I canceled my pro max order and got the 15 Plus. On one hand I’m really glad I did. The Plus is pretty heavy for me as it is so I couldn’t imagine the weight of the Pro Max.

On the other hand, the Plus is still a lot heavier, and bigger in the hand than I realized and I’m wishing I had gotten the 6.1” 15 Pro instead.

I’m tempted to go with the 15 plus.

My 15 pro battery life has been terrible. I updated to 17.1 public beta last night to see if that helps. AOD switched off.

Browsing macrumors on WiFi with promotion turned off, brightness approx 30%, Safari has used 4% battery in less than 15 mins.

Then phone in my pocket for 5 mins and it’s just dropped another 2%. For battery usage it’s showing ‘settings 3m background’.

I must be one of the lucky ones, I've had zero issues with my Pro Max. The only reason I might return it might be to get the Natural Titanium; I love the Blue but worry about the blue scratching off the sides, even if just from the USB cable. While not a big concern, I do plan on keeping this years and like the idea of not having a "coating" on the titanium.

From what I can find, the overheating appears to merely be a software issue that will be fixed; Instagram (and other Facebook apps) appear to be one of the primary culprits. Because I don't have the overheating issue, I have no issue with the battery life -- and if I want my battery life to be closer to the 15 Plus, I can turn off the "extra features" of the Pro like always on display.

As for the JerryRigEverything test, I don't try to bend my phone so it didn't bother me much -- particularly since mine is also always in a case. If I used it naked I might be more concerned. Additionally, Consumer Reports did its normal testing and found no issues -- even with 110 lbs of pressure when trying to bend the phone:

Now, for those that returned their Pro Max, don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to criticize anyone. Everyone has to decide for themselves what they are happy with and what their needs and desires are. For me, I'm grateful I haven't had issues and am happy with my phone; I have zero concerns despite planning to keep my phone for 3+ years.

The plus is a far better looking phone than the pro max and is available in nicer colours. It has a much better design. It’s lighter too. And it doesn’t suffer from heat gate
It "suffers" the same.. from what I’ve read anyone on iOS 17 has had the heat issues because it was caused by software bugs

so got really excited about finally upgrading my iPhone SE 2020 model, ordered the 15 Pro Max in black.......

then all the reviews started scaring me, they get HOT [probably a software fix will have to be implemented to throttle these to alleviate heat issues with processor and titanium rails] and they SCRATCH/SHATTER if you look @ them, and performance wise they are not all that compared to the 14 Pro Max they are replacing>

sure if you wanto shoot video direct to USB SSD it may be a reason to buy one of these new toys.... but for anyone else looking to upgrade from earlier iPhones the 15 Plus is the choice I would and have made, so I sent the "Pro Max" back!!!

very happy with this thing and the battery lasts FOREVER, its lighter than the "Pro Max", the back glass doesn't shatter as easily as the "Pro Max" and the finish doesn't chip off like the new ahem superior "titanium" nor does it want to spontaneously combust with normal use!!!!!

"Pro Max" my *SS !!!

Reviews? Maybe you should have tried some personal experience with it first.
I’ve read all these arguments and childish name callings (toys?) before, they mean little to me.
They get “HOT”. Of course. Every successive processor is going to run hotter and hotter as they continue to get thinner.
Could Apple have done better to keep the heat down and dissipate it, oh yes, I’m sure. But don’t think it’s worth getting this worked up over.

Returned my NTi 15PM with a dead pixel this morning and finally saw the other colors irl and let me tell you….that black 15 plus is kinda fire 🔥 also noticed that the black ti was already so scratched(especially the back glass) while the 15 plus was still in pristine condition…

Didn't exactly return anything just I was deciding between the 15 Pro Max and the 15 Plus this year and was strongly leaning toward the Pro Max. But after reading all these reviews I decided to go for a 15 Plus, black, 256gb.

And it's not about the price difference, which is not a factor for me, but because I genuinely want the Plus more.

There's a difference between heating and overheating mate.
It’s the same issue mate, very few are actually having "overheating". Vast majority are just noticing some heat from the processors being worked hard by software issues.

Any phone can potentially overheat with sustained cpu hit and combined with charging and/or placed in a warm area or under covers. Some thick case materials can contribute to that as well. It’s designed to self regulate though to prevent damage.

You might want to hit a gym.

Have upgraded 5 phones to IOS 17, zero heat issue. 11 to 13 models.
Most 15 pro users don’t have the issue either so who knows what is triggering it for some. But just because you haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean others aren’t. Idk about the 11-13 models you mentioned but like I said I’ve definitely been seeing reports for the 14 and regular 15 model which share the same or similar chip I believe.

It’s the same issue

When you keep reading others' experiences like the following, I can't but wonder it is overheating and not the normal heating that you write about.

"I just got the IPhone 15 Pro today and it’s so hot i can’t even hold it for very long!"

The above was taken from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255147042. The "Me too" button was clicked 2864 times as of today.

If you take the time to go through all the messages there, you can see how big of an issue it is for some Pro and Pro Max users. I have yet to see even 1 report of such overheating with regular 15 and 15 Plus.

I’ve seen them on this very forum, and yeah with a new release the problem will present itself moreso as it gets set up for first time. I know that even on my old X some crappy app updates can make my phone heat up like doordash, I just set it down on a metal pad to help it cool.

I did just get a 15 pro delivered today though and I’ll be finding out firsthand whether it has issues

For the battery life?
Yep. It has the three things I want the most, plus size, dynamic island and the USBC. The battery life is a fantastic icing on the cake.

I will say I personally find the pro's titanium blue absolutely gorgeous and even though I haven't seen any 15s in person I am not too enamored with the pastel colors of the non pros. Thankfully there is a black option which is always a safe bet.

I’m starting to lean your way as well after originally wanting the Pro Max.

I like the idea of the Pro Max but I’m not a gamer who would notice the promotion, or a YouTube creator who would be using the high speed data transfer, and I only use the camera for snapshots of wildlife I see on the trail and other basic photography.

So, I’d be missing the 8 GB of RAM and the button on the side by going with the 15 Plus. But, it’s the less risky option right now. I like Apple, but I don’t believe that they are being transparent in their press releases addressing this issue.

Been using the 15 pro for a few hours now.. hasn’t even gotten warm to the touch. My hands are probably warmer than the phone while using lol. On 17.0 haven’t updated.

The fluidity of iOS 17 on proMotion is something to behold.. it’s really sleek. Also FYI to everyone who thinks it’s just for 120hz or "gamers", not true at all because it also takes advantage of situations where the screen isn’t showing active content and it’ll drop to lower refresh rates (BELOW 60hz) to conserve power.

With that said it’s obviously not a necessity for everyone, if you value battery life above all then I would agree that you might as well go with the non-pro.

regular use DAY 4 since last recharge of iPhone 15+ and charge still shows 36%...

holy macaroni!

What was your previous phone and how many days did that last typically on a single charge?
