There are many aspects of my former petrol car I wasn’t happy with.
Gasoline is at least easily repairable. I go to the auto repair shop, my mechanic thanks to him, he buys me food and tea. I waited for 3 hours, but it was worth it. The price was cheap. But in EV, they charged me 400,000 lira. Unfortunately, I sold my electric car for less than its value and got rid of that damn thing. 🙂

It may be different in your location, but depending on the issue I’ve lost the use of my petroleum car for two days and for example a blown engine would be a night mare.

I suspect we could trade anecdotal experiences until the cows come home.

At least you shouldn't have bought a Tesla. Where I live, Teslas are not even considered trash, at least worst to trash. they are hated that much.
Wow it’s the only ev I would get, the others at least in the US weren’t what I was looking for. And I don’t care what people think of them. They are a highly rated vehicle.

Anyone on 800V arch should probably avoid the SuC network until ti v4 stalls are powered by v4 cabinets.

Plus the experience still isn't as good as just plugging in and going, you have to mess with the app still, dunno if that will ever not be a thing.
For most of us, it’s not about using SC on a regular basis (I don’t want to engage with them more than necessary) but about having options when on road trips and there are large gaps between CSS chargers or a CSS charger is down or full. The SC network is insurance, then.

If the network wasn't available would that change EV buying habits of those wanting it for insurance purposes?

For new to EV buyers I think the answer is yes.
Think for example of the 2025 IONIQ 5, it has the J3400 port as a standard, needs an adapter for the EAs etc.
again, having SuC access for me opens options, and I know from the IONIQ forum that folks now choose different routes on roadtrips because of it.
Options are a good thing, you seem not to like that, why if I may ask?

Just to clarify (for new EV buyers), you are just talking about the US. No adapters required in Europe.

I know people can get confused about this, so I think it’s good to mention most of don’t have to worry about wrong plugs and large areas without any charging stations.

I’d say the US is about 5 years behind us in this regard (for many reasons).

Yes, US and not to forget our friends in Canada.
And yes, we’re in a transition period, and while having to deal with adapters, it’s not as big a deal as some make it sound.

I mean I’m glad I don’t have to deal with adapters, but I guess it just lives in your boot for when you need it. It’s not like your going to forget it.

I thought you and Canada had a fallout?

100% is try to understand why folks would use the network of a company they hate.

To be honest I am kind of surprised all the vandalism hasn't spilled over to the SC stations since they are not manned/watched.

I don't use the network much because I don't really go far enough in a single day for me to. If I were to get another EV I too would want the use of the network for peace of mind, but I also don't have any gripes with the company.

I will try to be as unpolitical as possible in this thread, there is good reason to dislike to CEO of Tesla at this point in time.
But, we wouldn’t be “as electrified” as we are if it weren’t for Tesla, they make great vehicles and they pushed us forward. “Punishing” the company just doesn’t make sense to me…
For as long as I have my Ioniq 5 I will prefer EA over any other network simply because I have another 18 months or so of free charging. I don’t roadtrip much at this point, so waiting 20 vs 20 min to charge is not critical for me.

And the oil that is used to produce gasoline is coming from some pretty shady sources - does that stop anyone from not using it?

Mods: if I have gone too far here I apologize and feel free to delete

Yep. Imagine caring about what others think about your choice in purchasing subjective things like consumer electronics, transportation, etc. :D

Personally I’ve never liked Tesla. Great charging network and handoff for payment. But there cars are just not for me. Never will be. That minimalist design and lack of buttons isn’t for me.
I’ve never considered a US manufacturer for a car. I don’t see that ever changing.

Same, although to be fair, I tried. Because I bought TSLA @30, I’ve driven every car they ever put out, and there’s always something about each of them I didn’t like, starting with the iPad glued to the dash. The Model S did not have that until 2021, but by then I had gotten my first EV, a 2021 Audi E-tron. Love it so much I got a 2024 Q8 E-tron. Now I’m hooked on EV’s, and will never go back. So easy to charge in my garage overnight.

Speaking of US manufacturers, I got a 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV for my son to drive when they were giving them away due to a battery fiasco where they all had to be replaced, and I was so impressed with the value, I got an 2023 Chevy Bolt EV as an extra car as the Bolt was being discontinued. $23k out the door (including tax and license) for a brand new Bolt EV in the highest level trim?? Crazy. And now it’s my favorite city car for a quick errands around town.

Yes I’ve always preferred the styling of German cars. Will go for another or a Kia when it’s time to trade mine in. No time soon though!

Same here. I also really prefer their interiors and the balance between physical controls and screen tech. We bought a second car (the i4) when we moved to the burbs, but have since realized we really only need one car. I'm guessing our next one will be some sort of German PHEV.

Nah….. I’m sticking with my 250 pound, eighth litre Honda motorcycle, designed and built in India. Goes fast enough (65 mph), 400 mile range from the 3 gallon gas tank, cheap and easy to maintain at home….. less carbon footprint than any car, ICE or electric.
I would think if it burns even an ounce of dinosaur bones it automatically makes more pollution than a BEV from cradle to grave. Unless you are trying to say that the tire wear in the road is the issue.
