season one has been excellent so far.
Thanks perhaps I'll check it out

Omg! How can you compare to Farscape?

One is an excellent entertaining show. The other is Andromeda!

I'm still in the first season. The stories have been very good and very entertaining so far. From the reviews, it sounds like the show gets worse after season 2.

As far as Farscape, I said that nothing beats it.

That being said, the main character's situation and how he arrived at that point is very similar to the main character on Farscape. The crew is also a small group similar to Farscape although more of them are altruistic.

I found Andomada just to cheesey for my liking.
What I liked about Farscape was the mix of characters. They choose actors who worked well together (so much so that two of them joined SG1!).
Yes it is obviously shot on a tight budget, but who cares? Who needs top of the line CGI, when you have Jim Henderson's creatures!

Just wish it had carried on for longer!

I thought American Gods was already set up for season 2? This isn't the case?

Dang, sorry I missed your post, umm, Merry Christmas :D Anyway, not the case as of the last thing I read, showrunner exits, script concerns over actors not committing, some budget issues, ugh ... hopefully we'll hear something more definitive in the very near future.

Been watching "The Wonder Years"; my introduction to Americana as a kid, and one of my all-time favorite shows. The soundtrack was a smorgasbord of some of the greatest hits from the 60s and 70s.

It is also, IMHO, the greatest will-they/won't-they in TV history.

Black mirror. 5 of 6 episodes down. Not as good as last season.

We only watched USS Callister so far, and that was outstanding :D

S3 was pretty fantastic, some of my favorite episodes of the whole series.

STOS fan here - watched USS Callister (the first Black Mirror I've ever seen). I'm not much a fan of these "dark side" shows.

At least USS Callister had justice at the end and a good ending.

I found interesting that the Virtual Universe Beings ended up being great and interesting after dealing with the adversity of being trapped in that Universe whereas the "outside" counter-parts were still their boring selves (with the exception of that new Progammer - Hero) living in their "Tech Bubbles".

The rest was just too dark.

I also watched that Social Media episode (the one "Majority Rule" S1E7 of The Orville was also based on) and that was a bit dark as well.

I'm afraid to watch anymore episodes - very afraid...

The other seasons were better. The stories would revolve around tech gone bad and some weren’t that far fetched. Most were darker especially my favorite which involved a kid who was forced to rob a bank by a computer hacker. That one was great.

Last one was ok. All in all, not a great season.

I saw on AV club they liked the last episode the least (by a decent margin). Again, we've only watched S4E1 [no spoilers], but here's the ratings for all 6 EPs from AVC, just curious if they kind of mirror your perspective:

A- "USS Callister"
B+ "Arkangel"
B- "Crocodile"
A- "Hang the DJ"
B+ "Metalhead"
C+ "Black Museum"

I saw that BM was the worst reviewed over all. I liked it. Metal head was horrible. I can’t say why without spoilers. Ark angel was just so-so. If you can’t guess how it’s gonna turn out, not exactly plot-wise but theme-wise, then you might like it better. But it was pretty obvious to me. I liked hang a lot. Crocodile was good but didn’t blow me away. Curious to see what u and others think when u catch up.

I am about to start binging on Stargate Atlantis since I haven't seen it yet.

My wife and I binged on all 10 episodes of Valor over the weekend and finished the 10th last night. It is a great show with several plot twists and it doesn't help that the lead actress looks like my wife!

Restarted watching Mr. Robot. One episode in so far. It's a slow show and seems pretty unrealistic. Christian Slater is in the show, and I usually like his work a lot. I'm only familiar with the main, Romy something, through his role in the last season of 24 which I reluctantly watched. He played some terrorist.
