Those with at home chargers, 2 car garages . I don’t like the unsightly look of cables flopping and getting in the way of walking around my garage.

How do you handle that?
I’m hoping there’s cables that overhead, on a counterbalance pulley or suspension system. So you can charge and still walk around.

Please post pictures of your home setup.

Another option is a cable retractor, you could probably find on non-EV related to save a bunch of money. You could mount one to the ceiling between the 2 vehicles.


EDIT: I have 2 EV's and a 2 car garage that is more of a 1.75 car garage (2 cars will fit, but you have to put the driver's doors together in the middle). Because if this, we only park one inside. My Wall Connector is near the front of the garage, I plug in my wife's car (parked outside) by running the cable under the garage door. I put 3 pieces of 1/2" wood (free scraps from Home Depot) under the door to prevent the cable from getting pinched. Once her car is finished charging, I bring the cable in and leave mine connected overnight. I use 30-50%% of the battery per day, she used 10%-30%.

So, I do not need a cable management system. But if I did, I would park the vehicle that uses the most battery per day closest to the connector, and start charging the other vehicle first. Once that is complete, I would move it and leave it connected over night. This way, if the other person needs to leave, the cable is out of the way.

I actually took my car to a manual car wash this morning and as I saw the device overhead, it exactly came into my mind a way to route the cable without it being on the ground , I told myself to take a picture, but I forgot so here’s a pictures from the web.

I live in rural America, lotta dirt roads, my garage floors are never pristine clean , never!
Winter time is more so, can’t imagine anyone in similar situation would ever have cables just flipping and flopping in the wetness, the mud and grime, frozen snow chunks , etc.

The garage is for Amazon boxes, our cars stay nicely outside on our driveway.

In my country, garages are too narrow for cars. They are simply storage room.

The premium SUV (Range Rover, BMW, Merc or Audi) is parked on the driveway of their McMansion to show neighbours you are better than them. ;)

It all works brilliantly until someone parks a Rolls Royce on their driveway - or a supercar and then the rumours spread of ill-gotten wealth. Which may be proven if the place is targeted by a drive by shooting.

Such a nice area. ;)

Definitely. We have a 'large' double garage in our UK house. Still only 14 feet (4.27 m) wide, and far too low for the Range Rover I had. Even in access mode. My daughter tends to park her MK2 Golf GTI in it to be fair, and then we have some storage racks around it. Our flat in the Netherlands has underground parking, but requires skills as the places are very narrow. In our house in the Netherlands, I do exactly as what you say 🤣😇. My excuse is that the garage is detached and around the back, put perhaps subconsciously it is to show the neighbours 😇. The official version is that it is just easier, and then I can keep the garage for toys ;)

We built our home in 2002 on 2.5 acres of a private road of 18 other homes.
This was my 2nd home, decided on a 3 1/2 garage with "bonus rafters" for a woodshop above the garage.
Full parking for 2 cars, then the 1 1/2 is for lawnmower, 5 bikes, go kart, stairs to the woodshop, stuff.

What I did not see on the drawings was due to build site elevation the garage was lowered 3 steps from the main home, and a landing was then used. That landing was not on my drwg, so I missed till too late it took away the front 4 feet, so a full size pickup / SUV can't be parked inside. If I knew that, I'd just gotten rafters 4 feet deeper.

I always assumed it was bigger in the states to accommodate the drivers! 😱
 
I do enjoy traveling in Japan and Europe and seeing the roads / driving conditions vs the USA.
Amazed at Japan and scrunching cars into just about every bit possible space.

LOL... yea, I have a lot of boxes in there but I keep enough space for my vehicle.

It amazes me that all around my neighborhood, I see people wasting garage space to store crap they never use and leave their $50K+ car in the driveway exposed to the elements. Worse, is when they park on the sidewalk for their convenience.

I can go better than that. On the way into my village there is a blind bend on a narrow country lane. The house there has only a half off road parking spot. They have an Electric Porsche Taycan. I’d not feel happy parking my wife’s Kia there. They only bought the house a few weeks back.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with that parking situation either.

We’ve twice had drunk drivers come down our street and do a billiard ball bounce off of a few cars before coming to a stop. I try to keep our cars off the street.

In the village where I live I park on the driveway. There would not be room to park in the lane. Nothing would get by. There isn’t any pavement.

It’s a very uk thing to have a driveway and not use it. Even after 27 years I don’t get used to it. I even put it in the delivery notes for a pizza like feel free to use the driveway. Some of our neighbours even have a little chain across it and no turning signs and all sorts. Really weird.

That happened to a friend of mine. He had his V126 S-class (a long wheelbase model) parked out front of his house. Some idiot came along and smashed into the back of it - then drives away.

The camera footage was too poor to see the number plate. That Merc was high mileage (330,000km) but in good condition. :(

He had two other cars in the garage but that day parked in front of house instead of around the side.

Odd, we do use our driveway. It’s just barely wide enough for two cars.

We even use our garage for one of our cars. I can see that other neighbors’ garages are packed with “stuff” that they never access. It seems to be just a packrat nest that consumes the garage and prevent them from using either the garage or the items in it. I don’t understand that as a long term strategy.

A 350kW charger provides up to around 240kW whereas at a SuC it’s limited to a little over 100kW due to the 800V architecture of the IONIQ 5 and V3 SuC being 400V.

Sometimes there are rather large gaps between chargers if you are limited to one type and sometimes a charger you had planned to use may be down. I see it as a Plan B.

I am actually surprised these companies haven't backed out of supporting NACS with all the Tesla hate going on right now.

NACS no longer has anything to do with Tesla. It is an SAE standard called J3400. The move is better for them vs not as it is a far superior plug vs CCS1. Now, if they want to back out of accessing the SuperCharging network, that is a separate issue, one that only hurts their customers as the deal gives them additional options that they can decide themselves if they want to use.
