What does 3D touch do?

The true reality is that if I dropped my device or ran over any of my phones in my car, I would not expect it to survive unblemished or in case of the car, at all. The mere prospect that they 'might' survive is all very well but I still would have no expectations of such. You'll probably get differ outcome when it's not centered under the wheel. Which would be more realistic.
I'm really liking 3D Touch, can't wait to see how it keeps developing in the future.
battery life on this is insane
I'm still on 72% with taking it off charge at 5am..very happyI havent even gave it a full charge since I have been using it but it does seem very solid right now. If the battery life turns out to be better than the 6+ oh man...lol

It's disappointing to see quite a few comments in the main forum regarding serious lagging and hiccups but I can safely report I'm not seeing any of that on my 6s+. Holy crap this phone is fast! Every action feels nearly instantaneous and Six8 is spot on about TouchID--it's ridiculously fast. I have to make sure to use a finger that's not set up for TouchID if I want to quickly glance lock screen notifications else I won't have the chance.
I really like 3D Touch. It's obviously still in its infancy but it's a vastly superior experience vs. how it's used on the Apple Watch. I don't find some of its application inside apps (specifically Safari and Mail so far) to be that useful--'peeking' at an email really doesn't offer much benefit over just opening it up fully. Same goes for websites, at least in my usage so far. I could see it being more useful for links inside apps like Twitter (which ironically has been updated for 3D Touch but is only applied to the home screen icon--missed opportunity IMO). Using 3D Touch from the home screen though is really useful. I quickly sent messages, made a call, launched my camera into specific functionality (video, selfie, photo), quickly launched podcasts, searched for a specific email message. I'm really hoping third party devs quickly jump on board because there are so much potential here. And no, I've had no problem differentiating between the different levels of pressure for different functions--took just a couple tries for it to become muscle memory.
Still so much to take in on this device--haven't had any serious time to play with the camera but looking forward to it.
So a couple of quick observations from the weekend using my iPhone 6s Plus.
1) Great battery life. First impressions are it is better than the 6 Plus.
2) Feels heavier in the hand but not in a bad way.
3) Camera is fantastic! I will get some shots to post later, But this is a big improvement over the 6 Plus. The camera focuses very fast!
4) 3d Touch takes some getting used to. Right now not all apps have this feature enabled so it does not have full implementation. It is kinda gimmicky as you can get the same results from opening the app and quickly going back.
It almost seems like a "back button" replacement feature.
5) Live Photos is great! But it only works on the device the picture was taken from. You can't message them or email them and have the features follow. They take up a lot of space.
6) The 6s Plus is very fast so far with no lag and stutter. It is a very fast smooth device.
I've had wireless charging on my last two phones and I've yet to use it. Not something I feel is important. I should mention I don't have a desk job.I predicted this is exactly where 3d touch would shine. The peek and pop made little sense to me precisely as you described. But for the ap icons, this is where 3d touch will really make sense. As I said before, it's in some ways ios' answer to home screen widgets; the ability to get access to certain features of the app without actually opening it. This is huge for ios. And as you described, it sounds great.
On a semi related note:
Apple is reporting record sales numbers. And not to jump the gun, but there are rumors that the iPhone 7 may come with new materials that'll feature waterproofing. It won't be all metal. I hope this also means wireless charging.
If all that ends up being true and as 3d touch becomes more widespread, it may be time to go back to the iPhone next year.
Android OEMs will really have to step up in 2016. Apple is (hopefully) closing the hardware feature-gap in the near future.
There are pros and cons to both. On my nightstand i have a Belkin iphone dock and a Samsung wireless charger.I've had wireless charging on my last two phones and I've yet to use it. Not something I feel is important. I should mention I don't have a desk job.

I am not a photographer and the only camera I use is on my phones. I do a lot of hiking and off roading and take a lot of pictures. IMHO the 6s + has a better camera than my 6+ it is replacing. Head to head against my Note 5.... i am not sure yet but i think it will be very close.Did you find the 6splus camera that much better than the regular 6plus? I am seeing no difference. I am actually quite disappointed with the new camera. I am a border line apple fan boy, but the new camera has me considering a Note 5. Just not sure I want to go back to all of the "tweaking" needed to keep Android running smooth. The Note 5 camera seems like a beast though, especially when comparing it to the new 6s plus. Thoughts?

Damn, the durability of the phone! That is really impressive! Those complaining about durability should NOT watch this video... Your heart will be in your mouth.
I guess I will have to take more pictures. At the moment I am not seeing any improvement in the splus camera. I hoping it is close to the Note 5, that would be awesome!
