A DSLR! Old school. What camera exactly are you gonna carry around?

Not sure yet. I was hoping I could just use the iPhone but it doesn't seem like it's going to cut it.

Chances are I'll just be using the camera during our holiday trip (mainly family reunion with some sightseeing on the side). I don't need top of the line and I don't want to spend too much for something that's probably going to gather dust after our trip.

Looking at these options at the moment:
  • refurb Canon T8i + used EF-S 18-135mm
  • refurb Canon M50 Mark II with 15-45mm kit lens + mount adapter + used EF-S 18-135mm
  • Canon R50 + RF-S 18-150mm
  • refurb Canon R7 with RF-S 18-150mm kit lens

60hz phone in 2023 for $1500 AUD is criminal and just taking the pi**

I had a 60Hz iPhone 12 Pro Max for years and now I have a 120Hz iPhone 15 Pro and I can barely tell the difference when it comes to refresh rate. Yes, I notice it - but I don’t understand why this is such a big deal to so many people. It’s slightly better.

I mean, battery life is the single most important feature on a phone. You can’t use yours if it’s dead and having to charge it regularly will degrade battery quickly. High refresh rate and AOD are two things that will kill a battery a lot faster, so if you’re wanting a super light phone with a huge screen, excellent cameras, and ridiculous battery life, the plus is a no brainer. I’m almost tempted to cancel my Pro Max pre-order to get one because who the hell knows when it’s going to come in. Verizon’s tracking system is horrendous.

Silly post. So you send things back based on click-bait day one sensationalism reviews and feel compelled to share your belief in said day one click-bait with us and diss what many of us know from actually using it is a really good phone. Sheesh.
Outstanding.

I prefer the 15 Plus aluminium frame too but I can’t return to a 60hz screen. I like the Max photo too.

thanks for your reply:)
I did not rely solely on the feedback/views of others;

i did buy a 15 pro max first and thoroughly tested it out for myself and wasn’t too impressed…

the 15 plus feels like a better made and thought out device, not like the pro max which seems like it was rushed to market half baked
You are doing the right thing. Im also returning my iPhone 15 pro max 512 Natural T, I’m keeping my XR until they fix all problems, and yes I’m believing there is a problem with the phone. I also believe that they are going to be a lot of upgrades to fix it with trial and error. It might also never get fix. I don’t live with mights, So I’ll keep 1600. In my bank until they do fix it. Why pay to have something giving me problems especially when Apple only gives you 15 days to return. I m not even going to open the box, I already printed the return sticker and I’m slapping it on, so someone who doesn’t believe in others experiences could be the proud owner. But if anyone wants it I’ll sell it for 2100. It will be here Oct 6. Lol. I’m 61 years old and I’m not in a hurry so you younger people should be less in a hurry. All you got is time. Hey I still got the first iPhone that came out in a drawer with its unbreakable case in mint condition. It shows you I have always been an iPhone girl.

I am not no-one and i have made that choice!

Your judgements are entertaining but not founded in reality as I can afford to buy 10 Pro Max phones a week in perpetuity should i so choose!
(Happy to wait for a 16 Pro Max or whatever that is actually an upgrade worth purchasing)
until then the plus will do me fine;

i only upgrade every few years as i actually have a life!

Your opening sentence “No one in their right mind would blah blah ” is a great piece of insight 🥴 thanks web psychologist -

no-one wants to convince you of anything, its not all about you!
You did the right thing. You do what you want. I did so myself. Better times are coming. Some are just discouraging. It’s not like next month when the hype is over we can’t pick it up at the Conner store.

More power to you OP! If you are happy with that decision you don’t have to look for validation from others. Also, don’t let anyone make you feel “bad” or make you feel dumb for going for the normal 15 or plus. It’s a good phone! It’s the great thing about life everyone has different views, opinions and tastes.

I am enjoying my 15 pro max and the issues like durability and heat aren’t that big of deals to me at the moment. For starters, there have been other durability tests other than the one people zone in on ( Jerry Rig Everything) where the 15 pro max faired better. Of course those videos don’t get much attention cause it isn’t click bait material.

The heat issue seems to be software based and a fix is coming. But I personally, haven’t had major heat issues with mine. Also, also person that does do photo and film projects on the side, the new camera updates rock for me.

Pick whichever phone best meets your personal needs or preferences is what I say.

I don’t think the plus gets its due accolades. It’s an awesome device. I’m slowly, but not necessarily surely, considering going with one over my 15 pro or pro max. I know the pros offer superior specs but I wonder if my dominant preference factors are simply weight, battery and screen size. If so, I can’t see a reason not to switch to the plus. I seem to pretty much upgrade every year anyhow so “future proofing” is a non-feature. Fwiw I know it has the “old” chip but I’ve never once thought my 14pm was too slow 🤣.

Because of the experience. Smoothness in animation is big for me as it affects the fundamental way I interact with the OS. I've been using a 144hz display every day and every time I pick up my old phone and look at the unlock animation and the way the a website doesn't follow your finger correctly when scrolling, it just feels wrong.

Oh and I despise the corporate laptop I'm using for work. It has a 720p 60hz display and Intel 11th gen CPU. That CPU was released in 2021 for god sake. A ****ing crime no less.

couod always stick with 14 pro max unless you already got rid of it

I use a 144Hz display everyday also but it is HUGE, unlike my 15+ with a much smaller screen:

to me the smaller screen negates the need for 120hz , am not that interested in slightly smoother animations and always on screen>

these gimmicks are nice marketing tools but @ the end of the day battery life on a mobile device is more beneficial to most consumers...

gimmick to you, must have for me but yeah, congrat on choosing the right product for your needs

as for battery, I'm consistently getting 1 hour/10 percent charge over the weekend, a huge improvement over my old phone and nothing to complain about.

Honestly even if I limited my frame rate to a maximum of 60Hz I’d still want the Pro Max because the Promotion display also goes down to 1hz when the image on the screen is static, whereas as far as I know the 15/15 Plus are locked at a constant 60Hz.

I do think the base iPhones this year are extremely close in features to the Pros. The issue for me is that to get a 256GB Plus, I’m already at $1k. The extra $200 for the PM at that point feels like a no brainer for the additional features. If the Plus were $800 for 256 GB, then I could have seen myself going for the Plus. As it is being so close to feature parity with the Pro Max actually makes the Plus less compelling for me because the price difference doesn’t result in much savings.

I am getting 18+ hours on my 15+ in low power mode, well over double what my old iPhone could do!

18+ hours is crazy, would love have that longevity if I lived in a cave and occasionally had access to an electricity outlet.

oh lord.. lol.. I can easily afford 100 maxes over and over, but choose the 15 plus because its not as heavy and more simple..
Ok I’m jumping in!

I can easily afford exactly 1,000 pro maxes, per week, in per👏pet👏u👏i👏ty!

Edit: I re-did the math and need to revise my estimate to 2-3 pro maxes, per annum, preferably financed at 0%

Considering it tbh. I plan to trade it in, but I have it as of now. The biggest consideration for me is the weight. It’s not bad per se, but I’ve been looking forward to a lighter phone and the curved edges of the 15p/m are a nice touch (pun!). Who knows what will happen in the next few days o_O

Ah, the annual, never was going to keep the Pro Max version, just wanted to play with it, return it, and tell everyone they like the normie phone better all along!
You can set your watch to it along with the *-gate threads.
