We go through this debate every year. But the data shows fewer people bought iPhone SE than iPhone 5s. When 4.7" models were available, the demand increasingly skewed towards 5.5" models each year.

Today, the iPhone 12 mini and Pro Max are available for pre-order. The Max shows delivery estimates slipping by 3-4 weeks. While the mini is still available for launch day delivery.
The Mini will be just fine without all your negativity!

Kinda hard for folks to prefer smaller displays when the options for them are so limited though.
True, but cultural differences are such that there are huge swaths of the population (Asia, I’m looking at you) who simply prefer big ass phones. It’s a fair bet Apple would have lost a significant share of the market if they had stuck with Steve’s original compact, ergonomic design concept when gigantic Android phablets became a thing, for better or worse. And there are enough accounts of big phone users on this forum who have a hard time sizing down from Plus-size screens, so I suppose market trends bear this out.

I ordered the 12 Mini 128gb Black. I am either going to keep it and return my 12 Pro or if I end up preferring the 12 Pro over it, Dad's Christmas present is done - he wants to replace his 7 with a mini.

I finally made up my mind just a few moments before the apple online store opened and went with the mini. I moved from the XS max which I didn't enjoy, to the iPhone 11 Pro which was ok. We're locked down again but even when I am out and about I don't spend a lot of time staring at my phone. I guess I'm from a different generation that spent most of my life not doing that so the screen size isn't an issue.

I don't think I'll be needing the 20w USB c adapter as I have the 18w USB one from 11 pro. I also won't be bothering with MagSafe because I know how to place my phone on its wireless charger. The wallet seems to be a total waste of time for me too.

I have purchased a spigen clear case as I've dropped my phone quite a few times and it's always been fine in one of those.

When the original SE came out it was already "old" which has been covered in this thread already.
Also we know that some of the components of the Pros are more limited, so I'd fully expect the Max to slip faster. Also early buyers seem to trend towards higher end models.

This is really the first time in quite a while where a small phone is pretty much equal spec wise to it's larger sibling (12 mini vs. 12). The 12 still has some advantages besides screen (battery, a bit faster charging with Mag Safe) whereas the mini does have a price advantage. Other times the devices have been at least close to equally spaced they sold pretty similarly (7 vs 7 Plus and 8 vs 8 Plus). If the 12 mini does not sell well over the year though, it will be harder to argue the case for smaller phones. But I think it will sell well.

I went with the 128 GB black mini. Wanted the 256, but that was another 4 weeks wait (Xfinity Mobile), and I'm impatient, damn it! My current 7 is 128, so I can make it work. Very excited for a new phone after 3.5 years.

Wow. This is so close to my personal situation.

I ordered the 12 Mini 128gb White. I am either going to keep it and return my 12 Pro or if I end up preferring the 12 Pro over it, my backup phone situation is done - I'll replace my 7 with the Mini.

12 Mini 128GB in black with both the black leather and saddle brown cases and a HomePod mini all ordered today. Went smoothly with the Barclays Pre-Approved 0% finance option.

Cannot wait to go back to an iPhone that is small and lightweight.

I ordered the 12 mini 64g and I am trading in my iPhone 8 Plus. All my files are in the cloud and are replicated to an SSD on my Mac mini, so I just do not need a lot of space on my actual devices. I also do not need a big phone screen, so I was really happy when I saw that the "mini" was going to be an option.

The SE (2020) I had was 128 and I could have gotten by with 64GB but, for $50 more I could double my storage and not have to worry about offloading pictures etc. I did the same with the mini.

I totally understand. I looked at my 8 Plus, which is 64G and saw I am only using 31G so I was an easy decision for me. I used the extra $50 for one of those fancy silicone mag safe cases :)

I got a silicone and leather case as well. What I really want is a Apple Smart battery case for the mini. Hopefully, a slimmed down version, so as to not add any real bulk.

I have (had) the leather case for my current 8 Plus and I love it. I am actually not that easy on my stuff and it has held up nice and acquired an interesting, dark patina. It has done an awesome job at protecting the phone in a few drops. I think you will be happy with your choice.

Since I work in front of a computer all day, I do not need a smart batter case, but I do think an option from Apple is long overdue. Especially now with the mag safe charging.
