Are you talking about Marquez, MKBHD? Yeah, but he also said battery life is manageable. He really didn’t have any negative remarks on the battery overall. And he didn’t have it as a reason he wouldn’t use the phone as his daily.
"So I've found battery life on iPhone 12 Mini to be subpar, but manageable." *squint face at the word manageable*.

Yeah okay. Definitely didn't have any 'negative remarks' lol.

I ordered a blue Mini with a Saddle Brown leather case, but now I’m starting to second guess myself and think maybe I should have gone all black (phone and case), like I used to back in the days of smaller iPhones.

What does everyone think about the color options with the Mini?

I have a return started for my 12 pro in and have ordered the mini 128gb black. The 12 pro just feels lopsided, too heavy and too big for me. This is coming from a 11 pro.
This is why I returned my 12 Pro. Also, the display wasn’t as good as the one my daughter got on hers. It made me think I lost out a tiny bit on the display lottery. But mainly, that top heavy phone gave me nerve and joint pain like I couldn’t believe. My 11 Pro is heavy, too, but the better weight distribution is less of a strain on my hand.

I like the 6.1” display size though, so I got a Product Red 12. Sigh... unfortunately I have pwm sensitivity and am not as comfortable on my 12 as I am on my 11Pro (that I haven’t sent out to Apple yet). I could manage it if I had to, but I don’t have to so I won’t. I had a better option:

I decided to trade in my Samsung S20 on my backup line and order the Green Mini 256 GB. I will send back the 12, and keep my 11 Pro. It’s a shame, the display on my 12 is perfect but I’ve got wonky vision. I can still use the display on the mini, but I’ll obviously not be emphasizing use of the display on it.

I am basically going back to my original plan of keeping my 11 Pro and replacing my SE2 with the mini. I did get rid of the SE2, but that was to help my teenager with the purchase of her iPhone.

I prefer to run one line on iOS and one on Android but the fingerprint sensor on the S20 has never worked well for me, to the point I can’t conduct any transactions on it. You don’t realize how important reliable biometric authentication is until you don’t have it. So off it goes.

It’s a pretty pink and I’ll miss looking at it. I will also miss Product Red, but the soothing green was calling to me after the stress of 2020.

Oh the date has slipped so unless I go to the mall, I won’t see my phone until nov 27-December 3rd.

I think some of these haters are seething at the fact that the mini is packed with top specs. that is aimed at mainly at the causal phone user (I am a mini user and will get mine on 13 Nov). So they are finding cons to take a stab at the mini.

I think there will be less hate if the mini was not packed with top specs.

So I am just going to take great pics, enjoy my WhatsApp communications and phone calls with my top of the range iPhone... thanks Apple.

I use my phone instead of a computer for all social media, emailing, online banking, internet surfing, and online shopping. I also like to take pictures with it when I am out and don't want to lug my DSLR around.
The mini will be perfect for that, no reason this phone will be any worse than the bigger ones for any of what I mentioned above.

The two things that would not be the greatest on this phone would be gaming and watching movies. I don't play games on my phone anyway (that is what the computer or gaming consoles are for), and I do watch an occasional 30 or 60 minute TV show on my phone in bed before going to sleep- and that is fine, but I agree that it is not the best size if watching movies regularly.

Edit: on second thought, not even going to entertain you.

Note that the mini uses the same internal resolution as the X (just scaled down a little), meaning that it will display the same screen contents. And you have only to hold it 7% closer to get the same apparent size. ;)
area is distance squared.
you have to hold it square root of 7% closer, which is 2.6% closer.

So all the reviewers who make criticisms and anyone who comments on the battery is a hater.

I used an online angular diameter calculator (in reverse mode to calculate the distance for 5.4” vs. 5.8” for the same angle, and then took the ratio of the distances), so I’m pretty sure that ~7% is correct.

Edit: Now that I think about it, maybe I overcomplicated that and you can simply take the ratio of the diagonals. Yep, via Thales’ theorem that seems to work out.

Good bit

Anyways, my Saddle Brown case is going to be delivered tomorrow and talk about the ultimate tease. And my phone has left Alaska. Seeing as how these reviewers got their devices a week ago, I can only assume that production ended up ahead of what they originally forecasted.

Interesting, you are seeing that yours is en route, and is in Alaska already. Did you order from Apple, or from a carrier?
I ordered right at 5AM on Friday, and mine still says "preparing to ship" on the Apple store app. I have no doubt it will still be here by Friday since that is what it is saying, but it is odd that mine has apparently not even shipped yet.

It’ll say Preparing to Ship through Apple until like midnight on Thursday, ha. Create a UPS My Choice account under your address and it’ll be there under your home deliveries.

I’ve watched most of the video reviews and impressions today. Battery is of course the main concern but as everyone’s usage is different the degree to which the battery is an issue will also be different for everyone.

More than anything I’m struck by the near universal response from everyone who released a video today, that the experience of using the Mini is spectacular. I like how Dieter put it in the Verge review (paraphrasing), that this is a phone adapted to people instead of a phone that demands people adapt to it. I remember the sense of relief I had when I went from using Plus/Max phones since the 6 to the smaller, but still plenty big 5.8” 11 Pro. And now we’ll finally get a top of the line phone intended for regular one handed use. That’s so much more exciting to me than an ever bigger big phone regardless of the camera, and it sounds from the reviews like I’m not the only one who feels that way.

Mine left Shanghai on Nov 7th and is currently in Osaka, Japan. Scheduled delivery is still Nov 13th. Once I get the 12 Mini delivered, the 12 Pro heads back to Apple!

The mini has a bigger battery than the SE 2020. The tech reviewers (and I use that term loosely) don’t have a realistic expectation of use and so they drew focus on and conflation an issue that should have been presented in a balanced and explained approach, which they didn’t do. Most are nothing more than Apple mouthpieces.

The battery life is also quoted by Apple has being better than a brand new battery in the original SE; let alone the very old battery in mine now that doesn’t hold a charge at all anymore :)

I have a new battery in my original SE and it was getting great battery life with iOS 13. Not so with iOS 14. Lol

If Apple is pushing a comparison with the original SE and the mini, I wouldn’t put too much stock in that, as the SE is doing well to keep up with iOS 14, in my opinion. I hope I am happy with the mini as I don’t see myself using my original SE for another year as my daily.
