The car seems a success.
This mourning (also GMT time) also passed by a white one. Not the most distinctive colour but still looks great.

Any benefits to buying a used Y direct through Tesla? They have some decently priced used ones here. Not sure if there is any real advantage going that route opposed to a used car dealer or buying private.... other than Tesla giving the car a real once over before selling.

For me, there was. Both my 2019 TM3 and 2021 TMY came with Acceleration Boost (AB) and FSD. But most importantly, they added an additional 10K miles or 1 year (whichever comes first) AFTER the manufacturer bumper 2 bumper warranty. My TM3 is through it, my TMY has one more year as of the end of this month.

If AB or FSD come with the vehicle it will say it in the listing. There are times they add these, and times when they don’t, so you have to check each listing.

I would expect better pricing at the end of the month/quarter, if you can wait

There are sometimes also disadvantages to it. Tesla has been known to remove functionality from some cars when they get them back second hand. Especially with early cars with supercharging for life, not sure to what extend that would apply to a Y as well. So dyor and check it has all the options you want, don't assume they are there because they should have been.

Just an FYI, I do not think the TMY ever had supercharging for life. As far as I know it was never available on the TM3 or the TMY. They did offer different time periods of free SC, from 1 month to 6 months for new purchases (if I remember correctly).

But yes, Tesla typically strips lifetime SC, FSD and AB from vehicles they buy back. This is why one has to look at what is included in their listings. If it is listed with AB and/or FSD by Tesla, it will be there when you buy it.

There also is the risk, that you buy from a 3rd party, just to find out that the previous owner transferred FSD, and it hasn’t disappeared yet. I am not sure there is any way to know this, it could just disappear, and if the 3rd party didn’t actually list it as an option included in the sale, you would have no recourse. If they do list it, I’m sure it would command a higher listing price.

For the vehicles that Tesla sells, that are still under their factory bumper 2 bumper, they extend it an additional year or 10k miles. But this comes with a higher price tag vs 3rd party sales. Tesla is pretty strict with their lease returns, so much so that I would never lease from them. I have heard that they started listing actual pictures of the used vehicles, but I have not confirmed this. When I bought both of mine, it was a generic picture, I knew it was actually going to have a certain standard because of how strict they are on lease returns.

In the end, you have to really look at it on a vehicle by vehicle basis and see if that vehicle is worth it, direct from Tesla or 3rd party.

The early Performance 3's had free Super Charging for the life of the car. They stopped offering it around the time they made you buy the PUP.

PUP?

EDIT: I’m seeing that there was in fact free supercharging for the 1st owner for a very limited number of Performance and stealth performance models, it was not tied to the VIN like the S/X had that was free SC for the life of the vehicle. So they were non-transferable.

I knew there was free premium connectivity for early TM3’s, but not the 1st owner SC for TM3’s.

PUP = Performance Upgrade Package

supposedly the deal was made back on 2022. Applegreen is going to be able to take advantage of the power upgrades Tesla paid for though. From what I gather no one seems to care that all the Tesla sites are closed since they were not open to non-Tesla EV's.

My understanding (which I admit could be wrong) is Tesla was planning on changing all to V4 (with magic dock and the required payment screens). I'm seeing posts by Anti-Tesla people saying it was a scam that Tesla was dropped.

I have no idea, but NJ has definitely had plenty of shady stuff go on with their awarding of contracts (I used to live in NJ).

Something odd going on. But yeah it pissed me off.

It's the ultimate game, it isn't about the cars. It is all about the sales of energy.
If you have ever been to the states and have been lucky enough to drive sections of the NJ Turnpike what's immediately noticeable is that most of the electric vehicles are Teslas from the state of NJ. So to even the playing field for a fraction of vehicles the Turnpike Authority will inconvenience a majority of Tesla owners, especially since Tesla said they were going sweeten. People keep saying New Jersey has it's head up it's butt and this is further proof why - I just don't understand Murphy.

Big question is the usage charges.

Always for the money, or ultimate beneficiary, and the reasons will become clearer :) sounds like it could be a combination with multiple parties there. In general, monopolies simply aren't good for progress, markets get made by multiple competing parties.

My brother moved to NJ back in the 90's, and I drove up from Virginia to visit him. First time driving the Turnpike, and he was off exit 13, so I figured I was going to be there in no time. I think I still had 130 miles to go! First and last time driving up there.
