They should have spun it off as a separate brand from BMW for sure. I think VW tried (poorly) to do the same with the ID line.
Agreed
On paper it got the same range as the Nissan Leaf, but cost like 20k more. At least in the US we don't do city cars, even though city cars would fit most people just fine.
In theory, they should do everywhere well. But for some weird reason, the buying public rejects them. Here in the UK as well, the cars all seem to need to look like a suv, eventhough for most they have no 's' nor 'u' capabilities and would cry if they could when they see a bit of grass or muddy field. It is very odd...

I presume it didn't sell well enough (which could also be because it came out too early). How do you feel about the ID.3?
Depends what you read. I think the issue was mostly the i3 was built as a small City car. But was priced higher than that. Plus people found out it’s great for motorways etc.
There was also a lot of talk about the cost to produce them being higher than the price point would suggest. In other words not a great profit margin (especially when you consider the lack of serving for the dealers etc.).
I considered the ID3 as my last car was a Golf.
However the first version was a bit cheap looking inside. I think the new one is an improvement.

Cold here. Most likely a frost in the morning. Just set the climate control to warm the car up for me in the morning. What a great feature that is. Nice defrosted windows and a warm space to get into. All set from the app in the comfort of my lounge.

Yup. Both my Teslas have scheduled pre-conditioning turned on for weekdays. Both are at the desired temp and the batteries are preconditioned by the time we leave. I leave 15 minutes my wife, I see the steam coming off the windows as I leave.

Tesla does preconditioning by GPS location. So we also have it set at work to complete preconditioning by the time we are ready to leave.

Yup, when it gets into the 40s it sure is nice to have the steering wheel, seats and cabin warm ;)

I only go in to the office once or twice a week at the moment. So I just do it ad hoc as I need to. It’s certainly a nice feature.

So tomorrow is the launch of the Tesla cybertruck, it’s an important entry in the US market, will be interesting to see the pricing and how it compares to the Ford and the GM trucks

My guess is that the Silverado EV will tow for a longer distance than the CyberTruck.

Trucks and towing have very little interest to me, but I can imagine this will be of huge interest in the US. Trucks are far less common in Europe. I’d be very surprised if they made a right hand drive version.

probably, and honestly, since I've never owned a truck, I don't even know where the cybertruck fits size-wise, eg like F150/Silverado or Tacoma/Ranger or the likes ... we'll find out tomorrow

in my 30+ years living in California I never wanted to own a truck, but there sure are a lot of them out here and I continue scratching my head when I get passed by a single driver truck on my commute to work, and those are office dwellers, but, to each their own

Given that most other tesla vehicules use EPS (Electric Power Steering) meaning that you do not have to modify the chassis of the vehicle to localize the decreased cost may warrant a release ?

I'd be quite curious to see how they could make it adhere to different road safety conventions, not looking forward to see people with spines severed by the atypical geometry and complete absence of compliance get rushed into ERs.

Not to mention the size being comical on EU roads, I seldom see pick-ups in Switzerland outside of the deep agrarian countryside.

I highly doubt it. Just not enough demand in the UK. As you say the size isn’t exactly going to work well for most situations.

I probably need one 2-3 a year for a tip run. Hardly going to use a tank like that to drive to the office.

Another thing that surprised me was the cost of such vehicles, having always pegged them as utilitarian I'd have expected them to cost around 25-40k, seeing the national sale price average hover around 65k was puzzling to say the least.

I had a '22 Ford F150 Lightning EV for a year until the daily commute drive got to me in So Calif.

Driving in urban Los Angeles was too much of a workload to drive to / from work.

Never towed, never hauled so it was a nice 1 year EV test drive.

Ended up trading her in for a Mustang Mach E and loving it - made for driving in urban traffic.

Why would you not delete your details before selling it? It's like selling an iPhone or Mac without clearing your data first.
You can delete all your info from the car, the problem here is the previous owner has to remove the vehicle from their app.

Some people are just not tech savvy are they? Like when I bought my i3 and the dashcam SD card hadn’t been deleted.

Yes, but it's also somewhat understandable, it hasn't been long since we needed to really treat cars as pieces of technology with all the privacy and security concerns.

I bought a Bolt EUV a few months ago. Other than its slower charging speeds (I'm not planning on any roadtrips anytime soon with it anyway), I think it's probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. The ghost gray color even matches all of my space gray apple stuff.

I just hope it handles well in the northeast winters.

I also have a Bolt EUV as a "subscription rental" because I wanted to try it out before I committed to buying electric. Mostly because I wanted to see how convenient (or not) it would be in my circumstances. Unfortunately, my new apartment building does not have EV chargers so I have to go to one and it's getting pretty crowded so I might be there for up to 2 hours waiting & charging.

I actually really like the car though! It drives well. Pretty decent legroom in the back seat and I love the sunken trunk for extra space. I don't take long trips and I work from home so it's a great get around vehicle. If I had access to a charger in my building, I'd 100% get an EV though.

From my understanding the Cybertruck is smaller than the F150 and I guess the Silverado. But not as small as the R1T.

If I still lived in my old apartment, there's no way I'd be able to keep this EUV. Possibly a different EV with faster charging speeds. I pass by a fast charger on my way to work at a rest stop (unfortunately not on the way home), but that will add an extra hour on to my day and the place this charging station is at is a little shady, especially at 3AM when I'd be going there - I tried it once before I got my Level 2 charger installed in the garage, and I did not feel safe at all. I'm very thankful I can just plug it in at my house.

It's definitely a nice car, I wish I can take it on any potential future road trips, but that charging speed just isn't good enough in comparison to other EVs. That's my only complaint about it, I love everything else!
