I think I'm going to go mini, but was really hoping for something a little smaller like my current phone.

I want to see the reviews and what the display scaling will be on 12 Mini vs 12 vs X. If 12 Mini shows the same amount of info as the X, I am almost sold... but I’m also intrigued by the size reduction of 12 vs 11 (11 was too thick, heavy and had that terrible DPI).

In any case, this year is a great time to upgrade your iPhone. Really spoiled for choice, with the entire 12 range really stellar.

What is it about OLED that gives people eyestrain? Have you tried turning down the brightness?

For LCD displays, you can run the PWM in the backlight at really high frequencies (Apple does this in the MacBooks), or even use backlights that don’t require PWM.

For OLED, you have to use PWM to control brightness, and I think there are some limits on how high you can drive the frequency. Turning down brightness can make the flicker worse, not better.

People have become so accustomed to these gigantic slabs that they forget when phones could be used with one hand... in fact, they were designed with that in mind. I lost a lot of respect for Apple when they violated that design principle.

It’s a bit that I don’t see a lot of people use phones two-handed. Hold with one, tap with the other. So I’m not surprised that Apple and others would watch how these devices get used, and build devices based on that. I like using my phone one-handed, so I’ve been hoping for something like the Mini since I got the XS a couple years ago.

I think of it like the headphone jack. People still complain about that going away, but a lot of folks had moved to wireless headphones (or never used headphones) by the time Apple removed it. I’m not surprised it got removed, and I never used it for years. But I totally understand the complaint from folks who have nice headphones.

First iPhone was an iPhone 4 in 2010.

Second iPhone was an iPhone 5c in 2013.

In early 2017 my iPhone 5c was really starting to show its age and it was time to buy a new iPhone, but all of Apple's "new" hardware was way too big for my personal tastes; The iPhone 7 was too big and the iPhone 7 Plus was monstrous.

Thankfully the iPhone SE existed and I gladly snapped it up.

Now the time has come for the iPhone SE to be replaced at the iPhone Mini is perfect substitute. Probably a bit bigger than I'd still prefer, but beggars can't be choosers and whatnot.

It's the first iPhone I've been truly excited for since the iPhone 4. Everything else has been a major "Meh."

Those who buy a Pro 12 will get the best new stuff at the same price as last year, double the storage, and won't have to pay $30 for a T-Mobile or SIM-free model.

Those who buy an iPhone 12 will pay $100 more this year, pay $50 for today's 128 GB, and if with T-Mobile, Sprint, or going unlocked, pay another $30 over the alleged $699/$799 (really $729/$829).

My original SE/64 is shot, so I'll probably get the Mini/128 I've been waiting for (in blue). But the Apple Store prices killed the excitement of the iPhone 12 presentation. I'm waiting to see what T-Mobile stores sell it for.
I’ll go ahead and eat the $30 to get a phone that doesn’t strain my hand when I try to read an ebook.

I’ve got an 11 Pro and admit I was knocked over when they revealed the ability to take RAW photos in the native camera app is coming to the Pro models. But I don’t know when it’s coming. It may not get here until close to the time I’d have planned on upgrading my 11Pro anyway. I’d been planning to upgrade it in 2021 with the 13 Pro.

I also have an SE. It’s sweet but there are a few reasons I am willing to part with it for a mini. After going through a mindset where I was sure I was going to trade my 11Pro for the 12 Pro, I am leaning to keeping my 11Pro as planned originally and getting the mini.

Spending the morning reading on both devices, I was reminded why my carpal tunnel addled wrists aren’t fond of heavy stainless steel framed iPhones.

So, next it will be color choice doing my head in. Celery green or Tidy Bowl Blue? My 11Pro is spinach green so I may get celery to keep it all in the same veggie family. (It’s a good thing I am not tasked with naming phone colors. You’d get some interesting names from me).

But my SE is Product Red. I’d miss that color if I trade it away. But I’m not sure I like the Product Red on the mini the same as on my SE. Decisions decisions.

Of all the new iPhones the mini is the most interesting to me

I have an 8 plus , it’s too big to be handled easily and not much more use than a non plus model in most ways , I really miss my old 6 , that was the form factor I liked most

The Gods have finally answered. Compact phone is back on the menu boys!

I downgraded from XS the moment apple launched the SE 2020. I just can’t stand big phones. I really miss the oled screen though, so my wallet is ready for the mini.

If it came with USB-C, I'd be all over it.

I just adore the iPhone 5 / iPad Pro 11 like design, I'm sure if I had it I'd pick it up all the time just for the sake of picking it up.

Before the announcement I was really looking forward to buying a Mini on launch day to replace my 1st generation iPhone SE but between the price ($729+), the delayed launch and uncertainty of 5G I'm going to hold off until spring and let all you guys be my Guinea Pig. I also think Apple will drop the price back to $699 by then. (although it really should be $649)

From at least back to the days of the original 128K Macintosh, the first iteration of Apple products typically have some significant shortcomings (like multiple swaps to copy a 400K micro-floppy). The second (in this case the 512K Fat Mac) addresses these, and the third (i.e. Mac Plus) is even better.

11 Pro Max owner here. Still don't know why I bought it.

Considering all the 12 phones have nearly the same hardware (Battery and camera only major differences) I am so getting a mini.

~$44 a month vs ~$75 a month.
The most I use the camera for is taking pictures of things I don't feel like breaking out a pen and paper to write down.
LiDAR... another camera thing I don't care about.
Don't need the 512GB option.

Just sucks I have to wait another month for it.
Putting that money toward a home pod mini. Nice little speaker and can finally use home kit away from home.

I think it will also hold better in the hand due to the return of the 90 degree angles on the chassis. It's the most compelling iPhone model in a long long time, it really is... I have the iPhone6s and what a great phone to last 5 years... no Android model I ever had managed that or could that I had previously owned.
Exactly how I feel. My 6s has been a powerhouse and I still love it. That’s why it’s been so hard to let go for 5 yrs, it just works perfectly and does everything I need. The speed is just how it was when I bought it, I’m on iOS 13.7 how awesome is that? It’s been through many iOS’s and works great. My battery health is 86% so still pretty decent.

I’m seriously considering the 12 mini. I need more space my 6s came with 128GB and I have 3 GB left and I’d love to have a better camera lens too. I’d also really enjoy better stereo speakers as the 6s speakers are not so loud. I believe the mini would have better speakers too.

Currently have the iPhone 8 because the iPhone X was too thick, large and heavy.
Very excited about the 12 mini.
My difficulty is that I love photography and really love using my gf's 11 Pro, but she has a purse and I have pockets. I can't imagine stuffing something that large in my pocket.

Not been sooo excited for a new iPhone for many, many years. Actually only 6/6+ and maybe X. A Mini iPhone with almost all flagship specs. To me the Mini is the secret star of the latest generation.

I will buy it as soon as it becomes available for preorder. A flagship specs phone in such a tiny body. Sometimes I love Apple for what they are doing. And we have to honor that.

Was sure to buy 128GB until I read about Dolby Vision 4K HDR 30fps video recording. Now I am not sure anymore, is it worth the extra 110€ for 256GB? I imagine Dolby Vision recording to be very storage consuming.

But just to be sure I will keep my iPhone 11, as I won't get much money for it anymore anyway.

What are the downsides of choosing the 12 mini over the 12 pro? That’s kinda what I’d like to know other than a better camera.

I think also the sales of the Mini will be a gauge for Apple as to who likes smaller phones.

Corporations are notoriously bad at understanding what consumers want even though the Mini doesn't check all the boxes for most of us who want a non-huge phone, if the sales aren't massive, Apple will discontinue the size.

I picked up an old iPod 5G yesterday and reveled at how heavy it was. Imagine how amazing it would be to have modern apple tech inside a case the size of an iPod.

I have not decided when I’ll be updating but I’m pretty sure Mini will be my next one.

With iPhone6‘s redesign I have kind of accepted that an iPhone wasn’t a device to hold in one hand comfortably anymore, so with XS series I went Max without much hesitation, hoping it would become my only portable computer/reader, and I got the Apple Watch to not have to be getting that huge phone out too often.

Things didn’t work out the way I hoped. Hated the aspect ratio for reading and connecting external keyboard for writing was too big of a hassle, so I ended up getting a Kindle and recently an iPad Pro 11.

All I need the phone for now is calls, navigation, camera and a hotspot for my other devices when I don’t have WiFi available. Maybe occasional banking, messaging and information look up. Mini sounds perfect for the job.
