The EV market is becoming a lot more competitive and January showed a boost in registrations across Europe apparently. Tesla are supposedly putting their prices up and that is before retaliatory tariffs are brought in which may further affect their sales. I’m seeing a lot more BYD’s and Mercedes EV’s on my commute. I’ve grown to like the newer model 3 Tesla but when my time comes to get an EV, I think there will be a very competitive range of choice. I also don’t fancy contributing to Elon’s ego with my money lol.
Well when I come to replace my EV I’m hoping it’s many years into the future, so who knows. I usually keep a car 5-10 years.
I’m hoping this one goes at least that. By then I’ll be mortgage free and my choices will be easier.

Mind you I’ve had it three years when I think about it. Where did that go?
 
Typical Citroën, oops DS Automobiles, it is a bit out there. At moments, I really like the look of this, and at other times I'm like damn that is ugly. The DS N8 saloon.

Thanks for the link; we in the US are generally unaware of anything Citroën/DS Automobiles. Previous Citroën’s have been decidedly fugly at least by my standards, but I actually like the No.8 appearance, interior, and specs. Long range FWD gets 466 miles of WLTP range…very nice indeed. Pricing is competitive, features are definitely so. Could be popular, and I hope it is. I don’t expect any to get to the US shores though.

Well it is part of Stellantis, so who knows :) I find normal Citroën a bit on the budget side of things, whilst DS is a nicer place to be in and with nicer styling. But I'm old enough to remember DS as a model. But I guess it is like Hyundai/Genesis, Toyota/Lexus etc.

I did configure a N8 as to how I'd want it, damn once you add a few options it gets very expensive very rapidly.

I don’t remember if we discussed it here, but the Lucid Gravity is up for sale here in the US. WAY above my budget as it is a $100k car (Starts at $94k), but it does look nice. I think once I optioned it out it was $115k’ish (7-seater + all tech):

I don’t think anyone will have experienced the Togg outside of Turkey. It’s just not on sale.

Out of the EQB and Seal U, it’s BYD any day. I’ve had a few mercedes’s in my life and don’t like the lower model designations at all. Feel so cheap. And their EV efforts beyond the EQS and EQE are mediocre.

The BYD is on the heals or has taken over as the best selling car. And it’s not bad, best of those three in my opinion. But tastes differ to make a test drive 👍
 
Well, the cars that sale the most aren't the most expensive ones, and most of these buyers care the least about politics, regardless of the car being electric or not. China already has a stronghold of the World EV market, and probably has the larger numbers of "homeland" buyers.

And the reality is that there is more innovation and better technology for most around the world. And even from a geopolitical standpoint, it’s rapidly more acceptable. Funny how things can change so quickly on that field. And also there seem to be more awareness on compliance with local legislation opposed to that arrogance to attempt to strong arm compliance to see it their way.

It’s funny times, but both the Korean and Chinese brands are steaming ahead with innovation. And are matching traditional European quality and luxury standards more and more.

I want one more ICE car before I go electric, my wife will likely continue with electric from now on as long as the benefits of doing so remain in place. Time does fly, we’ve had the Q4 for over 18 months and next year it’ll be time to change. It’s amazing how quickly EV’s are improving since we’ve had ours as it’s already dated in terms of range and the infotainment. We are also losing about 40 miles off the range with this cold weather but we haven’t been going far so it’s not so much of an issue, the furthest we drive is 150ish miles before charging.

We drove up to the NEC in Birmingham a couple of weeks back and booked a space with BP Pulse. Nice setup there apart from it taking 15 mins and 3 different spaces for the app to connect to our car/charger. Reminded me why we do our best to avoid public charging, especially in a hurry 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hehehe that E200 will go forever. But a GLA, nah. We had a GLS63 which was great. And a GLC43 which was rubbish. But having had a Range Rover after the GLS, that is in a totally different class. Mercedes and the EV platform just isn’t that efficient, fast charging, just not that good. And when you go below an E class it looks the same but the materials just aren’t there in quality. From an EV perspective try the BYD and see what you think 👍

I’m off to London on Tuesday for a few days. Unfortunately the hotel I’m staying at doesn’t have EV charging. There was a local one that did, but all 15 odd chargers got taken out by white van man. They were reversing up to them (in their ice vans) to stop people breaking into them.

I did order an Electroverse card as I’ve heard good things about them. They are from Octopus energy and work with all the networks pretty much.

while I am glad Lucid is still around (Fisker, Canoo ...) here it is, another entry in the (US) $100k+ market, unreachable for 99% of potential buyers ;(. I don't follow them so don't really know how they are doing financially.

I agree. It’s out of reach for me.

As I understand it, there is some Saudi investment in there. I keep hearing that they are losing money on the Air. I just assume they are going to lose money on this too.

Ready to go electric? No, far from it actually. Going opposite.

I am getting a 2025 Subaru WRX next month. Higher automatic trim (GT). Japanese made, with a 2.4 liter Turbo Boxer engine, producing 271 HP.

Same exact buying price as the Chinese-made base Tesla Model 3 (without any extras) here in my country (Chile). But here EVs are exempted from paying several taxes. So, the 3 is cheaper in total.

Maybe in 4 or 5 years I will have an EV. Inconvenient at this time.

I test drove a Mercedes EQE back in 2023 and I was shocked how cheap the interior felt with lots of silver painted creaky plastics. I liked the appearance of the car but feel Mercedes lost their away a bit recently and seem to be making obvious cost savings. I owned a Mercedes C200D for a short time pre-covid and the interior was much more solid and as you'd expect from Merc. It was a 1.6D though so a little sluggish and likely had a Renault Megane engine in it lol.

I won't buy an electric car unless it comes with a wide charging network. It takes at least 15 years for charging stations to be at an acceptable level in Turkey. And we do not go to our villages with an electric car. Even tractors ply in rural areas and on rural stretches of highways. While 70s cars are still circulating in our country and powerful engines such as V6 and V8 are still fitted with LPG, I don't think my people will warm up to electric. There are also people who put BMW and Ferrari engines into a car called Fiat Regeta (Tofas) and put an LPG cylinder on it. Also, although there is a speed limit of 130 km on the highway, most cars go at speeds above 200 km and emit black smoke with their diesel engines. If my people use electricity, approximately 5 million people must be unemployed. Among the public, auto industrialists (car repair shops) manage almost the entire new and second-hand market in the country. Approximately 20% of the people buy from dealers only by buying new ones. I gave up on electric

It’s why I asked originally. As I understand your area is a bit more rural. I got some friends around there. And a bit more towards your eastern neighbours as well. It is a different market, and electricity supplies aren’t always as stable.

If it was me I wouldn’t get electric either :) I’d import a diesel Mercedes GLS out of the Netherlands or Germany. 👍
 

Pretty impressive FSD. Apparently they use cameras and Lidar. Competition for FSD will be fierce. The way this car could park in such tight quarters was impressive. Competition is always welcomed.

The cities are developed, but the rural areas are in a very bad condition. I live in southern Turkey, the largest city in the region with a population of 3 million. There is no problem there, but there is a problem when going to my village in Central Anatolia. Now it's snowing all over Türkiye. They should give importance to rural areas rather than cities. The electricity distribution company is a fraud anyway. We, the people, are paying for the illegal consumption of Kurds who use illegal electricity in Southeastern Turkey 😒

Sorry to read this, your country is really beautiful and the people hospitable. I visited many years ago (Anatalya and Cappadocia) and I could see the difference between rural and urban areas.
