Oh, quite unnecessarily hostile then, I assumed you were joking after jokingly saying you’d take a free EV. I wouldn’t turn down a £38k BMW i3 if someone was being generous.
Nothing hostile about it.

I wouldn't want your EV.

I wouldn't want anyone else's EV either.

I don't want an EV, period.

If someone gave me one, I'd just sell it.

As a side note, I wouldn't want any BMW either, electric or otherwise.

So you’re not ‘planning on getting an EV’?

We have no choice here as it’s compulsory in a few years. I watch with interest and like hearing others early experiences, well some, not all. I currently don’t have one and am holding out as long as possible.

BMW’s are decent cars, not for everyone but I’ve been impressed when I’ve owned them.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, no, I don't see myself getting one any time soon.

Even if the only new vehicle you can get is an EV, used gas burners will be available for a long time....probably for as long as I care to drive one.

As for BMWs, wouldn't want one for a number of reasons. In no particular order:

1). They don't seem to come with working turn signals.

2). I wouldn't want to be associated with the brand.

3). I would trash it (inside and out) in short order, destroying any value it had.

4). Repairs and maintenance costs are too high.

I drive a rusted out 16 year old Jeep Wrangler. It it better suits me than any BMW.

1. I use mine. But I’ve seen every car turn without using the indicator. It’s the drivers not the cars fault.
2. Interesting. There are brands that I’m not keen on as well.
3. I get this. I’m very careful with my trips to the tip. But it’s a car not a showroom sitter. I just use the right containers, rubber matts and give it a good valet when I get home.
4. Not the cheapest for sure. But of course a lot less maintenance on any EV.

I’m at an age when I can afford s nice car so I bought one. I’ve driven cheaper alternatives throughout the years, but I prefer German cars.

I could go to a BMW dealer right now and buy any car it has on its lot without financial issue. I just wouldn't ever want to spend my money that way.

If I could buy any new car I wanted, right now, it would be a toss up between a Toyota minivan and a decked out Ford Transit. Sadly, wife isn't interested in either one.

Our next car will probably be a Mazda or a Ford. GM, Rivian and Tesla are all out because they don't come with CarPlay (2024 forward, in the case of GM). I'd consider a Honda too I guess.

That said, the soonest we are likely to buy a car is probably 3 years out. Wife's Buick has less than 80,000 miles on it. My Jeep has 115,000 miles on it. No real need to buy a new vehicle any time soon.

I’ve had a few Ford’s. I don’t think I’ll have another one.
Mazda’s are not bad looking cars.
No CarPlay is a deal breaker for me as well.
I expect I’ll still have my BMW in 3-4 years.

Why do you have such a polarized opinion of EVs?

My recent experience and the reason I purchased a Tesla.

My CTS was 5 years old and just out of warranty. I went to the local Cadillac dealer to trade it in on a new CT5-V Blackwing. They said they would order one but it would take 5 months and come without heated seats and a couple of other things, also the $15k markup over MSRP for a vehicle I wanted custom ordered, so no loss to the dealership, literally put in the order, I pick it up. I said no thank you and called 20+ other Cadillac dealerships within 200 miles of my home. Few, if any had the ability to order what I wanted. I changed my tactic and decided to order the CT5-V twin turbo in black on black all options. They again said it would take 5 months and cost $15k over MSRP, no heated seats, steering wheel controls and some other items that I could get fixed at a later date.

2023 Tesla LR ordered at MSRP, exactly as I wanted it. Easy peasy, took 5 minutes. In 4 or 5 years I may trade it in on a Roadster or pick up a 911 (as long as the dealership gouge practice has ceased).

CarPlay was a big reason I did not purchase a Tesla. After owning one, you don't need it. I can play Apple music with no problem and the Tesla navigation is very well done. GM will keep carplay in gasoline vehicles until 2034, when they plan to be 100% EV.

Maybe we will have a new technology by then. Something cheap and efficient for all. <sarcasm>Something like trains instead of planes.</sarcasm> Europe's train system has completely spoiled me. I love walking to the nearest station, grabbing a coffee, hopping on a train. Much more relaxing than driving to work.

Yeah...I don't think taking a train to 7-11 to buy a slurpie is particularly reasonable.

You wouldn’t say that if you were following the diesel Land Rover I followed to work the other day. I could barely see it for the black smoke billowing out.
Of course that was an older diesel probably in dire need of a service, but it stunk.
Yes, I too have problems with diesel-running engines. I get a terrible headache, too. But in general the indoors air in our homes, and also the air that is not vented inside a vehicle cabin contains more pollutants than fresh air. An air ventilator at home aids removing radon and other chemicals. Fresh air is always cleaner than recirculated air. Well, unless you are driving behind the diesel vehicle you mention above, of course :)

Living in the country I try and get outside for a walk everyday. Clean air is good for the soul and the lungs. But not always the nose if they have been muck spreading!

My Jeep is relatively cheap to maintain.
You say you wouldn't want to be associated with the BMW brand and thats absolutely your prerogative. Jeep isn't a popular brand in Europe, they have a small market, but are one of the rarer brands on our roads. I can't say I have been impressed whenever I have been in one and they certainly lack the refinement you get from a German car. It is all about personal taste though, and American brands have never done particularly well here in Europe over the years. Tesla may break that trend, although I have no interest in ever owning one of those either.

Well, to be fair, I would not particularly want to be associated with Europe either.
