One thing I’ve noticed and find interesting...

There’s various posts and media reports about how the 12 mini isn’t doing well etc, yet the busiest topics and most common posts on these forums and over on Reddit are regarding the mini device.
Maybe we are the minorities here, while others just bought the 12 and 12 Pros and moving on with their phones and don’t bother to rant here haha.

On my end though, the 256gb 12 Mini is almost sold out everywhere in here on the first release day, while the 12 Pro pacific blue is the most popular during pre-order days according to the store guy.

Time will tell. I believe that as time goes on the percentage of minis will increase as people decide to upgrade. We shall see.

I am struggling to decide, held the mini yesterday, and it is very very good, and feels very premium.

I am coming from an iPhone 11 Pro Max, no need to upgrade, but want to bring the wife into the ecosystem, she loves photography so want to give her my 11, so i am itching to grab a mini for myself.

I just tried it yesterday and what i can tell: This is the perfect ultimate phone for iphone 5, 5s, se lovers. This is how they were supposed to look like.
But the screen felt not so much bigger than my se2020. I couldn't see any possible reasons why would i upgrade to mini. But regular 12 and 12 pro max another story - well worth the upgrade.
If i were you, i would stay with 11 pro max. If the itch would be, then i would pick up regular 12. If going crazy for all money - 12 pro max.

I found it to be funny. Since the release of the news about lower sales for mini, youtube boomed with "12 mini is the best" video along with "why i ditched 12 pro max for 12 mini" in 2 days, every "respectable" youtuber had a video praising 12 mini. This doesn't sound legit.

i must admit, outside of the novelty of the tiny cell, the regular iPhone 12 is really really nice as well.

Pretty typical clickbait topic farming.
At my old job, our PR guy would basically engineer a “story” by commentary on “failed” products, then write a week later under his pseudonym that it was the patrician / enthusiast choice.🤣. Very fake news

I’m still loving my Mini but I’m starting to get feel remorse of not sticking with my 12 Pro. It‘s mostly due to the camera as the portrait shots with the Mini are just not as good, especially in low light.

Damn you Apple. WHY did you have to make it bigger?! That’s what the Max is for!

Sorry for the camera quality (iPad Mini 5)
Here is my fair comparison between iPhone 12 Mini vs iPhone SE 1st gen
I am not that impressed by 12 Mini size, on the opposite of most of people here
Size is really near to the perfection, not too big, not too small, the perfect size, the perfect phone when it comes about specs/design/size and OS!
I think Apple made the best iPhone ever made, sorry bigger and giant iPhone (12/12 Pro/12 Pro Max)
Even more, best smartphone ever made

Hmm dunno if i made the right choice about storage (64 GB)
I restored from my SE save, its taken already an half of maximum storage capacity (30 GB)

I’ve always gone with 64GB, but just got the black mini 128GB. This way I can have all my pics at full resolution. :)

Did i made the wrong choice about storage?
I dont think i m gonna keep this 12 Mini as long as i kept my SE, it will depend of next iPhone (120 hz, Touch ID under screen etc..)

If you don’t like it and still able to return it, then do so. There is no guarantee about current rumors for next years phones, especially the mini. Either keep your old SE until next year, or get something else you will like.

Loved my mini but went back to the 12 pro yesterday.
I enjoyed both phones and found little fault but the extra screen size just won out for me especially on the occasions that I edit photos in Lightroom on my phone.
i could have happily used the mini for a year but the 12 pro won out at the end.
Hope everyone is happy with their choices and I’m happy apple introduced the mini. It certainly is the most interesting iPhone to me this year. I just may have gotten too used to the bigger screen sizes now. The 5.8 11 pro was probably the sweet spot for my eyes and preference.

But the screen felt not so much bigger than my se2020.

If we only look at the screen, the mini’s screen is bigger than any iPhone before Plus, so also including iPhones 6-8 and SE2020. Mini’s screen is a tiny bit more narrow than 6-SE2020, but considerably taller, while the iPhone itself is smaller and much lighter. 🖐

Nothing wrong but still there is no answer how much of free storage is on 64GB version? What is the approx. app size? I saw Garageband about 1.5GB.
I just got my 128gb and the free space before login into my Apple ID was 114gb, if that’s help.

So around 8 hours ago I just got my Black Mini 128gb, and boy I am glad I picked up the black one.
The navy blue tint of the black is really pretty, I like it! Under bright light it is not regular black at all, very distinctive navy blue. Coincidentally I also ordered Navy blue silicon case for it to match my space grey iPad Pro with navy blue smart cover.

While installing the apps, replying to some texts, 1 short call, playing 2 rounds of Clash Royale, quick scrolling Instagram and connecting to my home lightings, the battery went to 20% from initial 65% out from the box in that 8 hours. Almost no screen off, except when I was having dinner for an hour or less.

I can understand now that original iPhone SE (2016) users said this is nothing Mini. It feels almost exactly the same feeling like handling my iPhone 6, except for the taller display and thicker form (which I like more for robustness and greater grip). The 0,5mm narrower screen is not noticeable at all. I am convinced now I wouldn’t want any iPhone bigger than this. I have normal size hands but very slender fingers, so typing with two thumbs have always been natural for me on this sized devices.

On the topic of slow sales record for the Mini, the sales girl at the store said she’s been seeing many regular 12 and Pro Max bought since being launched two days ago in my country. I guess here in Asia people still prefer bigger screen for media consuming. As for me, I even don’t watch Youtube videos on my phone, always go for the iPad or my smart TV for that.

*Edit: And wow! This thing really charges pretty fast. I got 54% top up in half an hour with 18watt charger.

Are you saying that black back isnt really pure black?
I ve noticed black aluminium frames werent completely black but rather having a deeper navy blue tint
For the back, i dont know, at shop, there are too many lights, it was difficult to see the real rendering

I believe so. The frames tells more clearly that it isn’t pure black but has navy blue tint to it. But even though it’s harder to tell for the back, I am sure it is navy blue as well. I can tell this by comparing to my black mouse pad, black iPad’s Magic Keyboard keys and black cables.

But I think it is almost impossible to take real life rendering picture for it without having to tweak the color output.

Just got my iPhone 12 mini - and first impressions are - no regrets! It feels perfect in my hands - and brings just about everything I loved from my previous phone (XS) into a slimmer, lighter form factor. I have no problems with my eyesight, and the screen is totally fine - I can already feel myself adjusting to the new size of the screen even though I never really adjusted to the heavier bulkier feel of my previous phone.

I always get the 256GB version, and the black phone, as I only have one phone for work and home so like to keep everything smart with a black leather case.

It feels weird doing an upgrade which is primarily about the size and feel of the phone, when I'd only had my previous phone for 12 months, but I've known I wanted this phone since the day of its release, and right now I couldn't be more pleased with it. Initially I was worried that I'd really miss the telephoto lens, but having played with the ultrawide lens a few times I can see my self using this as much, or even more than the telephoto lens (not that there will be many large 'group photos' this Christmas.. :()

The only downside right now is that I'd failed to realise that changing from a physical SIM to an eSIM requires my provider to physically post out a QR code (which seems like it kind defeats the whole purpose!) and so I now have to wait an extra '3-5 workings days' i.e until the new year until I can actually use the phone!!

Let's not forget the 12 and 12 Pro were released first, so naturally they will sell better. I speak for myself that I had to hold myself not to get it since I wanted to check out the mini.

At the Apple Store they said they were selling to well, but naturally that's just a data point

I love everything about the mini except battery life. But I’m still keeping it. Will use in rotation with the 11 pro.

Picked a black mini up as a second phone. It’s a nice, solid design with a great build. I definitely am enjoying it but as a heavy user, I wouldn’t be able to have it as a main device.
